Is there a way we can organize something for them?
They can only accept things given to them they cannot buy their own water, food and medicine. I would like Charlotte to be a good stop for them.
This is a great idea, we should definitely organize something for them. I'm not sure what the best way to help is but happy to pitch in when they reach the city.
I don't know. I'd imagine they might appreciate an escort that covers intersections kind of like we do on our rides. But I don't know what level of interaction is considered interfering.
Does it say when they are coming through? I would bet whatever local Buddhist groups are in Charlotte may have something planned to give to them. Might be worth contacting them.
There is also the Kadampa Center on East blvd. Although that is the Mahayana tradition and would assume the monks walking are of the Theravada Tradition.
As far as I understand, ever since the accident, it seems they have been linking with local law enforcement for protection on the roads and highways. They also plan to rest outside only providing the weather doesn’t pose a health risk. I’m sure you should be able to get in contact with their social media manager as they seem pretty active on IG.
Their journey has been so motivating! I’m excited to hopefully be able to greet the monks and of course my fav, Aloka!! Keep me posted on how I can help!
As always, I am amazed at how assholish people online can be. It would take no effort to stay silent and move on, but that just have to voice their derision, ignorance, and general shit-headedness.
I’ll reach out to a few companies I know about donations for them.
As a person who was on a spiritual journey to explore & see God in different faiths, I initially was in love with how Buddhism connects all of humanity through our shared suffering…
But when I had devout Buddhists tell me my mother’s extremely painful cancer tumors were the result of the actions from her past life, and that she deserved to die like this, I have said FUCK YOU to karmic thinking ever since.
Also, FUCK YOU to all those who judge others in the name of God
Well, this just gave me an idea for a future DnD adventure involving centaurs galloping on treadmills to "row" a boat. Not sure if that is "better" but it is funnier.

Would it be disrespectful to just go walk with them for awhile?

I read a little bit about their walk and the article stated that people could walk with them for a couple of miles
A lot of people have been doing this, and they seem to encourage it. People describe it as very moving and profound to experience.

There's a Monastery in Clover.

They are Theravada!
Well I’ll be. I never knew that was there.
The map of their planned route has an estimate of Jan 10-20th for this area.
On the one hand this is so cool and I would love to gift them supplies for their journey!
On the other hand holy shit if they come here I am really concerned they’re going to get hit by a car
They've already been hit by drivers, sadly.
I saw that, which is why I’m especially concerned for them here
That's how you reach enlightenment.

I follow them on Facebook. They have a map there. Doesn't show dates, but does she the route.
When?
I would guess at least 3 weeks from now, if not longer.

How did they travel the Pacific ocean by foot?
They started in Ft Worth, Texas.
Treadmills while on a ferry.

The idea has been tried. One of Caligula's Nemi ships was powered by Oxen.
