• Wait what? Why isn't this guy going to the draft? Is it that he thinks he can make more money from NIL?

Almost 3 million from Georgia Tech is the rumor

We've gone from an era where Derrick Henry patiently waited on the bench to this.

UGA 2012-2021's uninterrupted string is crazy

    Todd Gurley -> Nick Chubb/Sony Michel -> DeAndre Swift/Elijah Holyfield -> Zamir White/James Cook

Everyone other than Gurley started out 3rd or 4th string and waited until draft, matriculation, or injury got them bumped up the chart

That’s 100% is never happening again lol. Just madness and insane recruiting.

It's the end of a G5 team ever having a college football hall of famer ever again. I know different sport, but can you imagine the offers Steph Curry would have gotten after his freshman year from Duke/Kentucky/Kansas etc?

Shiiddd didn't even think of that!!!

If you wanna get a bit more technical, Kenny McIntosh was also behind White and Cook and was an absolute stud in 2022.

I am sure Henry was in no way financially compensated for his time on the bench. Just sat their like a good little soldier.

No way Alabama Jones would cheat!

"I don't think that the SEC ever paid a player, ever."

Still laughing at Alabama Jones being so serious about the topic

Anyone remember the message that was introducing the Alabama recruiting and it was just pictures of them with new chargers

The bagmen definitely made Derrick Henry’s wait worth it for him

    For a running back?

Hey I didn't make the rumors. I just spread them.

    This is the way

Dont know how they’ll get ROI on that.

Crazy money. Makes our deal for Baugh look like a steal

that's insanely stupid being their whole OL just got raided and they lost their OL coach.

Brent Key is an OL coach by trade. Transition is a challenge for sure but OL is not going to wither away. And we want to run the ball all year

Have you seen Haynes? All he needs is to get that 1/10 chance to get to the secondary and he's gone. Afterburners on the guy. He's going to light UGA up

I mean considering yall dont have a QB or WRs right now we may just play 2 CBs and 9 LBs and DL

Whole OL? We lost our two centers, neither of whom was that great last year.

One of those centers was our starting LG

Right. And he was fine but not exactly a superstar. He's replaceable

haha like what? We should have good OL next season. We may not throw the ball though since we have no WRs!!

I was a little curious why we were signing 5 WRs in this recruiting class, but I’m happy we did.

Lost your starting center and back up center, Lost your back up guards. Lose your starting guards to the draft. You have good tackles though but you're pretty depleted inside which is where you'd want to be strong at for a good running game.

But that's only rumor because he "can't" know that before entering the portal right??

That’s absurd that’s what Treveyon Henderson is making in the league right now. Who is the donor there able to afford that?

Makes you wonder if the NFL will adjust their rookie wage scale in response to talent staying in college longer for bigger paydays. Crazy world.

Doubt it. Most RBs aren’t worth the second contract anyways. They’ll still get their prime for cheap. The new age of RBs is getting your first contract in college, and then your pro deal in the nfl. Only the truly elite will ever get a big second contract.

They for sure won't. College NIL collectives paying out the ass doesn't change that there is an age out date on every college athlete not named Diego.

We need another RB with the name Haynes since ours is leaving

Yeah RBs are worth more in college vs NFL, save for the guys getting the guaranteed 1st round money (Saquons or Bijans or Jeanties etc)

Otherwise, you won’t make as much in the NFL as you can get in one year in college unless you get a 2nd contract

From what I hear, Bo Jackson is asking Ohio State for more money than Treveyon Henderson is making with the Patriots, which is just absurd and frankly delusional if true.

It would be but also Cardale, who actually works in getting OSU players NIL money these days, said the amount being reported is bullshit to drive interest to a certain pod and is generating bad blood towards Bo

Yeah, Cardale's comments made it sound like it's nothing more than just normal NIL discussions for a player who popped off as a freshman

I was surprised to see that post yesterday and found out that Birm and Austin are still podcasting about Ohio State. I thought they'd be in prison by now or at least in deep enough shit to lose their inside connections to Ohio State

Henderson’s base salary is only $840k. His first year comp is mostly signing bonus.

Next year he’ll be north of $2MM though.

I thought the point was to get to the 2nd contract ASAP, esp for RBs.

