It happened to my son, we got him in the car to head to the doctor's and he used that arm to get himself in the car, so we went back inside instead haha
I think this happened with my daughter. Who was probably 6 at the time? She fell asleep after I picked her up at daycare, and unfortunately she nodded off before I got the grocery store as I had to pick up dinner. She was always a nightmare if she fell asleep in the car, so had to gently tug her out of the car. She immediately started crying and said it hurt, something she would sometimes do. But after the short shopping trip she was still crying and saying she was in pain which was unusual, so I drove to the ER. Called my wife, recently separated, told her what was going on, and she is a nurse and said not to go in as CPS might get called. She knew I would never do anything like that, she was already on her way home and said just to take her back to her place and she would deal with her, I was still conflicted but she is a nurse so I agreed.
Found out the next morning she did finally take her to the ER and the doctor did pretty much the same thing and it was fixed in the same way. ER doctor said it happens, also said she was a bit older for it to happen and to just be careful. Also said it often happens when parents play and swing kids around.
I still regret not going into the ER when I was there as they could have fixed it right away.
He listened to his ex-wife's extremely biased opinion, and she used implicit threats ("They'll call CPS") for him to follow her will.
Listening to an actual medical professional would have entailed going to the ER and that's it. Your relative that's on the phone with you doesn't necessarily know what they're talking about (as seen in this case where the ex wife insists on seeing the child, ends up doing nothing for them and makes them wait an extra day for no reason) and does not necessarily have your best interest in mind.
That guy's wife is irresponsible at best, manipulative at worst. He did not, in fact, do a good thing. I'm glad he regrets not following his gut that day.
the fact of the matter is the father Is more likely to have CPS called on them compared to a mother in the same situation (im not saying that it always happens or that she might not have been manipulative. An Ex does not make them automatically make then a villain when it comes to children.
Fathers do not get CPS called on them for bringing a child who's hurting to the ER. Not without a bunch of other things that are wrong.
Like I'm with you that it's more likely, but the infinitesimal chance that it might happen is NOT worth letting your child suffer needlessly. I also agree that ex-wives arent automatic vilains, but again, at best she was being irresponsible here.
One of my daughters used to have this happen so often that I just called her “Gumby”. Twice she self-corrected while we were on the way to the medical center.
I was going to say, as someone who has dislocated a joint...no way was that a dislocation. I have a high pain tolerance and was on two shots of morphine when a doctor popped my shoulder back in and I fucking passed out.
In the U.S. you’d have to wait in the waiting room, be roomed in the ER, have blood drawn, get put on a heart monitor, get a full physical exam, and radiographs of the arm and elbow. 30 minutes later after interpretation by a radiologist, then the doctor will perform the reduction. Then you get your $2,000 bill in the mail.
After paying $75 to have a doctor do this TWICE I finally watched a YouTube video and got up the cottage courage to do it myself TWO MORE TIMES. So happy he's getting older and this isn't common anymore.
That reaching was the only way I knew something had happened to my son. He looked like he was having trouble with that arm but he wasn't crying so I tried to hand him a lollipop and he didn't teach for it. Straight to urgent care. Eventually it happened again and again so I learned how to fix it myself.
That was my stepdad. A Chinese immigrant, but came to the states early at 8 years old. He was a very gifted emergency medicine doctor, retired as our county health officer recently. I don’t know how to describe it, but his hands felt so unimaginably comforting when he examined you for something. It truly made a drug like feeling to the head that relaxed you. And I’ve heard many people agree strongly when I describe this. I don’t even have a good relationship with him, we don’t talk anymore. But I just cannot deny his god given abilities. He was truly meant to do these things.
Not that his immigrant status has anything to do with it, just a small connection I made with the guy in the video. But my point is just that some people have a gift, even a calling to help people. And like my stepdad, they will completely disregard everything else in life to further their calling. Holy fuck was he an asshole, but the amount of lives he saved or improved has been extremely valuable to the world.
Because it’s not the American way. The doc walking out would be a charge, touching the patient would be a charge, bending their arm back is a charge. Talking to the patient would be a charge for therapy. And that candy at the end? Oh that isn’t free! It’s medical candy.
Maybe I am thinking of another video, but I thought this originally was the little girl pretending her arm was hurt, and the doctor knew it was BS and baited her with the candy bar?
sounds like the exact video but with a different caption because people like inventing bullshit in the internet for some reason instead of just saying what actually happen
for all we know, maybe this is the bullshit caption lol
That is how you fix nursemaid's elbow and usually they do have them grab something after to test that it worked, so I think the captioning on this one is honest.
They're not. this is "nursemaid's elbow" and is a quick fix. A lot of pediatricians will teach parents how to do the relocation themselves if their kid is prone to it.
Super common. Fixed both my kids and my nephew’s elbows. Two of them got it from trying to get a piggyback ride. Thế adult yanked the kid up by the arms and onto their backs. Boom radial head pops out. Thế capsule that surrounds the radial head takes time to develop. This happens very commonly in children. And yes most doctors can do this without a problem. We learned this like first year of med school in anatomy class. This is not advanced medicine.

