A decade after their magical run, players such as Albert Almora Jr, Trevor Cahill, Chris Coghlan, Carl Edwards Jr, Dexter Fowler, Justin Grimm, Jason Hammel, Kyle Hendricks, Jason Heyward, John Lackey, Jon Lester, Miguel Montero, Mike Montgomery, Anthony Rizzo, Pedro Strop, Matt Szczur, Travis Wood, and Ben Zobrist will be in attendance for the team’s annual off-season convention.

  • hyped for trevor cahill

  • On that list who would be the most entertaining to have a beer with? Most will probably pick Rizzo but imagine the shenanigans you would get up to if it was Lackey or Wood?

Strop seems like the life of the party kind of guy

Wood is nice as hell. If you didn’t know he played baseball you’d think he was like a truck driver or something.

  • No Ross, I notice.

  • I kinda hate it. Maybe make the convention about the current team that just won a playoff series for the first time since 2017? And newly signed players?! Oh, I guess we didn't sign anyone and let Tucker walk.

I’m all for celebrating that season whenever and wherever possible.

Maybe an unpopular take but the Cubs could never win again in my lifetime and I’ll be fine. It was just a perfect confluence of events for me. Perfect age, perfect place, perfect team, perfect season, perfect World Series; the pinnacle of sports fandom that will never be duplicated for me. I can die happy.

They do individual tributes to players on the core all the time. I don’t think it overshadows too much. If anything, it’d be a good way to show the core how much Chicago loves their winners

I do understand your frustration though. I just take it less narratively. Hopefully this core gets celebrated in a decade too

  • My 7 year old has gotten really into the Cubs this year and has watched every pitch of the 2016 WS multiple times. I’ve never been to a convention before. Is there a schedule of events for the weekend? Any advice in general?

  • Cheaper to pay for hotel rooms and feed the 2016 players than sign impact talent for 2026 and showcase them at the convention.

Not everything needs to be complained about.

True, but F this front office

It's the 10-year anniversary of the first World Series win in over 100 years. First off, of course it's cheaper to have a bunch of people hang out for the weekend, & it's 1000% easier than getting someone to commit years of their life to you...but it's also treated completely differently for accounting purposes, & I can all but guarantee that the city & other organizations will cover significant portions of the costs due to the tourism impact.

But second, it would be extremely disappointing to the fanbase to not have them there. I'm reading it & am annoyed that KB isn't in the list of attendees... You're reading it & are annoyed that something that's so special to basically all of us is being commemorated in a pretty cool way??

    GTFO with this crap.

Wholeheartedly agree. This is a great thing for the fans. We deserve this. I watched the final out with my grandpa and my father, nearly 130 yrs of fandom between the two. We all cried as we watched. It has nothing to do with the current state of the team or front office. Everyone knows that everyone is more than frustrated with how things are going. Let’s have some fun and celebrate.

This is the most ridiculous bad-faith complaint. Even if the Cubs signed every single free agent to the largest contracts possible, the 10th anniversary of the World Series team would still have been invited and showcased.

God damn this sub can be so insufferable