Yeah a guys gonna have to make a calculation

The Present Value of a single year multi-million NIL deal to play fewer games vs smaller tacklers vs the same amount of money spread over 4 years and let’s say a 33% chance of earning a 3-year non-guaranteed deal starting in Year 5 at say $9 mill a year or whatever

It’s at least close enough that guys are going to opt for the bigger guarantee up front vs the chance to start earning much more in the future

Thats my thought. NIL > Rookie contract.

What a weird time this is for a football fan.

Makes me wonder if we eventually get to the point where a generational talent who could be a top 5 pick as a junior ends up staying through his senior year because some booster shoots money at him.

makes sense for RBs specifically since the NFL doesn't value them as much - I think we're heading towards a system where certain positions are going to stick around the college ranks a lot longer than before.

I wonder if the market eventually corrects then since the big schools will be more likely to have a "really good, but not great" guy parked for years taking up a lot of the budget and the incoming, high-talent frosh get pushed to smaller teams with cap space

A top 5 pick will earn more in the NFL

Single year NIL may be more than the entirety of the rookie contract for non 1st round guys though

This has happened many times? Michigan brought back lots of super seniors for their Natty. You guys did the same, as did Ole Miss last year.

Probably can make more in NIL in college than the NFL. And we're probably stretched too thin on budget.

He’s looking for some crazy money and if that doesn’t hit he’ll go to the draft I guess. Entering the portal means he found someone to pay him. I’ve seen posts saying it’s Georgia Tech and I’ve seen some pretty high dollar numbers associated

A lot of reporting that he just likes college

I think he’s in the same position Blake Corum was, where he’s a Heisman-caliber RB coming off an injury, so his draft stock has taken a major hit but a college team is still willing to give him a huge bag. If he puts together a good season, delaying his NFL entry by a year won’t be as big a deal, and if he has a bad year or gets hurt again, he still has the major college payday to fall back on rather than just one year of a low-round rookie deal.

  • I thought he was NFL bound ngl. This kind of sucks, but with Marshall coming back and Hiter coming in it doesn’t hurt as bad. Probably wants insane money.

can he be in Atlanta by 730?

If the rumors are true, he’s already here.

I don’t know how I feel about is giving him $3M though. That’s a fucking bag for a RB

Maybe it's the money we would've given Canion

I mean he is from Buford so makes sense he would be here lol

    He’s really fucking good fwiw

I grew up a Michigan fan, so I'm sad and thrilled lol. superb vision, strength and speed

I’m a bit confused why after so many portal defections that may have been avoided with this $3M you guys decided to just spend it all on one guy and a RB at that.

Rumor is that money wasn't the reason for the defections.

Canion was good, but I’d be willing to trade him for Haynes. We need a consistent running back. Last year Jamal Haynes was washed and couldn’t run for anything, and that put a lot of stress on Hosley. Hosley is a solid backup, but he’s not an RB1 right now. Having a reliable back is more important than one wide receiver who’s still a little unproven. He didn’t go crazy last year, but it’s still a tough loss. I agree the price is a little high, but Haynes is proven.

    Hitle…??? Oh nvm

    Hit.... no L

I've been trying to make "Noel" his nickname for a while now.

"Hail Hiter" was definitely meant to be.

    yeah let's not do that

It's a good thing he went to Michigan and not Michigan State, otherwise they'd definitely have an unfortunate scoreboard graphic ready immediately.

I wish him the best but if that $3 million offer is true we're better off saving and spending that money elsewhere

That’s 6 really good OLs. I’ll take them and Tatum over Haynes for 3 million

Makes sense to stay in college with NIL the way that NFL has de-emphasized RB’s.

Running backs have a shelf life and having more years of service in the NFL comes with increased benefits. I don't know if it's great long term strategy to delay an NFL career

Even the vet minimum is higher than all but the absolute tippy tippy tippy top of NIL deals(and even those we're not certain are as high as reported, it's hard to know for sure in this current world), let alone your first non-rookie deal, let alone your rookie deal if you're a decent pick(not sure what he's graded at right now). All signs point to getting those years of service in ASAP to get to at least that vet minimum level ASAP, and that's before we discuss the other benefits of NFL service if you can get there(pension, insurance for your entire family if you have one, etc).

  • Best of luck to him. If it’s GT like rumored, they’re getting one of the best RBs in the country.

Hard to keep our entire RB room together in the NIL era.

They just had Haynes King and Jamal Haynes, GT is making a dynasty.

