The fireworks in Berlin make me so anxious! Any tips for when queuing outside, or how do you deal with the noise and anxiety when waiting ;-;

  • Mostly the area around Berghain is not really that much fireworks. Sometimes I just go there because I know it’s a safe place in the queue to protect myself from fireworks.

Yeah, there’s rumours that there was a time when more people wanted to use fireworks at respective area but then suddenly a hero appeared and plainly said: „Nein“. Since then no one ever tried and behaved properly.

  • I just dont go out... plain and simple after 8pm and before 6am, I will not be in the streets

  • Last year there was 0 queue around 1am. It was super weird. But they had such backlash with the 20 year bday queue that they probably made sure it wouldn’t happen again…

I think it's because most people celebrate midnight elsewhere (home, restaurant, private party, clubs which open before midnight...) and don't rush to BH as soon as 1 AM, rather than anything BH itself could do to avoid a massive queue at opening time. I might be wrong of course.

  • I’ve been scared of fireworks all my life, so both me and my dog are nervous wrecks all new years. I never attend Silvester until the 1st.

I was there but what was the backlash?

  • Only in the last 3+ years I've talked to over 200 people coming here from the war zones having PTSD and suffering incredibly all of these firework massacres. In fact there are over 500 000 of them in our city. I also talked to a couple of dozens of pet owners who have to leave the city during festivities or when not having this privilege witnessing their pets being traumatized forever right in front of their eyes. Myself, I've seen random people in the street and on balconies being shot and screaming in pain and horror before being hospitalized.

It is not a 'culture'. It has nothing to do with Berlin freedoms which since over a hundred years were focused on protecting the assaulted minorities. Each perpetrator must be detained and banned from coming into Berlin FOREVER.

The only hope I have is that many of these fireworks are so bad quality, that they explode at the wrong moment, taking limbs, eyes, parts of faces and egocentric orgasmic rage of these explosive clowns once and for all.

So please if you witness violence, don't be scared to stop it. The intolerance must not be tolerated.

Hmmm..... Nice.... Advocate of peace.... With a writing that is...

"The only hope I have is that many of these fireworks are so bad quality, that they explode at the wrong moment, taking limbs, eyes, parts of faces"

    😂😂😂😂

    Cognitive dissonance much? 😂😂

I have not come to bring peace, but a sword

    😂😂😂😂😂 okayyyyyy

    Have a great day ! 😂😂😂

  • I honestly watched a movie in my phone

  • im so confused by the people in berlin, how do you go into a techno club that plays some of the wildest music but scared of fireworks?

Fireworks in Berlin are NOT the same experience as viewing a firework show. People will literally throw fireworks directly at you. Lots of people are hospitalized from it every year. It is an extremely uncontrolled and stressful environment.

Girl. Last few years in Neukölln felt like a warzone. I have gotten lit firecrackers thrown at me from windows. I have been shot after at the ubahn. New years in Berlin is awful. This year I am skipping it all.

ok this makes so much more sense, thanks for giving a proper explanation

God I’m going on NYE. Because there are some parties I want to go to but the fireworks do make me worried

That’s a really gentle elaboration. If you’re at Hermannstraße it’s a NDE literally.

    sound fun tbh

indeed. As much fun as when flying by plain and hear that there’s a need to emergency land because a door locking mechanism broke and the door is going to be chopped of. That kind of fun.

Is a different type of boom boom

So confusing how people can be scared of explosives in an uncontrolled environment and not for music in a very safe controlled space, wild, they must get therapy to get past their very irrational fear. (sarcasm obviously, Berlin fireworks is wild and dangerous and I think being a lil scared is very rational)

I have several Ukrainian friends who got extremely triggered on their first nye in Berlin and the dangerous nature of how ppl use them freely in the street can be quite anxiety inducing in general.

Reducing someone’s fear of Berlin fireworks to listening to loud music is pretty insensitive tbh

Yes bro, fr. Like loud „wild“ music and literal explosives chaotically flying around is the same thing

i mean to me, hearing loud techno is on a similar experience to seeing a large firework show. gives me similar endorphins

the best thing about berlin is the radical acceptance of all sorts of weird people's habits and subcultures with a strong focus on equality and compassion for the vulnerable/marginalized. sometimes though its the worst thing

hahaha true, i just think that the decibels in the club are higher than a commercial firework 😂 to each their own i guess, i hope that person can get some therapy to get past their fear of fireworks, or use earplugs

I appreciate your concern haha. I’m not scared of controlled fireworks. But a lot of ones in Berlin on new years are literally aimed at people on the street. Which is what makes me anxious

makes more sense, as an american i would go join them we love fireworks 😂

The plea from the authorities in Berlin is to please not attack firefighters with fireworks that are trying to but out fires that your fireworks started. Fireworks at NYE in Berlin has nothing to do with a fireworks show. Fireworks in Berlin is more akin to a war zone. There is a heavy smell of gunpowder all over the city.

