asking males: i got low testosterone consistently below 200, but my endo wants sleep and weight fixed first, before trt. did your testosterone improve with CPAP?

  • Welcome to r/CPAP!

Please refer to the wiki and sidebar for resources. For submissions regarding CPAP settings, it is advisable to utilize applications such as OSCAR or SleepHQ to extract and share data from compatible CPAP machines.

  • The old morning wood came back so maybe 😂😂

Yeah that was a surprise the doctor didn’t mention.

  • Am female/AFAB, in perimenopause, and CPAP does seem to have helped with hormone regulation (have not had recent blood work for those specifically but cycle better regulated) and, of course my overall metabolic health. Didn't surprise my endo at all (she's the one who ordered the sleep study). Poor sleep ruins EVERYTHING.

  • Maybe, because it actually lets me breathe and exercise better, by allowing my body to have good REM and deep sleep.

  • Fire your endo.

I had the same pair of problems, and the same reaction from the endo I visited (keep losing weight, get your sleep apnea treated, no testosterone for you). HOWEVER it took me almost a year to get my CPAP - home tests failed, sleep lab was slow as fuck, and general insurance bullshit. I found another provider who was willing to prescribe my TRT in the meantime, and I'm so glad I did.

Getting my T levels fixed gave me back control of my life. I started seeing gym results for the first time in my adult life, and I was able to taper off my antidepressant.

Maybe I won't need to be on TRT forever, now that I'm not obese and my sleep apnea is under control... but I definitely wouldn't change anything about the path I took to get here. 10/10 would recommend TRT.

yep, endo wants easy money 💰

  • i have never measured my test so its probably anecdotal, but my libido and recovery from training improved. Interruped REM sleep is known(thought) to tank testosterone and other hormones.

  • Not directly, but better sleep can help you lose weight which can in turn help increase your testosterone. Focus on "can", what it will hopefully do is give you better rest so that you can be more active or resort less to food to maintain energy levels.

Yes directly… your body makes your testosterone while you sleep

  • Soooo I was wondering about this. Only been using it for 8 days, but the last few days, I’ve noticed an increase in being more interested in certain things, if you know what I mean.

  • I’d recommend finding a new doctor. I was in a similar boat with levels at 150 ng/dL. I’ve been on a huge health journey since April, started Zepbound (dropped from 317 to 254 lbs), started TRT in July, and got on a CPAP in September.

My specialist offered to trial coming off TRT to test my natural levels when I get down closer to 200lbs, but he admitted the natural bounce-back would probably be negligible (<100 points). At 47, I’m done having kids, and I feel too good right now to mess with it. I have no intention of stopping the injections.

  • Better sleep > improved energy > more drive to exercise. Exercise raises T. Also, better sleep raises GH.

Exactly is really not rocket science lol

    but did you measure?

My urologist had ordered a blood panel and his first question was do you have sleep issues? My testosterone levels were incredibly low. I wasn’t on cpap yet but I already was diagnosed with OSA. Haven’t had another test but rest assured wife is happier.

  • Yes poor sleep decreases testosterone, so naturally sleeping better will eventually level your hormones out

  • With weight gain it tanked.
