My grandpa and great uncle both went through some shit in Vietnam. My great uncle killed himself, and my grandpa lived with his demons for the rest of his life. He was a kind, patient, and well-spoken man who loved and provided for his family, but he dealt with some shit as a result of what he had seen and done.
He was a proud American and a Marine, but he always told me to use the enlistment option as a last resort. He never regretted his service, but he always impressed onto us how he would never wish the worst of those experiences upon anyone.
I think that's just common of anyone who's actually fought in a war. Which is how you know the people who post shit like this have never actually been in the military, much less seen combat.
You also know anyone who really agrees with this take would shit on any veteran who needed help when they came back and call them less of a man for having PTSD.
Every single time. They fetishize war and soldiers, but only if they're actively away at war. The moment they're home they're too inconvenient to pay attention to.
I really do think they believe thanking veterans for their service is enough, because they sure don't like actually supporting them in any way.
I never saw combat, just talked to all the old dudes I could while I was in… yeah no I’m good on having my brain turned inside out by the horrors of war. Most of those guys were not okay.
Man, we truly live in the dumbest of times. Wilfred Owen wrote about "the old lie: dulce et decorum est pro patria mori [it is sweet and honorable to die for your country]"
Now, poets would have to write about "the new lie: lascivum et virile est pro testosterone mori [it is sexy and manly to die for testosterone]"
The irony is that a war wouldn't "reset testosterone levels", as that poster wanted. I don't know what they think is going to happen? Like, they think wars are going to create a generation of big manly men looking to pick fights?
On the contrary, WW2 created a generation of men who knew about the massive suffering that war caused, and so were much more proactive in doing things to prevent war. That's where things like the United Nations and NATO came from, as well as the massive international institution building in the wake of the second World War.
Paradoxically, it's people who've never experienced real suffering or war who are the most likely to want to fight.
The wealthy people who are paying influencers to normalize and popularize the idea of war want it. That's why the department of defense got renamed and we're antagonizing other countries by blowing their fisherman out of the water.
A simulated war? In just over a year we're scheduled for WW3. I hope you like hypersonic missiles and thousands of instant deaths. -Active duty service member.
I wonder if anyone who wants war has seen any of Ukraine footage where you just get memed with a drone literally blowing your ass off and memed again when in agony you clutch a grenade under your breastplate and it explodes, throwing your severed spinal cord and legs the other way and your intestines just dangling there trying to go the same way. You stay put and this is how you died.
War doesn't make men more masculine, it makes them scared, traumatized and depressed. What makes someone masculine is their character. You can be built like a twig, a wimp, a total loser, but if you have a heart in the right place, you are man. If you give money to charity, you are a man. If you are ready to step in to help a helpless person, you are a man. If you show kindness to everyone no matter the difference, you are a man. That doesn't mean that soldiers and people who want to protect others aren't manly, but masculinity doesn't come from war, war doesn't make someone stronger, character does.
My grandfather was a Chernobyl liquidator. He was a hero for me, cause he saved people from Chernobyl tragedy, and saved his marriage with my grandma. If it wasn't for his bravery, his desire to help, maybe i wouldn't be here in the first place and who knows how many people would suffer because of the tragedy. He is an example what a man should be. I miss him a lot, it's been a year since he passed away. Still can't believe it..
The US has been involved in one conflict or another for the majority of its existence. Granted, a lot of it was in North America, but most of the 20th Century and after has seen foreign conflict after foreign conflict.
Except a lot of young men today would come home from war and unpack their trauma with a therapist. They are way more emotionally healthy today and that's a good thing.
Wars don't forge healthy men. On rare occasions exceptionally strong men maybe. But these won't be healthy. Making them even more dangerous to women like her. She suggested her own demise.
There are no winners in war among soldiers and civilians. It only breeds traumatized, despairing, regretting, grieving, (self)destructive individuals - sometimes highly unstable.
If she told soldiers that it's good they found themself in war because "it made them strong", she will end up just being one more person they had to kill recently. By some may even considered a non significant action. Not even worth thinking about.
"We need a simulated war"
Oh, so now gamers are manly again, huh?
That’s what I was thinking. I fight for managed democracy nearly every night, I guess I’m some sort of alpha or something now.
FOR SUPER EARTH!

Just another thing to add to the list of unrealistic expectations for men
I'm pretty sure if you told them you play simulated war in videogames she would be like: "Eww gaming, what are you, a child?"

It's such a fucking shame. They love the idea and fantasize about it, but when confronted with the reality and the aftermath they recoil in disgust.
Every single time. They fetishize war and soldiers, but only if they're actively away at war. The moment they're home they're too inconvenient to pay attention to.

They all want a hero but aren't prepared for the baggage that comes with one
I never saw combat, just talked to all the old dudes I could while I was in… yeah no I’m good on having my brain turned inside out by the horrors of war. Most of those guys were not okay.
ah yes, ship people off to war and then refuse to give them proper healthcare when they come home.
Either way, this lady's ass cheeks awakening PTSD is another thing entirely.
to wish to send sons to their death over some mindless false idea of masculinity seems foolish and unethical.

We need more people like Moni

I was not expecting a picture like that, and yet it couldn't be more perfect.
Agreed

It’s actually interesting to see older men in places like Eastern Europe who are 5’5” with adult kids who end up being like 6’2”.
I’m always like “huh wonder how that happened….oh yeah”
Yup. My great grandpa was 6'4 and my grandpa is 5'1 (born in September in 1939 Poland).
Why tf would anyone want more war?
You clearly aren't thinking of the shareholders smh

Are you even living your life if you aren't increasing shareholder value ?
The wealthy people who are paying influencers to normalize and popularize the idea of war want it. That's why the department of defense got renamed and we're antagonizing other countries by blowing their fisherman out of the water.
Because WAAAAAAAAGH!!!
If you love war, you hate soldiers.
We just got down with a 20 year fucking war... wtf

I am referencing to a video I saw just today.
Drone guys dropping.
No PTSD veteran with cushy 6 figure job reporting for duty ma'am
Cool, cool
Now let's see the country of origin on the first account
I mean our secretary of defense is a raging alcoholic, and lots of vets drink to deal with ptsd. This might be their plan all along.
My friend fought in Iraq in 2004 and now he is slowly killing himself with alcohol and doesn’t like to leave the house after dark
Love the glorification of war and suffering. Who said men’s mental health wasn’t important? Not this girl!
Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori /s
We should send mads to war
Veterans become trans women at twice the rate of the general population. lol.
Aint no way thats a real stat...is it? O.o

I wonder if it's because it's a path to low-cost healthcare..
Seeing that most admitted to it before hand, i find that likely
You can google it easily.

As a man, I also want that
"simulated war" aka video games?
fair point
I swear, I thought this was from r/LetGirlsHaveFun
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJ3c4IIEazM
We need more women like Moni
The lust for war of the know-nothing conservative faction of tradfucks really knows no bounds.
We had that, it was terrible too. The response was movies like Fight Club and Office Space
How about not interested.
The US has over a million men in the military, far bigger than ancient and medieval armies
Hmm 🥃🗿word
I went to war. Hard.
I usually don't fall for all this "but equality will be nicer for you too!" shite.
But... she makes a valid point and I'm convinced.
no, i want them to die face down in the mud ten thousand miles from home