  • Just like go when the fireworks aren‘t happening- is this a genuine question?

It is, if someone REALLY wants to attend most of the first set in BH (1-5 or 1-4), which means start queueing before 1 AM. Otherwise, not much.

  • Copious amount of drugs....ensures entry as well

  • Just wear protective gear. And throw something back at the aggressor. It's really fun.

  • You should see the fireworks in my pants

  • Why is this in the Berghain community subreddit?

Because it’s about Silvester. It’s literally in the title.

What do fireworks outside have to do with Queuing on the Silvester event ?

Coulda posted this on the r/ peoplewithanexiety or something but go off white knight you’re doing the work 👍🏻

The second part of the sub name is ‘community’ - having a firm grasp of this term in relation to BH will further one’s understanding of how community works in regards to things that are directly and often tangentially related, such as Berlin, club culture, techno, the political landscape or one’s experience of going to BH and how fireworks might play a role.

It is far less likely to find ppl in r/anxiety who have experience of fireworks in Berlin on NYE and waiting in line for 2hrs for BH, whereas it is much more likely and easier to find dozens of ppl who live in Berlin, understand all of those things who suffer from anxiety in this sub bc it is a targeted group AND experience.

Some topics we feel would be better served in other subs and some such as this we allow if we feel it useful to the community.

    Hope this helps.

    You ate that

Are you saying that you came on here with the intention of baiting a response, not bc you care for the thread or discussion at hand… but purely for your own amusement?! I mean, each to their own I guess.

It’s not that deep. It’s never that deep. Remember you’re just a mod on a subreddit dont take it too seriously babes. I was confused. You explained . I took the explanation. Move on little buddy 😉

Pause… firstly these are my feelings not yours. Secondly you didn’t deny anything from my last post, which says enough.

Behave yourself and check your ego before you get caught up in a rule #7 charge.

Oh noooo what will I doooo lol. As if i care. Why did you insert yourself here anyways? If you dont like something im saying you can kindly ban me. but hey, then everyone will see through the fake “community” bullshit you try to preach lol. Being this over sensitive over someone asking a question. Pleaaase lol 🙄

You brought it on yourself. Is it too much to be respectful? You came in the thread not to be helpful but for your own amusement, was given a clear explanation then you basically say you’re here to troll… and when you get called out on it your response is dish out insults bc you don’t want to take accountability for your own behaviour. Please do better.

  • another terrible case of ECO-ANXIETY.

  • who queues for a fucking firework?

  • It’s just firework, won’t hurt you standing in line if there is any. If you want to protect your ears take your hearing protection you use inside.

Why anxious? It’s only fireworks. The chance someone gets you with dangerous ones is almost zero. We have a way way way higher chance to die of an overdose or getting fatally spiked inside.

do you feel depressed? just be happy.

    /s

Hate to break it to you but some people grew up/are in War

Yes but, if im being completely frank, I think loud dark rooms and red lights and fog would trigger any ptsd before a firework.

Not when your brain connects the sound of fireworks with death.. they sound like guns!

And Kugelbomben sound like/are actual bombs

ah, thats why i was suggesting earplugs, would completely drown out the noise

The people I know leave the city!

I think they wouldn’t if the problem could be solved so easy

I have read all of your comments in this thread and whether you’re aware or not, it shows a lack of compassion or empathy and just making shitty remarks for the sake of it. Cut it out.

You know there’s tons and tons of Ukrainians here, right? Please kindly stfu about a topic you really know nothing about. Swear it’s always the amis

Please see rule #1 and make this the last time you make posts dismissing the struggles of others in this manor esp using these comparisons.

Found the person who never came to Berlin / Berghain on NYE.

Living here and heaving been there on NYE many times.

For me it really is just fireworks. Put in your ear protection, grab a Wegbier and sit down at Kotti or somewhere in Neukölln for a warm up. Simply enjoy the spectacle before heading into the clubs. I mean to really be hurt by these things you would need to hold them in your hands or something. For me it is truly just fun to experience a bit of chaos that night.

  • Maybe you can try some earplugs, will help for not getting overstimulated (?)
