Steve "The Colonel" Cropper like the rest of the Blues Band, was one of the truly greats:
A founding member of the Stax Records house band, Booker T. & the M.G.’s, tons of hits inclusing the openinging riff on Sam & Dave’s "Soul Man," (which famously included the call, “Play it, Steve!”). He co-wrote "Knock on Wood" with Eddie Floyd, and "In the Midnight Hour" with Wilson Pickett.
As a 13 year old kid watching Blues Brothers, I had absolutely no idea the power and importance of this band of musicians. Truly legendary. RIP Steve Cropper. 🌹
I'm an 80's kid. I wore out the tape I had The Blues Brothers recorded on before I hit 10. Seriously why I grew up wanting to be a musician. I sure hate that as I'm growing older, I'm losing my heroes. Losing Steve Cropper is just as impactful to me as Ozzy and all the other legends of "my time."
“My favorite moment of the whole thing was when John Belushi suggested that I get a hold of all the blues records I could so I could research the music.”

He will be missed...
Co-writer of "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" as well
Amen to that 🙏🏻
I appreciate that he left us such a legacy to listen to. Playing green onions as we speak.
He was a great musician. The Colonel.
A blues brother
We lost a good one! RIP!
Two absolute LEGENDS in their field
Had a sound that could turn goat piss into gasoline. RIP.
Absolute historic giant
Meanwhile, back at the Armada room…
We continue the two hour disco swing party.
He carried that candy assed monkey suit off so well too 😢
Don’t you go changin’
And cue the reel to reel music!
At least he had a change of clothes and not the same suit Jake had on two years ago.

Same here! What a class act!

So sorry to hear about it 😥 RIP, Colonel! 🙏
"Chicken wire?"
RIP 🎼🎵🎶 brother
"Play it Steve!"
RIP Colonel
damn
We lost yet another legend
God had another mission for him.
The werewolf of soul.
Once more a member of the illustrious ‘good old blues brothers boys band’ is snatched from us all by the ravages of time and entropy ☹️
Vaya con dios Colonel 😔

Thank you and good night, Colonel.
He's playin' his thang at the great gig in the sky now
Cool dude
Woke up to Green Onions today.
As a child, having never seen the OG, I always thought this guy was Wolfman Jack.....
Because, well, look at him!
So bummed. 😖
RIP
