I was diagnosed with sleep apnea that is on the line between mild and moderate. I started using my machine a couple days ago and have a nasal pillow. There is already a spot on my nose that it starting to be rubbed raw. Any advice on preventing the red spots in your cheeks and nose pain? So far it has made my sleep worse because of the distraction of the hose and nasal pillow.

  • It only needs to be tight enough that it's not leaking air. If mine feels snug before sleep, it hurts after a while. It should feel almost (but not quite) like it's too loose. Nasal pillows floof up to fill the space, they don't need much in the way of a tight headgear.

Other than that, your nose will get used to it after a while. You can put a little bit of lanolin (the breastfeeding kind, available in the baby aisle of any store) on the irritated area.

Thanks. I guess I assumed it had to be somewhat tight. I will loosen it a little tonight and see if that helps.

  • Get a nasal mask like the n20, they don't touch your nose.

  • Try to loose it up a little. Many people over tighten it.

  • I had this at first and it resolved in a a few weeks

  • For your cheeks, get soft fleece strap-covers here.

  • Mine did the same my first few nights. It doesn’t have to be super tight. I loosened it and that helped tremendously.

  • Try using organic nipple cream but as others said make sure is not over tightened

  • I've loosened mine all the way and it's still making my nose sore :( I can't help it if I have a big head...

  • I use lanolin - also known somewhat embarrassingly as nipple cream - on my nose every night with P10 nasal pillow. Also, as others have mentioned, you have it too tight. Also, it took me a year to get comfortable and to where I actually like or look forward to going to sleep with the mask so have a LOT of patience! Good luck! Also, this is sub is GREAT for help!