It’s nursemaids elbow. Common for little kids.

She was a nurse, and you followed a medical professionals instructions, you're a good Dad.

This straight up.
Whoaaa whoa whoa this is 2025 bud you can't just be going around Reddit assuming everyone talking about their wife is a dude, dude!?
Happened to my infant while Nana was watching. She grabbed her to stop a fall and the fix really is that fast.
Jesus, what did you dislocate, your femur?
my shoulder. full dislocation, i could see the ball part of the joint hanging down about three four inches. it was just live nerve pain.
Lol that confused wave at the end got me rolling
Right? Like her instincts kicked in while her cpu was still processing. Haha
This is a radial head subluxation, not elbow dislocation. Dislocations are gnarlier, way more painful, and harder to relocate
No it’s not, it’s lupus.
House dat u?
Are you kidding, House!? It’s never Lupis!
It's never lupus.
Nursemaid’s elbow. They teach every third year medical student how to do this. Whether you ever get the opportunity to do it is the question.
Looks like he gets to quite often.
You have to be a Chinese doctor though to do this.
To do it in the waiting room you do lol
In the U.S. you’d have to wait in the waiting room, be roomed in the ER, have blood drawn, get put on a heart monitor, get a full physical exam, and radiographs of the arm and elbow. 30 minutes later after interpretation by a radiologist, then the doctor will perform the reduction. I’ve caused this and fixed it twice with my kids.
After paying $75 to have a doctor do this TWICE I finally watched a YouTube video and got up the
cottagecourage to do it myself TWO MORE TIMES. So happy he's getting older and this isn't common anymore.I hear the cottage is foundational to this technique
Same, all my kids had it and I've fixed it at least 3 times. Easy fix!
and he made sure the test it by having her grab the candy with that arm, always love this vid

Damn why can't I hv one of these doctors in my surrounding. It gives such positive vibes.

Ohh nice to hear ...

barges in waiting room
fixes dislocated elbow
dispenses confectionery
refuses to elaborate further
leaves
Man that doctor is a real one.
In the US, that would be a $20,000 bill.
Maybe I am thinking of another video, but I thought this originally was the little girl pretending her arm was hurt, and the doctor knew it was BS and baited her with the candy bar?

Yes, dislocations are fixed in seconds when you know what you're doing..
I don’t know enough to know if you’re being sarcastic or not..
They're not. this is "nursemaid's elbow" and is a quick fix. A lot of pediatricians will teach parents how to do the relocation themselves if their kid is prone to it.
In the US this would take 6 hours of ER wait time and $2200.
That’ll be 5 grand.
That lil wave at the end!
Stolen post, mirrored
😀!!!
Hate this video because in america that 30 seconds would cost like 2000 dollars, and would have taken 7 hours, and 3 different physicians.
That's the wonderful mental trick called 'reframing'. Even adults can use that trick on themselves in many situations, especially stressful ones.
Wow! O Mr fixit!
In the US insurance would have billed the mother $4k for the treatment and $86 for the candy, sorry, I mean the "therapeutic calorie infusion."
Pulled elbow. One of the moats satisfying things to put right.
How did they know to start filming if the “doctor” appeared suddenly to help??
I don't think any part suggests they didn't know the doctor was coming?
Because the doctor was coming???
