• Makes sense, expiring contract and these teams all need a backup PG (or at least PG insurance) come playoff time. With the amount of bidders I hope we sell high.

Tbf he would start in most of those places, pretty much all, I hope we do rlly sell high

With the amount of bidders I hope we sell high.

There’s nothing more to say. Shut the thread down.

  • As much as Sexton’s tunnel vision annoys, he is a bucket and is usually efficient. We’d really need a pass first PG and teams just don’t give up quality PG’s. I’d still do a deal if the return is good. That’s the whole point of taking on expiring’s. They are spring boards to improving rosters.

Wonder if Collier might be available from Utah. Honestly like him, albeit he'll hopefully develop more.

Given the explosion of Keyonte in to hands-down best player on the team [whilst Collier was unfortunately out to lose his spot as the PG] and Jazz drafting/leaning toward Walter Clayton - Collier could be a good young, pass first point guard, on a cheap contract who is well within the age of our window.

Edit: Just as a general pick up, not as a trade obviously.

  • I like Colin, but I do think the team would be best served with a backup PG that is more of a distributor and is a better defender. I will never question Colin's defensive effort, but his size limits him. Seems pretty likely we end up dealing him next month.

Issue is that all teams want guards who are a “more of a distributor and is better defender,” so they are pretty hard to find.

Personally, I really want us to open cap-space to sign Ayo Dosunmu to $18-$20 Million contract this summer, so that we can lock down the backup PG position. I feel like it’s vitally important to have a really good backup PG with LaMelo’s injury issues and Ayo has the size, defensive ability, and shooting to play PG or SG with any of our players.

Do u think Ayo will get that much?? I thought he'd be get 10M at most

He might get less, but he’s a 25 year old 6’5” Guard who plays good defense, shoots 40%+ from 3, and is a decent playmaker. I’d be shocked if he got less than $18 Million/year, at minimum. $20 Million is probably a bit of an overpay for a 6th man, but we can afford to do that cause our top 2 Centers make a combined $4.5 Million next year. Personally, I’m pretty sick of continually cycling through mediocre-to-bad combo-guards who can’t hold things together when LaMelo inevitably misses time 🤷‍♂️

For reference, I generally assume the current CBA generally uses the following price brackets:

    • $45-$70 Million/year == Superstar (Luka, Giannis, Jokic, etc)
    • $40-$55 Million/year per year == Young Potential Superstar or Guaranteed Vet Star (ie Cade, LaMelo, Scottie, Banchero, Chet, Siakam, etc)
    • $25-$40 Million/year per year == Above Average Starter (ie Mikal Bridges, OG, MPJ, Arron Gordon, Isaiah Hartenstein, etc)
    • $15-$25 Million/year == Good 6th-4th Man (ie Christian Braun, NAW, Nembhard, Lu Dort, Alex Caruso, Dillon Brooks, etc)
    • <$15 Million/year == rookies, bargains, or fringe rotation players

Well built playoff teams usually have roughly the following breakdown:

    • 2 Star Level Players paid $40 - $70 Million/year
    • 1-2 Above Average Starters paid $25-30 Million/year
    • 1-2 Above Average Fringe Starter paid $15-$25 Million/year
    • Bunch of minimum or rookie contracts

In Particular, over the next few years the Hornets already have 1-2 Potential Star Salaries (LaMelo & Miller), 1-3 solid Fringe Vets (Miles, Grant, & Green), and a bunch of rookie/low-cost contracts (Kon, Moussa, Kalkbrenner, Tidjane, Sion, Liam, Tre, and 2026 First Round Rookie).

That salary breakdown means we have have space to overpay a bit in order to fill out the 4-7th positions on the roster with winning players, if we can salary dump one of Miles or Green by this summer. Personally, I think it’d be worthwhile to overpay a bit to sign-and-trade Miles or Green for Ayo this summer, since I think he fits much better as the future 6th man. Even if we overpay Ayo a bit, we could still have space to sign/trade for an upgrade at 3rd string Center (Da’Ron Sharpe, Brooke Lopez, Wendell Carter Jr, etc).

  • If we can get some good pieces sure

  • Id rather not but John Collins would be nice.

It would likely be for Bogdanovic's expiring and a 2nd.

The Clippers GM and coach Lue were in Cleveland when they drafted Sexton. They are desperate for scoring off their bench.

The Pistons also need scoring off their bench and Bickerstaff also coached Sexton in Cleveland.

Yeah but the Pistons fans dont want to offer anything of value so fuck them lol.

If those teams are asking then we can set our price as high as we want really so if Collin stays id honestly prefer that. Just get rid of Tre if the Pistons are that desperate and give us I've since their fans dont seem to like him.

    This!

    Been wanting Collins forever

  • Sexton for Collins please!

