What was the name of So Taguchi’s translator? Didn’t they have just his first name on his jersey? I always thought that was funny. Or am I remembering incorrectly?
I don’t recall Taguchi having a translator. Are you thinking of Seung-Hwan Oh’s translator, Eugene Koo? I think they just called him Eugene so maybe that’s what you’re thinking of.
I remember a story during a game where one of the radio guys said he asked a player how much their English had improved and the player responded "un poco" which is Spanish for a little bit. If that wasn't Taguchi, I wonder who it was. I thought the player was Japanese.

YES! Eugene! That’s definitely who I was thinking of, not sure why I thought it was So’s guy. Thanks!!
If I recall correctly So Taguchi was fairly proficient in English as he learned it from his wife who was fluent in English.

Taguchi is the only Japanese player the Cardinals have ever had, unfortunately. So if he was indeed Japanese, then it was Taguchi.
That guy was so Taguchi
I always felt that he was only somewhat Taguchi. But I've been wrong before.
Eugene Koo was more popular than Oh.
Didn’t TLR keep at bats away from ST keeping him from a season at bat bonus. Or the other way??
