i was doing a big backfill of my music library since i’m trying to move away from streaming, so i banked up a list of what i needed and waited for bandcamp friday to buy. the site was definitely struggling under load, so the payment process errored out during the purchase. however, the charges did hit my card, and the albums i bought are showing up in my collection, but not in my purchases. and when i try to download the FLACs from my collection, it downloads a seemingly empty file that won’t unzip.
i’ve tried a bunch of workarounds, different devices and browsers, even tried curling the download URL, etc. and have not had success. my best guess is that the payment token it passes through got messed up because of the site errors.
i’ve written into bandcamp twice from their support page and haven’t heard back. i hate putting companies on blast like this, but i don’t know what else to try and that was like $600 of music.
any advice appreciated, or if someone from bandcamp is reading, please help!
Man, that's really strange. Never had an issue with the download of the music itself. Not saying it aint possible
i’ve bought a lot of stuff from bandcamp over the years and this is my first time having this problem, too.
Sometimes with mass production on bandcamp things bug out. Uploading and downloading. Try clearing cookies and/or using a different browser. Usually that solves the issue
If you're using a chrome browser try installing the Batchcamp extension to download them. It's what I use. Go to your collection page and tick the ones to download then hit the blue button at bottom right.
I’ve downloaded thousands of files from BC over the years, and this is the first I’ve heard of this extension. Thank you!
My confirmation mails also have direct download links
don’t really believe this. if it’s in your collection just download it. your collection is your purchases.
Sort of… There is a separate list of purchases
they’re separate sections. these albums are all in my collections, but they do not appear in my purchases. and as i said, the problem is that when i try to download it from the collections page, the file is basically 0kb and won’t unzip. why would i make this up?
Could you send a link from the download for someone else to try? Never had a problem before with any Bandcamp purchases including complete back catalogues.
Can you share screenshots?
I did have some issues downloading a few weeks ago when I was building an SD card for my DAP, it would just get stuck on building/preparing the download and I had to just keep retrying. It was only some albums though, others were building/downloading fine, made me think it’s certain servers in the server farm causing a problem.
I also thought that there is likely a heavy CPU load overhead & queue when converting/preparing the requested download size from the stored highest quality release, presumably this is in preference to having to store all quality versions permanently in favor of real time processing load creating temp files.
You will never hear back from Bandcamp support. I think that department was closed when the company was sold.
Try contacting the artist or label?
I've gotten replies from support for every ticket I've entered
As a buyer or a seller?
From Bandcamp itself or from record companies/artists?
I have put in multiple requests about the web interface (searching my large collection does not find everything. For example I have about a dozen records by one artist and searching by their name finds two) and never gotten a response.
Bandcamp, as a fan. I’ve emailed bands/labels too, and bands almost always reply but labels seldom do.
I buy mainly from small labels. They and artists almost universally respond. Bandcamp itself, never. Maybe it’s going to spam or something.
I assumed this would be the case but, the only time i’ve ever needed them, they responded right away and fixed my problem promptly. I was really expecting to be dicked around but was pleasantly surprised when that didn’t happen.
Contact your card issuer and request a chargeback.
this is really strange, maybe the site must be frozen due to too many purchases, see my albums and if you like, buy mine too : https://darcksamamusic.bandcamp.com/
This is not how you promo music.
It's not a promotion, it's an advertisement, and there are no rules for that.
Same thing, you're dropping a link to your own music without being asked that is irrelevant to the initial discussion.