  • Surprised no Houston

  • Really hope we keep him. What’s the best realistic deal we could get from one of those teams?

  • Would give Detroit and Toronto the inside edge since they can throw in a (bad, but still) first-rounder.

  • The Pistons, Timberwolves, Clippers, Raptors & Bucks are all teams monitoring Collin Sexton. per @BrettSiegelNBA

All 5 of these squads have FRPs to move.

The Pistons and Raptors are the only 2 from this list that would consider moving a FRP for Collin Sexton.

Either way, this is great value for Jusuf Nurkíc.

    We’d never get a 1st Round Pick for Collins. It’d be a 1-3 2nd’s and/or a medium-level rotation guy. It’s also a bit tough to match Sexton’s outgoing salary.

  • Sexton for Kawhi straight up or bust. In all seriousness, if we could manage to get zubac for sexton that would be perfect for us.

  • Sexton for Naz Reid, Sexton for RJ Barrett 👀

Rj??💀respectfully he's not a bench player nd why would we want him, I think Jonathan mogbo or cmb would be much more use

  • If it’s anything short of Naji Marshall I don’t want it

  • Sexton for Mike lonely and Willingham. Lonely expiring if silly doesn't work out he us cheap.

Ngl that'd be terrible for us, why would we want dinglinham - tre is much better and Mike would get backup back up mins that'd be a waste apart from lockerroom presence that's it which would don't need rn

    Dillingham is terrible

He us terrible for them. Never kniw here and if mann us good I haven't seen it 3 games in a row. Guy can't stay gealthy or shoot.

  • Any chance we'd get John Collins or Naz Reid?

0 chance of Reid, maybe a tiny chance for Collins but I doubt it. Sexton is just not a super valuable archetype (Is more easily replaceable too)

  • Can’t really think of too many viable trades involving Sexton going to any of those teams, since Sexton’s outgoing money is kinda large. His value is likely 1-3 2nd Round Picks or a mediocre rotation player. Maybe someone moves a protected FRP if we take back a terrible contract, but I’d rather just sign a good free agent this summer.

Possible Options I could see involving these teams:

    Pistons:

    Option 1:

    Pistons Get:

    • Collin Sexton ($18.9M- 1yr)
    • 2-4 2nd Round Pick’s??

    Hornets Get:

    • Jaden Ivey ($10.1M - RFA)
    • Isaac Jones (Minimum Salary Match)

    Likelyhood: < 50%

    • This one seems unlikely to me, but could be possible if the Pistons are confident they don’t want to pay Ivey this off-season. However, I still think they could likely get more for him 🤷‍♂️

    Pros:

    • Ivey has way more upside than Sexton, and could turn into the combo-guard that we’ve been desperately looking for since the Malik Monk days.
    • RFA rights would let us match any salary offer this summer.
    • We need to package 2nd’s for someone at some point, cause we have too many to use

    Cons:

    • Ivey doesn’t exactly fit what we need, since he’s not a great distributor or defender.
    • Ivey could get expensive this summer, though there’s a decent chance he wouldn’t get a huge offer with how similar guards fared last summer.

    Option 2:

    Pistons Get:

    • Collin Sexton ($18.9M- 1yr)

    Hornets Get:

    • Caris LeVert ($14.1M - 2yr)

    Likelihood: >50%

    • This trade seems like the most likely way for the Pistons to get Sexton, since the salary’s and player value are pretty similar. The only other options to match salary are an Ivey deal like Option 1 or a trade for Tobias Harris (Pistons won’t want to trade him). I guess a Duncan Robinson deal works too, but I don’t see how that helps anyone involved.

    Pros:

    • LeVert is 6’6”, so he has the size to play at wing which helps our logjam at guard
    • He’d likely make our team better in the short-term

    Cons:

    • Personally, I don’t like this deal though, cause it’d force us to work as an above the cap team next summer. I’d rather have the cap-space than LeVert.

    Timberwolves:

    Option 3:

    Timberwolves Get:

    • Collin Sexton ($18.9M- 1yr)

    Hornets Get:

    • Mike Conley (10.7M expiring)
    • Rob Dillingham ($6.5M - 3yr)

    Likelihood: 50%

    • This makes some sense for the Timberwolves, if they’ve fully given up on Dillingham. Minnesota likely prefers other guard options though.

    Pros:

    • Conley would be a good mentor and is an expiring contract
    • I guess Dillingham has some kind of upside 🤷‍♂️. If he can fix his shot, then he could provide decent playmaking off the bench.