They both graduated and we're low on Haynes stock

GET YOUR HAYNES, GET YOUR HAYNES HERE

"Wait 'til we get our Haynes on you" -Georgia Tech, probably

More of a Fruit of the Loom guy but to each his own

If you want to pamper your privates, check out Tommy John. If those are too expensive (which they're), buy ones that are made from a fabric called "modal". Your balls can thank me later.

Michael Jordan pops out of nowhere.

Can you blame him? Those shirts don’t get bacon neck.

We still have an Evan Haynes (freshman WR that transferred from UNC after spring ball last year), so this would bring us back up to our required minimum.

Frantically starts looking up QBs in the portal named Haynes

New Mexico’s QB was an absolute warrior this season and his name is Layne is that close enough

That describes Haynes King pretty well so I’m down

It’s very important GT’s key offensive players are named Haynes. Keeps for consistency when we keep yelling at the TV why the defense can’t stop Haynes.

one year too late to have haynes3

I just looked around and saw $2.5-3+ mil offer from GT?

Hell, I'd stay in college as long as possible if I were a top tier RB...

    That can’t be right.

Yea. I would be shocked at GT paying 3M. Their running back room is probably the deepest part of the team.

GT has money to spend and not enough people good enough left in the portal to spend it on. If say Cam Coleman is a no and we got outbid for Canion, I’m fine putting 2m on Haynes and trying a Detroit style split

Canion already announced he's going to UGA

I think Baugh got $1 mil at UF, so 3x that for Haynes would be nuts. He’s a good player and GT relies on the run heavily, but that’s a lot of scratch at that position for anyone who isn’t absolutely elite.

He is very much elite if he's healthy

    *weeps a single tear

Is he 3x as good as Baugh? I'd argue no, but maybe some GT tech billionaire is feeling generous.

Probably not but I was responding to you saying "for anyone who isn't absolutely elite"

But that’s not how paying for elite stuff works.

No matter if it’s merchandise, workers, athletes, there is a huge premium for getting the person/thing that is a little bit better than the other elite thing.

You don’t think it’s 2x or 3x better, you just have to pay the premium for getting something 10% better at the very top end.

(With all that said, I think the 3M number is likely incorrect).

I said something in a thread literally a couple days ago that we are going to start seeing some of the high academia schools start to outperform historical norms (on the field and in recruiting) because of their disproportionate percentage of wealthy alumni paired with legally being able to compensate players and few agreed with me.

Yet here we are with another example that could fall in this category.

Oh, I have no idea if that's true at all. But when you already have Mark Cuban funding Indiana's NIL on a whim and Texas Tech spending like crazy to be the next Indiana, I don't see any reason in the current climate that anyone sufficiently rich couldn't flip a roster and a program similarly.

Unfortunately most of our ultra-wealthy alumni are of the “don’t give a shit about sports” variety.

Brugler and Daniel Jerimiah have both said that NIL is more of a factor for RB than most other positions. Colleges will pay 7 figures for good college RBs but the NFL still doesn’t typically draft more than 3 or 4 in the first 50 or so picks.

RJ Harvey was 60th pick and got 4/$7.35mil. Total cash of $2.8mil year 1. $4.7mil guaranteed.

Kaleb Johnson was 83rd and got 4/$6.37mil with $2.12mil year 1. $1.274mil guaranteed

That would make some sense. RBs are bigger difference makers in college than they are in the NFL.

Omarion Hampton got $18M/4 with $9M guaranteed at pick 22.

The scale is higher this year and you have to imagine Haynes will go before 60. He's probably RB2 this draft.

I really don’t think Haynes is guaranteed top 60. It’s pretty difficult to get that type of grade and the concerns about his injury probably dropped him. The college advisory committee gives players R1, R2, or go back to school grades. My guess is he got a go back to school grade.

Brugler is among the best in the draft business and didn’t have him among the top 50. Since 2020 there’s been 21 RBs drafted in the first 2 rounds. Thats less than 4 a year.

2022-2024 saw only 7, and that includes Bijan and Gibbs. Last year was obviously a strong RB class and saw 5 guys.

No way! Baugh got 1 mil at Florida

That wouldn't make sense since we are decently stocked at RB while only having 1-2 returning WRs.

That's A LOT of money for a RB.

    Don’t believe everything you read

Rumor is they’re giving him $3M which is bonkers

GT needs good news right now. Been a rough go for them lately.

