The most decorated grave I’ve ever seen had a very similar headstone but in pink / purple, and the Disney font writing. That one was for a 6 year old. Can’t imagine how heartbreaking it must be for parents to lose their child. Wonder if it was illness or an accident.
I see a CBS article saying that she died of the flu, but I don't see her name in the article.
I know anyone can die of flu, but I also can't help wonder if being an undeserved minority meant she received inadequate medical care.
When I was in school a black girl in my school died of "complications due to asthma". She was the light of the school, i remember her smile over 20 years later. I still wonder if the doctors did everything they could to save her. This headstone reminded me of that girl, and if I believed in an afterlife they would both be playing together.
Google keeps pushing that article, but it is from several months before her death so can’t be her.
As you said her name isn’t even in the article so not sure why it keeps getting returned as a result.
I’ve done quite a bit of digging/searching and am honestly a bit surprised there seems to be no digital footprint for such a recent death — especially one with such a wonderful headstone. No obituary, social media posts, crowdfunding to help with expenses, nothing.
I found a post from a Brooklyn based grave marker company.
The date on the flu article doesn't line up but the cemetery is in Brooklyn as well.
It is odd there is no digital footprint. I saw your comment and found zero aside from this link and something from tik tok.
Even treated and adequate medicare care many kids die because of the flu or sth similar. It's rare, but it happens. I used to work in a children's hospital. Some got e.g so high fever, even treated and bam few minutes/ hours later.. deceased. And it was "just" a cold. But then again, when kids receive radiation because of cancer, they can get easily the double amount which an adult could get. An adult would pass away but kids can take it. Idk it's so so sad.
But all of them had to take the same board exams to practice in their specialty and complete residency programs. Grades are only one measure of physician quality.
Some of the best providers I know are working part or full time in FQHC or public health clinics. And there's actually literature that indicates that VIPs can have worse healthcare outcomes due to over treatment (aka physicians giving the patient whatever they want instead of what they need).
Let us not forget the majority of medical studies are done on white men so women and minorities are continuously at a disadvantage because the medicine was literally made for someone else. This is despite science and medicine knowing women and minorities processes medications differently based on genetic backgrounds.
More folks need to understand this!!!
People from African descent will have different medical conditions and needs than say those of Asian descent. Jewish, European,Middle Eastern, even something as simple as having red hair can and does impact diseases and treatment.
This is actually dumb that you said that since basically most of medicine was founded on th torture and human experiments done by the Germans on guess what majority white
And then the Japanese against the Chinese
Well those type of photos cost money so does those decorations and so does a stone like that so let's not just jump to "undeserved minority receiving less adequate medical care." If you're going there let's blame the parents too not just whitey!
Could we please get the spelling right? I know it was misspelled above, but the word is UNDERSERVED, not undeserved. They're two different words with two different meanings.
Also, nobody mentioned white people but you. From the US Dept. of Health and Human Services:
Underserved groups refer to populations that do not have adequate access to medical care. This includes rural, elderly, low-literacy, blue collar, and poor populations. Minorities per se are not included, but often belong to one or more or the included categories. Similarly, people with special needs and homeless people also may belong to one or more of the included categories.
The U.S. Health Services Administration (HRSA) designates medically underserved areas/populations as areas or populations having too few primary care providers, high infant mortality, high poverty, or a high elderly population.
This year’s flu is already a killer too. Just lost an 11 year-old here in Arizona. My friends who have been sick have been really sick, especially their children, even the ones that got flu shots last fall.
So very sorry for your loss , what a beautiful sweet child , what a stunning memorial you have placed for your little princess , love the Christmas touches so heart warming , may she always be at your side , RIP sweet Princess❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I didn't know her but I was really touched by this whole display, how much personality and beauty was in this small life. My heart goes out to the family.
Being underserved does not necessarily mean poor. It could mean that the medical establishment just does not provide the same level of care to POC. Its been documented for example that the maternal death rate for women of color is much higher than others.
Really cool headstone! She looks so happy in that photograph.
So sad when a kid dies so young

Just don't be that guy
So sad, only 5 years old. 😢

So heartbreaking.
This is a sweet headstone 💕
What beautiful Christmas decorations.
What happened

That's an important perspective. Sometimes we look for someone to blame but it's just a rotten roll of the dice.
Not to mention most of the drs you deal with got a C average
Unless you got the big bucks and can go to an expensive care until
It’s not always race some times it’s just poverty based

Nice try though
I love it when someone is confidently wrong
This might actually be a new Reddit record for number of wrong things in one post. Congratulations, I guess?
Is there anything that suggests to you she was underserved besides being black?
Health outcomes are worse in America if you’re Black, regardless of income.
That doesn’t mean black people don’t ever get proper medical care. I think it’s a wild thing to assume about this poor little girl.
Based on that headstone, I doubt being a minority was an issue.

Bahahahahaha.
When you’re posting this comment on a post about the grave of a little girl it’s time to maybe take a breath.
If this is accurate, the flu. Poor Angel and her family.
https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/newyork/news/nyc-flu-child-death-2/
This was months before her death date. Seems to be unrelated. Poor babies, both.

My daughter is turning 1 in February and this rips my heart into pieces.
Every day is precious. May you have many beautiful years together. ❤️
Ugh. Only 5 years old. 💞💔RIP
As a parent I don't even want to think about it
IKR?!💔
Baby girl :( I bet her family has been missing her so much

i love that they brought her christmas presents ❤️
So sad
It’s a beautiful photo if you’re inclined to share on her FG:

Poor baby 😭
This one really breaks my heart. The castle broke me for sure.
Ok I'm in tears
Sleep well little one
That is beyond heartbreaking. You can feel how loved she was. 💔
This is so beautiful. 😢
Wow. I just don't know how someone could cope with that loss. Maybe religion or something helps.
Nothing helps. It’s awful and they don’t have a choice but to live with the awful thing. You cope any way that keeps you alive one more day.
She was born in the same year as my little cousin...I want to cry. RIP Alaia.
She's a month younger than my little sister. I'm gonna hug her a little tighter now.

So 😢 sad, no parent should have to bury their child/children 😭😭😭 know this pain all so well....it's one that never ease...S.I.P princess
Beautiful

This must be someone different, a child of that name died of the flu in February 2018 but this child died in July.
Terribly sad
