I know LA is LA with all of their spending and Ohtani and BS but if he hits the market I would wager so much money on him going to the Yankees or Boston. It feels like NY's answer to the Dodgers would be to give Skubal some crazy ass amount
Imagine he’s the one player we actually spend the bag on. Hopefully he has some competitiveness in him and just doesn’t pull a KD. Would at least make us serious competitors for years to come
i mean the previous arb high for a pitcher was $19.5M
granted it was years ago (David Price), but if I had to guess, the arbitrator isn’t going to say “I’m giving you $13 million more than the previous record high”
then again, Scott Boras is about as good as there is, so who knows
Price was making 4.3m the previous year. Skubal made 10.1 last year.
Price was the reigning AL Cy Young winner, but Skubal has won two in a row with much better seasons than price had. (Basically, Skubal is the best pitcher in baseball. Price wasn't.)
Gotta look at the positive: he's an extremely useful barometer for whether a fan knows what they're talking about. If someone acts like Bummer is garbage, then you know they're ignorant and you can safely ignore their opinions.
Yeah idk what that’s about, I don’t think Bummer is super good by any means but I think every pen could use his profile + how he’s performed (obviously variably relevant dependent on the pen).
Gross lol. I mean he's not the worst option, but he makes me nervous everytime they bring him in, especially if they bring him in with runners on. Dude had zero clean innings in 2025, not exactly what I'd hope for from a reliever. But for $2.2m he's a bargain.
The team and player don't know what the other submits for arbitration before they submit their number. It's very likely the Braves were trying to sign him for like 1.75 million and Lee was trying to get 2.75 million and they both brought their number closer to the middle for arbitration in hopes of winning the case. That's how this usually goes.
Look what happened to Matzek, I feel like relievers have it the toughest in terms of getting through arb to finally get a pay day. Really should pay the man that's a reasonable ask
It very well could have been that it was 1.5 vs 2.2 and the Braves eventually said their absolute best offer was 2, that the Braves did all the compromising and Lee just wouldn’t budge. You never know what’s gone on in negotiation.
The team and player don’t know the figure of the opposite side in these. So it’s actually a good thing that they’re this close in the figure. Atlanta won’t mind the 2.2 number if the arbitrator agrees to it.
Imagine having the best pitcher on the planet going into his last year of club control….and offering him less than what Merrill Kelly just got on the open market.
Well, at least it wasn't a $13 million divide.
Seriously, Tigers only offering $19M for Skubal. Insane.
and that signals they're not resigning him next year. Tarik welcome to LA

And I cant see a world where skubal doesnt win that case. Just bring the trophies in and set them on the table

the record was 10 years ago. that record high is meaningless
That was 12 years ago.
Price was making 4.3m the previous year. Skubal made 10.1 last year.
Price was the reigning AL Cy Young winner, but Skubal has won two in a row with much better seasons than price had. (Basically, Skubal is the best pitcher in baseball. Price wasn't.)
Just walk in and drop his nuts on the table
Its a different sort of embarrassing to be quibbling over 200k
The tigers and mize filed 25k apart recently.
Trent Grisham is making 22 million for 2026
We’re currently on the hook $9.5 million for Bummer in 2026. DL has definitely earned the extra $200K.
I'd pay Lee 5M before I paid Bummer 2, what a bummer of a contract
Bummer has pitched 109.2 innings for the Braves with a 3.69 ERA, 2.87 FIP, and 1.5 fWAR and this sub acts like he's Dan Kolb. It's insane.
Gotta look at the positive: he's an extremely useful barometer for whether a fan knows what they're talking about. If someone acts like Bummer is garbage, then you know they're ignorant and you can safely ignore their opinions.