    Cons:

    • Dillingham’s $7M next year is gonna eat into our possible cap space
    • Dillingham really hasn’t shown he’s an NBA level player and would be a absolutely horrendous defensive fit next to LaMelo, Kon, and Miller

    Clippers:

    Option 4:

    Clippers Get:

    • Collin Sexton ($18.9M - expiring)
    • Mason Plumlee (Minimum)

    Hornets Get:

    • John Collins ($26.5M expiring)
    • CP3 (Minimum)

    Liklihood: >50%

    • Clippers need offense off the bench, and Collins has been pretty bad for them. This’d also save them some cap-space, which they need since they are hard-capped and thus can’t buy any buyout candidates after the deadline.

    Pros:

    • Doesn’t add any money this summer
    • John Collins sort of fills our need as a stretch Center
    • CP3 has shown to be a good mentor/leader for young teams built around promising guards. Would also be “coming home” which could be fun

    Cons:

    • John Collins is one of those players who isn’t as impactful as his archetype would suggest. He shoots well, but only really takes wide open ones from the corner (ie Josh Green). He’s also too slow to guard wings but not strong/big enough to guard Centers and isn’t a great rebounder.
    • CP3 can be divisive in a locker room
    • Adding another PF leaves even less minutes for Tidjane

    Option 5:

    Clippers Get:

    • Collin Sexton ($18.9M)

    Hornets Get:

    • Bogdan Bogdanovic ($16M expiring)
    • Bradley Beal ($5.3M 2yr Player Option)
    • 2031 2nd & 2032 2nd

    Liklihood: <50%

    • It seems possible that the Clippers would like to add a rotation player who fits their needs, in return for two unhealthy players and 2nd Round Picks

    Pros:

    • We get 2nds from a team likely to be terrible in the early 2030’s

    Cons:

    • There’s a small chance Bradley Beal would pick up his team option next year, which would eat into cap space
    • Bogdan and Beal won’t help in any way this season

    Option 6:

    Clippers Get:

    • Miles Bridges ($25M 2yr)
    • Collin Sexton ($18.9 expiring)
    • Mason Plumlee (Minimum)
    • 2026 2nd??

    Hornets Get:

    • Derrick Jones Jr ($10M 2yr)
    • Brooke Lopez ($8.7M 2yr with team option)
    • John Collins ($26.5M expiring)

    Liklihood: <50%

    • I could see the Clippers wanting to get a bit younger and more dynamic by adding Miles + Sexton
    • The Clippers have repeatedly shown to not care at all about players with off-court issues

    Pros:

    • This might actually be my favorite option
    • We’d open more cap space this summer
    • DJJr fits what we need at PF as a switchable defender who can hit some open shots
    • We could either keep Brooke as our 3rd Center next season or decline his contract for $40M+ in cap space
    • John Collins could possibly show enough to be our warrant re-signing as our 3rd Center option next summer
    • Moving Miles could open some minutes/opportunities for Tidjane to end the season

    Cons:

    • Losing Miles might make us slightly worse this season, though that’d likely be offset by the upgrade from Plumlee to Brooke Lopez and/or John Collins
    • Derrick Jones Jr is coming off a long-term injury
    • We might need to give up a 2nd or two to grease the wheels, since DDJr and Lopez are important for the Clippers

    Raptors

    • I honestly don’t like any of the Raptors options, cause they’d all involve us take back big, long-term money

option 6 is a big yikes.

but i like option 1 and option 3

I guess it really depends on how you value Miles Bridges. Personally, I think he’s a terrible fit with our core, so I think we should try to dump him now, while he’s been playing well and his value is somewhat high, cause I and would rather have the ability to sign free agents who fit better this summer. This will be the last summer we can open real cap space, cause Miller is gonna need to be extended in 2027.

Nobody is trading any kind of draft assets for Miles, due to his off-court issues, so you either move him for cap or send out Miles + draft picks to get an equivalent talent who fits. I like Option #6 because it gives us a bit of both options. We add a less-talented but cheaper PF who fits better (ie is a better defender and shooter) next to Melo, Kon, and Miller (Jones Jr) while simultaneously opening an extra $15ish Million in cap space this summer.

The addition of John Collins is basically just to match salary, and I definitely don’t think he’s gonna be worth re-signing. Brooke Lopez is a bit more interesting, because he could be a great mentor for Kalkbrenner. He also a team option, which means we can decide this summer whether we want to keep him as a 3rd Center who’s way better than someone like Plumlee, or waive him for salary savings.

    Ranking Options:

    1. Option 6
    2. Option 1

      ~~ Sizeable Gap ~~

    3. Option 3

    4. Option 2

    5. Option 5

    ~~ Major Gap ~~

    1. Option 3
  • Raptors, Clippers , & Pistons seem very possible given the assets they are probably willing to give up. Not sure about the rest.

  • We have actual coveted assets now everyone

This is what a good front office looks like man we're gonna make it out the mud