  • I knew he was gone, just figured it would be to the draft. There's no way he would've been worse than RB3 in this draft cycle though right?

    Feels a little weird

Georgia tech is offering him like $3M

Aren't they losing Haynes King and most of their veteran offensive line? What's he running behind?

Not sure but 3 mil has to help

Yeah I mean I get it. 3 million solves everything.

But he was not a high draft pick before coming to Michigan because Alabama couldn't run the ball. And when he goes to Georgia Tech (who just lost their OC, Oline and quarterback) he may see a significant drop in production that affects his draft grade.

He'd have to be in the top 31 to make more than $3 million next season.

And while there is more total money in the rest of the draft it's not all guaranteed.

If teams were worried about sample size and injuries he might be getting projections in the 3rd round+

Either that or his agent who is getting a much bigger portion of college deals than agents get in the nfl is feeding him bad information so that he himself can make more money 🤷‍♂️

He must not be getting the grade he wants in the nfl draft

Getting some good transfers in supposedly

Whole bunch of people we recruited last year and some good portal grabs.

  • This is clearly a “someone make me an offer I can’t refuse or I’m going pro” move

  • Best of luck to him sounds like he’s going to Georgia Tech.

He’s one of the best running backs in the country

he will feast at GT too lol. Now praying our other back stays, Hosley

Hosley + Haynes would certainly revive my faith in next season

  • J Haynes running back? Gimme

  • I am ready to be hurt again

    He's Georgia Tech bound bud

But we haven’t even gotten him a raise yet!!

Can you guys at least kick him an offer to see if he’ll come back to Michigan?

  • Dang. We'll be okay but I thought this was the perfect system for him.

When an elite institute like GT comes calling, schools like Michigan just don't stand a chance

Please ignore the giant pile of money in the corner

Is he headed to GT? That's awesome. He's so good. I hope the injury won't slow him down at all because he was able to kick in to a higher gear than I've seen a RB like him reach in a long time. He can get the tough yards and hit home runs.

Rumor is we're paying him $2.6M lol

He reminded me of Saquon with the eagles last year.

Georgia Tech is rumored to have offered 3 million. With how stacked our RB room is, I don’t any issues will arise.

$3m for 1 year makes $10m or whatever it ended up being for 4 years of Bryce Underwood look like pocket change.

  • Gimme dat

Need to always have a Haynes on the roster going forward

He’s an absolute beast. You’re gonna love him

I'm just a scared little boy who never learned how to ask for others schools players or rb

  • Marshall, Hiter, Tatum is a very good backfield

Problem is Tatum has massive fumble problems.

I’m not overly concerned as he’ll probably be 3rd in the pecking order

Calling it right now he will feature in the wildcat package Beck likes.

Oklahoma's run game troubles aren't isolated to a single player. Michigan is a much better run team; they were 14th in the country in rushing avg yards/attempt this year, Oklahoma was 120th. If Michigan's RB staff thinks he still has the potential he did when he was a #1 running back recruit, I trust them to develop his talent.

Hoping we can coach that out of him

Any coaching will surely be more than he’s had from Demarco Murray. I have no doubt he will go on to be a really good player for you all.

It's like we traded y'all for Sullivan. You guys will love Cole.

Hopefully he gets that sorted out, guy def has the other tools necessary to be solid otherwise.

I heard Tatum is only 19!

Sample size. Guy has 62 touches in his career. It's a mistake to paint anyone with that little experience with such a brush.

  • Ended up being too expensive to keep given what we already have in the RB room and needing to shore up other positions.

Just please go to a team outside of the B1G

  • I was convinced that he was going pro next year. At least we won’t be playing against him next year (hopefully)

  • Wait the rumor is that he going to GT? After rejecting us twice both in recruiting and the portal? Is this man the most prolific UGA hater alive?

  • We sure do love our Haynes-es

  • NIL world is wild when you see even the biggest players lose key guys. Michigan will just poop out another stud RB though.... sigh

It’s actually why NiL is good for the sport and will lead to more teams competing. You aren’t going to get an Alabama with 3 nfl running backs splitting carries anymore, now those guys will be on teams that prioritize each of those guys higher than bama can which both makes those teams better and maybe more importantly hollows out depth from the top teams so they aren’t as impervious to recruiting misses or injury

Our rb room is going to be pretty good with Jordan Marshall, Savion hiter and Taylor Tatum

  • Haynes supposedly going to Georgia Tech. Where have I heard this before

  • He is very good. Probably should just go pro and save those legs.