Not sure this sub knows who Dan Kolb is
I'm not old you're old
I’m Kenshin Kawakami old.
I'm Zane Smith old
You reminded me of Jair Jurrjuens and that hurt my heart.
Joey Devine
You mean Dan "dugout destroyer" Kolb? Never heard of 'em
Oh some of us have been around since the Channel 17 days and we try to block certain memories from our minds.
Bc his first few appearances 2024 gave up some leads and/or bad outings and they’ve just hated him since.
I thought we all agreed to never say that name again.
Nah guy is cheeks against anyone good. Only homers look at his stats and claim he’s serviceable
He literally has the 10th best FIP among all qualified relievers since the start of 2024 lmao
Is that why he accrued 0.1 WAR last season?
He pitched almost 2 months straight last year without contributing to a winning game
Check out his ice cold Savant page
lmao Dylan Dodd had 3x more WAR than Aaron Bummer last year
That’s a…..that’s a…..explodes
Pay the man
We gotta pay Lee, favorite lefty in the pen rn
Gross lol. I mean he's not the worst option, but he makes me nervous everytime they bring him in, especially if they bring him in with runners on. Dude had zero clean innings in 2025, not exactly what I'd hope for from a reliever. But for $2.2m he's a bargain.
Dylan Lee in fact had 31 appearances in 2025 in which he did not allow any baserunners. A decent number of those were more than just 1 inning of work.
Did I just witness a murder?
Nah man youre absolutely on one. You must not watch a lot of relief innings if he makes you nervous
Right? Lee has been one of our best relievers.
You were better off admitting you just don’t watch the games than this crazy take.
You’re thinking of the other lefty, bummer. I’m sure he’s pitched a clean inning at some point but I can’t recall one.
I'm shocked they couldn't just split the difference and go 2.1. That just seems wild to me.
I mean, $100k would be life altering to me, so I guess I get it, but still.
The team and player don't know what the other submits for arbitration before they submit their number. They can agree to a halfway, happens a lot, or at least it used to when the amounts were relatively close, not $19M difference, but we shall see.
Lowballing Skubal is a choice.
I don't know how it works, but i'd imagine this is a non-issue? 200k?
It very well could have been that it was 1.5 vs 2.2 and the Braves eventually said their absolute best offer was 2, that the Braves did all the compromising and Lee just wouldn’t budge. You never know what’s gone on in negotiation.
Ahh copy that, thanks. Wasn't sure how it works.
Now they go to baseball court and the judge decides which number is fair. Curious to see what happens to skubal
The team and player don’t know the figure of the opposite side in these. So it’s actually a good thing that they’re this close in the figure. Atlanta won’t mind the 2.2 number if the arbitrator agrees to it.
That’s how it always works in MLB the Show…
I understand it’s a business and there has to be some sort of a line, where you can’t give everyone what they’re asking/demanding… but $200k?
Really?
Says the guy who will make that in 8 years at his current job
I mean it taking me 3ish years to make that at my current job is the difference, but as my daughter would say "I been working for like 150 years!" lol
Pay the man. During the World Series run he was forced to stay in the bathroom because whenever he was out we had bad luck.
2.1 mil but we install a bidet and a comfort seat.
What’s the story on this?
Starts around the 20:00 minute mark
Holy shit that’s awesome
Did not intend that pun
File and trial. Every year. Every player.
Yup. Figured people would understand that by now.
https://www.batterypower.com/atlanta-braves-news/123177/mauricio-dubon-joey-wentz-eli-white-resigned
That is because those players did not disagree on amounts with the team.
Incoming Braves fans all bent out of shape over something the Braves do every year.
Is it worth $200k to keep Dylan Lee happy? I’d say yeah.
These always get me pay the man it's nothing! Now if I got 200k it's life altering!
We're pissing and farting around over 200k? Jfc. Pay him.
It's shameful.

Thought for sure you were going to go with the "pay that man his money" GIF.
The skubal and tiger differences are insane Skubal deserve.
But in the other side is weird watch the braves into arbitration.
DL deserves the raise to $2.2m.
$200,000? And they couldn't bridge the gap? Guess they better make sure that new premium area by the Home Depot Clubhouse gets done fast
Look at it this way, it could be an extra $2k to the Braves foundation!
Tigers have to keep Skubal's as low as possible for when they trade him, so they can get the best haul possible.
Give him that +10%, AA
Imagine having the best pitcher on the planet going into his last year of club control….and offering him less than what Merrill Kelly just got on the open market.
And now time for another annual edition of “The Braves Always Elect to Go To Arbitration”
