He actually has spent the night on our porch the last two nights for the first time. The first picture is him sleeping peacefully just a few feet away from me. It is zoomed in a bit. Apparently these things are better than the nice shelter lol.
He has also started staying around the house longer in the mornings after he eats. Greeting me with meows when I come out. He’s been meowing for awhile, but only when I haven’t fed him yet.
He has really ramped up the rubbing on our house as well. This morning I was sitting in the chair on our porch and the screen door was open and against the chair. I put my hand down and he started rubbing against the door and hitting my hand a bit too.
I am still hand feeding him about half his food. I stopped petting him though because I want him to lead with that. I’ve read that it’s better. I keep the food in one hand and give him a few pieces at a time with the other. He has started trying to grab the food from my hand and even using his paw to pull it closer. After I finish feeding him, I just sit and talk to him. He will sniff all over me to make sure I don’t have more food and then sprawl out and relax a few inches away. I stay until my feet fall asleep lol.
He’s definitely less and less skittish. He used to run all the way down the stairs and under a car with every movement we made. Then it became just running down the stairs. Then running down a few stairs. Now I can move my hands without him moving, but I make a move to get up, he will still go down a few steps.
Huge shout out to the amazing stranger, now friend, who helped us and George out! You are amazing and appreciated beyond words.
For those who don’t know George yet
-he was TNR (trap, neuter, release) on the 24th
-we have been feeding him and giving him water for about two months now.
-we have checked for a chip and posted in every group we can find, at rescues, Nextdoor, neighbors, and even asked around. No one has claimed him.
-he’s estimated to be between 2-4 years old.
-we cannot bring him in right now because we have 3 other cats and two senior chihuahuas. Partially because of money, but mostly because one of our kitties recently recovered from FIP and we have to keep her stress level to a minimum. We are trying to figure out a way to bring him in someway that guarantees there will be no exposure to our cats and be safe for him. Even if we can’t keep him, our goal is at very least socialize him enough that he can be adopted as an indoor cat.
-we have him on a waitlist for a rescue.
-I do believe he was a pet at some point because he’s not feral, just very scared.

Nice to see a good George update. Thank you for helping him. I hope he gets a home inside soon.
I love this and you're very welcome. so happy to see his progress!
I still can’t believe all it took was the pad to get him to spend the night lol. I do wish I could put a GoPro on him to see where he holes up at during the day lol. I’ve tried following him, but he cuts through different backyards. We have kind of an open area with trees, a stream, and very tall grass a few streets away, so I’m guessing he has something there. That’s sort of the direction he goes off in and comes back from.
That’s wonderful. Those pads are great, we have one in each chair on our front porch.
Does Amazon sell this particular self-heating pad? I’ve been wanting to get one for my 9 year old indoor cat who is always cold, but I want to buy one that works well.
Yes and also actual beds with the same heater function. My cat just toasts in hers 24/7
I recently got a heated cat bed from K&H pet products that I would recommend. You can leave them plugged in all the time safely. They make just warmers too, don't have to buy a whole bed. I ordered another bed for my old guy because he's liking the first one so much and I want to put one in another room that he frequents.
We bought the Petace outdoor heated cat blanket, and it’s working well. The preset heat on the one we have is very low so they will actually use it.
I was a bit hesitant that they would work that well, but we also put some out for our kitties. When you feel the pad while they are sleeping on it, it feels like a heating pad on low. One of them was partly on the bed and partly on the pad and you could feel a definite difference.
It makes me so happy we can at least try to keep them warm, and it’s safe. Every now and then one of our boys will go lay on the ground, they get to warm apparently.
What is the brand name?
These are the ones we got. If you search self warming pad or bed, they have quite a few options.
Thank you. This is what I needed.
Do you happen to have a link?
From TNR on the 24th to where you’re at now is amazing. I’ve got 4 ferals left in a colony that was originally 12. I’ve been feeding these cats for over 10 years, they live under my house. I can only pet one of them, and only when I’m actively putting out food! Also, absolutely right decision to let him drive the physical interactions.
Photo 3 His face & eyes are amazing. He has already begun his Glow Up with your love & care.