  • He's incredible but word was we didn't want to pay him enough. He's an NFL-level back already but running backs are in ample supply.

Edit: I honestly wonder if he's getting bad advice here. I don't see how returning for NIL money will beat what he'll get from the draft. He's slated to be RB2 right now, especially if he tests well at the combine. He's had plenty of time to recover for it. And in 2026 pick 31 is going to be making more than $3M.

Like I get that the NFL devalues RBs but not that much. Omarion Hampton went 22 and is averaging $4.4M per year, with like $9M up front.

Likely he wants to improve his draft stock. He hasn't played a single snap since his injury and despite his early season numbers, NFL teams aren't going to blow an early round pick on a running back with no tape post-injury. If GT is willing to pay him $3m and he gets the opportunity to bump himself up a couple rounds, that's a really solid financial decision all around.

  • Y’know…he has the chance to do the funniest thing ever.

    Go to Auburn?

UGA fans would punch air even harder (for those who don’t know his dad is a UGA legend and they recruited him hard.)

  • Before injury he was the best performing RB in the country.

Unfortunate we couldn’t keep him given how stacked our RB room is, but he’ll make a massive impact wherever he lands. Wish him well!

  • This one’s weird cuz most of us expected him gone but to the NFL. Still feel good with Marshall as RB1 and Hiter coming in as a freshman

  • GOing to GT, damn

  • Wut, why? Save the mileage on your body and go pro

  • Best RB in the country. I had no idea he might be transferring. This sucks

  • Makes sense. Hitter probably is making a ton of cash and so is Marshall. Not even Larry Ellison is willing to spend that much. At the end of the days thank God most billionaires are greedy and want actual returns on investment (minus maybe the insane Texas Tech oil folks)

Yeah, it’s just not possible to pay Haynes his market value when there are so many other much more pressing positions of need.

We will just use the money earmarked for Haynes elsewhere on our roster

I imagine most schools have money earmarked by position and the RB room was maxed out. Doubt it frees up new money. Just my guess of how budgeting for this works.

It’s good for a UM fan clearly the program has some wealthy bankrollers at the moment. But we’re in a really dumb period where “whose billionaire is willing to spend the most money” decides how good your roster can be is on a yearly basis.

  • Michigan and GT? Bro came to play school.

Get ready to learn calculus buddy

  • I think really highly of him. In the right circumstances, he could be a Heisman finalist.

I guess he wants a lot of money. Best of luck to him wherever he goes.

  • Noooooooooooo

  • At his best I feel like this guy was maybe the best rb Michigan has had in a while including corum. This OL was obviously not Michigan’s best and yet this guy was just so electric and his acceleration is crazy.

  • While this explains the Tatum move.. This is definitely a swap that Michigan is losing.

  • Does he like covered wagons?

  • God I wish he was going to the league so we could properly claim him, but best of luck wherever he ends up.

  • If the rumors of $3m from Georgia Tech are true, then good for him bc that’s a bag.

Dropping that kind of money on an RB seems pretty out of pocket unless you have the O-line to back it up. Don’t know enough about GT to comment on that aspect, but there’s a reason why RBs are consistently “underpaid” in the NFL.

  • So many rumors going around about an NIL deal that no one has any idea on. My guess is it includes some base cash, performance pay, and possibly some guaranteed corporate spots. I wouldn’t be surprised if its full potential is $2.5mm, but it’s almost certainly not $2.5mm cash from GT. We aren’t poor, but we aren’t rich either and we have a lot of positions of need this year.

boy is about to be drinking some cocacolaaaaa

  • This is stupid as shit lol. Can someone explain to me how this is possibly ‘good’ for the sport? This is a starting RB now going to his 3rd school because he’s chasing a bag.

  • Show of hands, who else is absolutely sick of the unlimited portal era. I know I am.

  • Funniest thing would be to come home He is a Georgia legacy.hobnail boot Haynes Likely asking for too much money

Buford guy, you’re asking for miracles.

  • He was so dang good when healthy. Bummed to not keep him, but I hope he kills it and stays healthy. Get that bag - you only have so much time as a RB.

  • Seems like he is wanting to get a crazy number for NIL and from a roster building perspective having that much money tied up in one position group is not how you build a team in this era.
