Hello- I have rescued cats before, however, not like this.

I want to find cats that are no doubt strays. Or kittens. I know they will be easy to find.

Reason being, I feel horrible for them being out in the cold, they can pass away, and I see a lot of horrible stories online about cruel people and I don’t know what to do other than try to do my best with what I can do.

I don’t make a lot of money. I make $21 an hour, I have five rescue cats I’ve had for years already that are extremely expensive because of the medical bills I’ve had to pay for and dentals, I’m already in debt from them. I also don’t have any space to foster them, because I don’t want to expose my current cats to any strays and I’m in my parents house (I’m 26, I can’t move out unless I buy a house because I have too many animals, renters don’t allow).

Basically, I have no space, no money, and I’ve emailed rescues/ fosters in the area and they can’t help unless I actually find cats first and it would take some time finding a foster most likely, if they even do. So it would be a gamble.

Best case scenario, I assist in rescue of cats I find by taking transporting to fosters and vets.

Any advice?

  • it depends on your area.

Kittens can usually be brought to city shelters at age 6 weeks to 12 weeks.

But unless you fix the mother, and likely return her, TNR, you aren't really addressing the situation and you'll just be doing it again in 3 months and 6 months forever.

Tnr works. We need locals to help us access cats in need. It does save lives, it doesn't require fostering, but they do have to go back out, or else you become a hoarder.

Unfortunately my local shelter kills. I have done TNR, but my thing is, I’d like the cats to be neutered and indoors where it’s not so cold outside. I’ve had cats pass away in the process because of how cold it is, like 5 years ago.

I’ve had 8 cats at my house before, two passed because they were old, one because of cancer. I don’t want any more cats than I already have at my house (I have 5) because I can’t even afford these ones which is why I’m in debt because they need medical attention and I have to give it to them.

I also don’t have any space to keep them and I don’t want another cat into the mix of the ones I have. So I def won’t become a hoarder.

I did TNR in the summer for 75 cats once, and then years later, colony of 15. Whoever we could bring to fosters we did, and I gave them medical treatment for worms and fleas for like a month before doing TNR.

  • It sounds like you want to help kitties specifically find a home. Many shelters and rescues are volunteer run so they may not have been able to read the sub text of what you specifically want to do.

Besides the suggestion of TNR already, you could also ask your local shelters how you can help them advertise to get some of their kitties adopted. As they adopt out - they can accept more kitties. It is not exactly the way you envision it and is much less hands-on. But it does point towards the same goal while not bein the exact method you envisioned.

Very true. I don’t have social media besides this but I can still ask how to advertise. I don’t know anyone who wants a cat right now personally.

They may have ideas of how you can help them get the word out as an organization, such as place fliers at the library or coffee shop. Won't know till you ask them.

  • I came here to make a similar post. The cold, cold winter stresses me out for all of the homeless cats.

Yes same, I want to just take them all inside but I have no means to do it
