Bandcamp could have offered professional services for other proffessionals. I was a radio dj, promoter and reviewer.

Bandcamp could have ensured that every purchase was safe regardless of the status of the artist or label.

They chose not to.

Bandcamp could have provided ways of downloading via torrent or other stable professional methods - they chose not to.

I understand the advice given by 99.99% of people, but they all are giving personal advice based on being a casual listener/purchaser "You should have downloaded everything and backed it up".

Thats's fine but theirs is NOT the only circumstance in which a purchaser might be in.

Bandcamp made the decision that professionals radio djs, reviewers etc cannot treat Bandcamp as a professional service.

When I contacted Bandcamp I got a response, unisigned saying "thank you for your understanding" They cared nothing about good will.

  • There's a browser extension that makes downloading easier. I've got north of a 1000 albums and have them all backed up to a 2TB external drive in flac.

That’s what I did too. Takes some time to unzip if needed and organize, but if it’s just to download your purchases to back them up and you don’t need to unzip right away, it’s really easy. Why OP didn’t download as they went is beyond me. I subscribed to a few labels where you get access to the back catalog. I just downloaded them all right then.

  • 🤣🤣🤣

  • Torrenting is a "stable professional method"?

  • What is the alternative that you're proposing? That artists can't remove their music? Would that even be legal?

Just spitballing here, but maybe if they take it off the store it doesn't remove it from people's libraries. Like Steam does for games that stop being sold. If you bought the Deadpool game (first example that came to mind) when it was available, you can still re-download it, despite it now being off the store.

Dunno how that all works legally. Obviously Steam has wording about that situation built into the agreements required of studios selling games on Steam. Bandcamp would have to change things to make this the case going forward and alert everyone that it is the case. Not impossible. Unlikely, probably, but not impossible.

  • Jeez the only thing big on my account is my wishlist. sighs

  • you should buy some of my albums too lol
