Hey y'all! Excited to attend one of his kill your lawn shows next month. I've been yellin about lawns and how their rooted in classism and ugly as fuck for a hot minute. So when I stumbled across cpbbd I was pretty stoked that someone with a big reach was teaching these things and bringing up native plants ect. For anyone who's attended his shows, did he stick around and talk with folks after or just kinda bounce? I'm assuming it's a q & a but damn I hate being put on the spot. I also wanna talk to him about trains, a zine I'm making(related to getting rid of lawns and wildscaping) and my enthusiasm for uh good and nessecary trouble(guerrilla gardening). However I understand showin up, doin what you do, and then like not wanting to be bothered after. Sure I'll probably get lost in the crowd of other folks wanting to ask him shit, feel like I'm taking up too much space and just gettin a shirt and leavin.
Joey is my dog. Really made me think.
He's probably busier and getting a lot more messages nowadays but he responded to me on Instagram a few times, chatted for a bit about some conservation work I was doing at the time.
Hell yeah that's cool. Maybe in person he'd be more down to talk since it's like face to face? He definitely seems to be the kinda folk that would rather talk in person rather than on a computer but hey, I don't know the guy. When I played shows (was in a punk band) I always enjoyed talking to people who'd approach me after but I've also known people who haaaaated doin' that and was ready to bounce right after. This was also on a wayyyyy smaller fan base lmao. Excited to go regardless.
On one of his recent podcasts about his 'Kill Your Lawn' tour in the Midwest, he mentions how he does stick around for Q&As.
I saw him in June at a show and he stayed til the very end. He sold merch and another person there was selling native plants.
I went to his show in Milwaukee this fall and he did extend things a bit, plenty of Q&A, etc. He then headed for the merch table with Al. I don't know how long that went or if he hung around afterwards, but if you asked for a few minutes later on in the evening I bet he'd give it to you.
It was a good presentation and a nice way to support him, so definitely worth going.
Ooh man I wish I knew about this. I dont follow him close enough to knoe he did this. However I've seen plenty of his videos and would have loved to have went.
