its very sad to read this but I'll try to take from it that we're all richer as a people for having this mans music in our lives. Thank you Steve 'The Colonel' Cropper
Randomly bumped into Mr Cropper on a train in England, about 10 years ago. He was over to do some shows with the Animals. He seemed genuinely happy to take time to chat and came across as a very decent human being.
The Blues Brothers, Steve and Duck were my stepping stones in to a wider musical world.
RIP, Colonel. I saw an interview with Steve about Green Onions. I honestly don’t know how deep his musical history went until that episode. Led me to deep dive his career, leading to Duck, Matt, and others. That really was a band “strong enough to turn goat piss into gasoline”.
Got to meet him and sit in on a panel in 2017 when he visited a local college. A very nice guy and he had a lot to say about his time in the music business including working with Otis Redding and of course being with the Blues Brothers. I even got to ask him some questions during the panel and he was happy to sign some albums beforehand. Rest easy Steve.
The man could turn goat piss into gasoline!
So long, Colonel. Fare thee well, say hi to Duck, I'll think of you now and then, and I'll see you on the other side, save me a seat.
Also say hi to Matt Guitar Murphy as well. The jams must be getting good in the afterlife
Murphy's guitar intro to "Sweet Home Chicago" is epic
And John Belushi. They had a band that could turn goat piss into gasoline.
RIP - love Green Onions
Every night, I go to sleep. The blues, fall down like rain 🌧️

Damn
Truely, One of the Greats! It’s a sad day.
Oh damn. Another legend gone.
Well damn. RIP, Crop.
I play guitar and he was always a rollmodel for me. I am feeling this loss like a gut punch.
You can see his guitar at the Stac records museum in Memphis Tennessee
Stax
The docu about Stax on HBO is incredible.
It’s terrific
Sounds like Jake is getting the band back together. I was playing the soundtracks to both Blues Brothers movies the other day too.
Another kick in the nuts
We'll remember "He did?"

Lost a Blues Brother on my birthday? RIP brother, the great gig in the sky just got a new set of strings.
