I heard that chefs sometimes collect food items with unique shapes for their dishes - like toast with burn marks resembling something or someone, or veggies that resemble a certain shape- to give them an extra touch.
How true is that?

Its not
Nope
Wut
Someone lied to you.
I like unique shapes, but the thing with unique shapes is that you can’t replicate them. A piece of toast with the face of baby Jesus on it can’t be replicated, and if you replicate it it’s not unique anymore. I like to serve unique shapes, not collect them.
Ill sometimes draw a face on a funny shaped potato and itll be the kitchen mascot.
But unless I can bust it out exactly the same for 400 plates a night its of no use.
There are things like Tuille molds that are pretty ubiquitous.
