Hello! I live in Ohio and the temperatures have gotten so cold so I helped a neighbor who was taking care of a stray cat on her porch. The cat is about a 3 year old male. Took him to the local animal shelter just to get fixed, tested, and flea and tick. Got a clean bill of health. It’s been about 3 days now of being inside and he will go through a good period of time of just meowing constantly. How do I help? He’s been eating for the most part but won’t go in the litter box but has peed on the floor. Should I try feliway and calming treats? He has a little hideaway under neath the couch which is about 8 inches tall. I put a blanket around it to make it feel more secure and have been feeding him under there.
My first was a rescue who was a part of a colony for a couple years before coming inside. When he went from several cats to only one at my house he did the same thing it took three or four sleepless nights before he calmed down. Love, treats, understanding, patience. If he’s not tearing down the blinds to get back out, it will pass soon. I did end up getting him a playmate a few months later because he did continue to sing the song of his people occasionally. That helped him too. Good luck. Thank you for saving this bb.
He needs to he kept in one small room alone. Give him lots of space and let him come to you when he is ready. Give him a place to hide and a place to climb. Keep his litter box close to where he is hiding so he doesnt have to travel far. It takes cats a couple months to fully settle in, he is beyond terrified right now. You can try feliway and calming treats, but he really needs space right now
