I love that place. I'm torn between wanting to tell everyone about it so they get more business, and keeping it a secret so it doesn't get overrun with cretins, especially crotch goblins.
>“If you weren’t a 25-year-old who had just moved to South End and started working at a bank, it wasn’t for you,” he said. “Their beer was average at best. They just never made anything that made me want to go back and drink it.”
Sycamore was never great beer and 100% just a social hotspot due to location. Typical crowd there couldn’t give two shits what the beer actually tastes like. Sycamore is where corporate drinking outings go to die
“Oh I hated Sycamore before it was socially required to hate sycamore”. Damn some of yall are so predictable and annoying.
It’s okay to think their beer was fine or to enjoy the corporate/social vibe at their brewery. You don’t become one of the most successful breweries in the state because everyone thinks your beer sucks.
i used to work in production brewing and i think i met an employee of sycamore once. they legitimately never even tried to interact with any of the craft breweries here in charlotte. they always seemed to have to “too good to talk to you” vibe
This thread is exactly why nobody likes craft beer snobs. Sycamore is great because of the location. Their beer is perfectly fine, it's even good. Their food is good, their frozen espresso martinis are great. It's a great spot. But there's still plenty of other options so it's easy to not go back. Monday Night, Small Bar, and Canopy are all right there.
Everyone hates a thing when it’s trendy to do so. This is the perfect article, in so much as it allows the craft brew community and consumers to distance themselves from Sycamore.
Lol except the article explicitly shows that Sycamore has been a pariah from the craft beer community the whole time. And that perception of the Sycamore tap room as a place for Southend fintech bros has been palpable on the streets as well.
Fair enough. They were unliked because they chose not to engage with the rest of the brewing community. Still not a great look. Again, kind of the point of the article.
i've had bad beers before and i would still finish them so they didn't get wasted. Sycamore was the only place where i've left a beer behind after one sip
It's true. Lower Left is an infinitely superior brewery.
I work at LL. Thanks for the kind words!
LL is so great. Such a chill atmosphere and the beer is fantastic.
give Iggy an extra treat tonight!

Love Lower Left. Going there feels like what it felt like going to a brewery back in 2012.
And that’s a good thing.
Lower left is great

Pretty much sums that place up.
💯

I heard Sycamore described as the place 24 year olds take their parents who are visiting from out of town and that always felt spot on
I just don’t like that people are using a child’s rape as ammunition for yet another slap fight about craft beer.
Seriously it’s crazy to me
Food Truck Friday and getting the Pig Mac was the only reason to go. Then you suck up getting some shitty beer as a trade off for the outdoor vibes.

All I know is this was nice to see this morning
There’s a reason why it was nicknamed Suckamore

To be fair Monday and canopy are also shit lol, but yes there are plenty of better alternatives nearby

Pariah implies the rest of the craft beer community excluded them.
The article says multiple times that they excluded themselves.
Fair enough. They were unliked because they chose not to engage with the rest of the brewing community. Still not a great look. Again, kind of the point of the article.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a beer as good as mountain candy? I am not an ipa person and loved it. No local ipas I’ve tried are even close.