He really has changed. With him being neutered, his cheeks appear to be going away a bit too. I’m kind of sad about that though lol. I love his chubby cheeks.
he's so handsome ❤️
I just realized that he didn’t leave this morning!! He’s sleeping under a tall bush in our yard!! So now he’s spending the night and day! He’s never stayed at our house beyond 9 am before!!
I picture him thinking “And this is Mine. And THIS is Mine!” as he rubs against your house. 😂
lol I was thinking the same thing!! He actually started headbutting tonight and asking for pets!!
George is such a handsome floof and you’re doing a wonderful thing for him. I hope you find a way to keep him 🩶
What a handsome boy! Thanks for taking the time to help George and giving him the life he deserves.
just want to say I also have an FIP survivor and am sending y'all a lot of good wishes. that journey was horrendous for us but I wouldn't take any of it back
I’m so glad your baby survived. It was definitely rough. She was sick for 6 months before we got a diagnosis. The vet suspected it after a few months, but we had to rule other stuff out. She was very unusual that she survived with it as long as she did before treatment. Lots of syringe feeding and trying to keep her fever down. So thankful for GS meds.
Thank you for helping George. In this demanding times I'm always happy there are still a few good people out there and trying their best .So thank you again. ❤️
What a handsome one he is, thank you for the love and support you are giving him🩵
Aw his big eyes! My raccoons and possums would be having a brawl over a heating pad. Lol
His little face says it all , thank you anonymous angel for helping George so much and to you u/loveofGod12345 for this lovely update 💖
I love his smushy face so much! We just realized he’s actually still in our yard. He’s sleeping under a tall bush! He’s never stayed past 9 am before.
Oh love him does he move into the little shelter at night?
He’s never done more than go in to get treats I put there lol. Other than the past two nights where he slept on the pad on our porch, I have no clue where he goes. He definitely leaves because I see him head off either in person or on camera. The wind is picking up now, so I moved the shelter to the bottom of the stairs hoping he’d maybe use it. He again grabbed the treats and then went on the porch lol. I have a chair on the porch where I smoke (trying so hard to quit), but maybe I can move that somewhere else and see if I can get him to use the shelter on the porch. There’s not really room for both.
Try the move with some catnip and hopefully he'll realise it's warmer inside with a bit of luck.
I’ve tried catnip before. He went in to lick it up and left lol. I’m going to try again though. He is now head butting my daughter and husband!! He hasn’t done so with me yet lol. I spend hours a day with him. Just sitting and talking and hand feeding him and they get the first head butts lol. Little stinker.
Typical kitty lol he's getting there I think, fingers crossed :) x
He’s head butting me now and demanding pets!! He’s even purring!! Idk what happened. It’s like a flip switched.
Finally decided your his humans by the looks .. wooohooo :)
George is so cute🩶thank you for helping him stay fed and loved and warm! Are you located in California? No snow?
Surprisingly no. This winter has been very odd. Normally we have highs in the 30s in December, but we’ve been having highs mostly in the 50s. The next two weeks are going to be in the 60s even. We’ve only had about 5 days below 40s. It’s really bizarre. Thankful for the warmer temps for George’s sake, but we really need snow.
Where are you located? WhT state? I’m in Wisconsin. I could help George maybe. If he’s close enough.
CDS George Edition
He is precious and I ❤️ him.
So happy someone was able to help!!! George seems super sweet
Those pads are very interesting. What are they actually called and where can I get some?
These are the ones we got. If you search self warming bed or pad, they have quite a few options.
Thank you!
I love George!
Thank you, you're doing wonderful work with him.
Self warming pads?
We got these. It’s some kind of material that reflects heat back onto whatever is on it. You can really feel the difference between them and regular fabric. Just standing on it for a few seconds makes it feel like a low heat heating pad.
I look forward to these George updates and I’m rooting for both of you 💕💕💕
Thank you!!
He has a perfect little heart shaped nose
Wonderful.
I love that big guy!
I love you, George! Good job picking some wonderful humans to help you stay warm and fed and loved! I hope you can find your forever home soon m. ❤️
He is so ruggedly handsome
