Just to be certain, I assume the part with the deep voice, "I got caught in a rush hour" etc., is done by Elwood, or is it another member of the band? I can't find a video of it being done live. And the versions I have found are only live recordings, any studio recordings of this one? Thanks...
Steve cropper?
This might be the answer, I recently came upon a clip of Cropper singing Dock of the Bay
I always thought it was Elwood
Excellent Soul Survivors tune! I love both versions
I thought it was a Jerry tune.
Belief re-enforced by the theory (before my time) that when bay area counties voted on BART, Santa Clara opted for a system of expressways. (Lawrence, Almaden, Montague, Southwest etc.)
Thanks for the replies. Looks like there may not be a consensus here (I do very much appreciate the effort though, sincerely)
I don't have any social media accounts for the most part - I reluctantly joined Reddit only because I like asking questions and finding info on topics from people in the know, and Quora isn't really that great - so a thought came to me: Anyone willing to send a question about this to Dan Aykroyd via his Facebook or Twitter or whatever he has? Or, are there any members of the Blues Brothers band who have a presence and actually answer questions (I doubt Dan really answers much, but I thought it would be worth a try)> I might try to see if any have websites and I can send a message that way, the old way. Obviously this is not important, I realize, bigger things in the world to worry about, I just thought I would try to be clever about it.
Update: I have sent an email to Blue Lou Marini via his website. Whether he actually looks at the question or it is an assistant, I don't know (an assistant may know the answer anyway); also, I may never get a reply. If I do, I will let the group know.
Update 2: I received the answer from Blue Lou: It is Dan Aykroyd.
It’s Elwood
You turned out to be correct
100% Dan/Elwood sang it
You are correct...it was confirmed to me which you can check out in my edited post. Thanks, you were right.
I’ve listened over & over, & although I expected it to sound like Elwood I don’t think it does. But if it isn’t, I unfortunately don’t have any clue about who else it might be!
If you listen to Rubber Biscuit he also does a deep bass voice similar to that in Expressway to your heart.
It’s Elwood for sure
