I’m as frustrated with Jed and the Ricketts as the next guy, but this isn’t “bargain bin” shopping. This is a guy to stash in Iowa as insurance for if Amaya gets hurt again (like what Reese McGuire was last year). A necessity for any team to have but not something that any team would spend significant money on. It’s a minor league deal
No one's upset at this move. People who are upset don't like that this team is signing Tyler Austin out of Japan and Christian Bethancourt as a 3rd catcher when other contenders are making impactful moves with their MLB rosters.
Baseball franchises are built by dozens of little unsexy moves like this. It may not move the needle but it’s something that is normal baseball operations.
Some of you are just flat out embarrassing and acting like today is the end of roster construction. Every single year you act like this. I was pissed about last year, but the rosters aren’t set. Not every deal is a blockbuster and they don’t sign guys in order of magnitude. Give it a rest.
Agreed. I debated whether or not to post the news knowing what I was in for in the comments section lol. It’s a depth signing that has zero impact or foreshadowing for their plans the rest of the offseason
Sure, they need a third catcher during spring training if nothing else. And I don't think any of the catchers at Knoxville last year distinguished themselves enough to be promoted to Iowa to start 2026.
You may be waiting a while. Trade Happ and his 23 million dollars a year, put Cassie out in left, then sign Tucker. Sounds like you can get Tucker for under $225k. Problem solved!
Basically our 3rd string catcher to replace McGuire.
He was pretty good in the 20 some games he played in 2024. Great arm if I recall.
2nd best catcher arm in baseball with top-15 pop time, you recall correctly.
I missed the news they released Mr. Indecent.
Yeah they just non-tendered him at the end of the year
What if the car jackings were the friends we made along the way?

The GOAT is back 🔥
I remember the Bethancourt game. Do you?

Architect of the greatest comeback I’ve ever seen in that pirates game two years ago. Happy to bring this dude back!
Pour one out (or jerk one later) for Reese

Wow. Watch out brewcrew, Jed is on 🔥
Catching depth. Sounds good to me.

Every team does minor league signings lol. It’s still December! Something always works out.
It’s just the same old, same old. If it’s true that we can get Tucker for 200 million dollars for 5 years, then I would do that.
Are you related to the Rickett’s family?
I was very critical of the cubs for not spending more money on the bullpen last offseason and I will be this year too if they don’t spend.
That doesn’t mean I plan on acting like an idiot in the meantime.
I can't wait until we trade our top prospect for a rental we won't re-sign again!
Cam Smith was our 7th best prospect by fangraphs
It is TOTALLY embarrassing. Every fucking year.
He deserves the money just for his role in that comeback against the Pirates
Welcome back, King 🤴

We love our third string catchers
BethanGOAT is back! I'm so happy
I’m kinda surprised he didn’t play in the majors at all last year after the torrid little run he had with us in 2024. Good veteran depth.
Meh, I'm waiting for some impactful moves to happen.

Somehow Bethancourt has returned.
E-I-E-I-O wah.
If in majors man it’s sad the White Sox are outspending the cubs
BLOCKBUSTER
Nobody likes depth more than Jed Hoyer.
Jed did just enough to keep his job lol
The cubs are the biggest losers off the offseason
The cardinals are going into full rebuild mode also the Mets exist too.
Jed's league
LET'S GOOOOOO WORLD SERIES 2026 HERE WE COME BOYZ!!!
