One thing I noticed are the rescues making the biggest deal out of this, they're pitbull heavy in available adoptions. For one, I'm glad. It's so fucked up how these shitbulls are getting spread around like some horror movie monster invasion.

HOUSTON – For many families ready to adopt a dog or cat, the search starts on Petfinder, an online platform that lists adoptable pets from shelters and rescues nationwide. But several Houston-area rescue groups say a recent change to Petfinder’s search filters is making their animals harder to find and is already cutting into adoptions.
Suzanne Schaefer, director of administration for Three Little Pitties Rescue, said her organization previously depended on out-of-town visibility to connect animals with adopters in other markets.
“Previously, we were able to show out-of-town pets in our 32 markets across the United States. They took that ability out and now our pets are not showing up,” Schaefer said.
Schaefer said Petfinder still allows users to include transport-ready animals, but the option is easy to miss.
“Now, there is a box at the bottom that people can check to say I want to see out of town pets, but people don’t know to do that,” she said.
Schaefer said the result has been a steep drop in adoption interest.
“Our adoptions have trickled from 35 to 40 applications a day down to five applications a day. We have about 950 animals in our program and really no place to send them right now,” she said.
Schaefer said that slowdown is forcing difficult operational decisions, including pausing community outreach that provided free spay-neuter services and vaccines for owned animals in underserved areas. She also said the rescue has had to stop taking in additional animals.
“We have had to close intake, which means we are not taking animals from our street rescuers, nor are we able to take animals in from shelters,” Schaefer said. Other Houston-area rescues say they are seeing similar impacts.
Angelique Strickler, founder of Waiting Under the Willow Foundation, said: “Recent changes to Petfinder have had a devastating impact on rescue groups and shelters, leading to a significant decrease in adoptions. This ripple effect is resulting in more dogs dying on euthanasia lists and on the streets as rescues are forced to close intake.”
Tammy Livingston with Belle’s Buds Rescue said: “I think we definitely are missing out on people looking to adopt… and it’s a shame… especially out of state adopters.”
In response, Petfinder said the change was driven by user feedback and that out-of-town pets can still be included by selecting a checkbox in the filters.
Petfinder’s statement from Petfinder: “We strive to provide the best user experience on Petfinder by regularly reviewing feedback from adopters and shelter and rescue partners. One of the top user complaints we received over the past year was that local searches included out-of-town pets by default, which confused potential pet adopters seeking nearby adoptions. Based on this feedback, we recently updated the site so only local pets appear in searches initially, while still allowing users to include out-of-town pets at any time by selecting a simple checkbox to ‘Include out-of-town pets that can be transported to your area’ in the search filters.”
Sunnyside Street Dogs said the update has been especially disruptive for groups that place most animals out of state through transport adoptions. The organization said:
“Here at Sunnyside Street Dogs, most of the dogs that we have are adopted out of state. We rely on Petfinder to get these dogs into their furever homes across the United States so that they have a better chance of getting adopted. When Petfinder did the update it caused several problems, but one if the biggest problems is that people that are out of state cannot see the adoptable dogs that are available for transport to their state unless they check a box that says ‘Include out-of-town pets that can be transported to your area.’ This problem, along with many others, has halted not only our adoptions, but all rescues that rely on Petfinder to adopt out their dogs. We have called, emailed, sent online request, and no one is reaching out to us. This is devastating to our rescue because without dogs being adopted, we have to close our intake and can’t help the many other dogs that are out on the streets that still need our help. Our adoptions went from 5 to 15 per week down to 1 or two per week, and with all of the rescues having the same problem there are hundreds of dogs every week that are not being adopted.”
Some local shelters said the change is not affecting how they complete adoptions. Harris County Pets said: “Harris County Pets is aware of recent changes to search features on Petfinder. At this time, these updates do not significantly impact our adoption process. Harris County Pets requires all potential adopters to visit the animal in person at the Harris County Pets Resource Center before completing an adoption. Because in-person visits are required, our adoption operations are not dependent on out-of-town search functionality. We encourage community members to continue visiting our shelter or viewing adoptable animals on our website, countypets.com , to learn more about adoptable pets currently in our care.”
BARC also said the change is not impacting its shelter.
Rescues that rely heavily on transport adoptions say the checkbox may be simple, but they believe many adopters never reach it, and they say the drop in visibility is already translating into fewer applications and fewer animals getting out of the system.
Nobody wants your stupid pitbulls, lady. That's why you probably have them listed as Whippets on Petfinder.
There should be a "no pitbull " filter on Petfinder. Or they should rename it Pitfinder.
You can exclude breeds now. I usually have to exclude Pits, staffies, and mixed breeds. The difference is notable. But obviously doesn’t help for the mislabeled dogs ofc.
Can you report mislabeled animals? Would be great if the posts could be flagged.
I haven’t been on petfinder in awhile, but I randomly go to Adopt A Pet (not to look for a dog for myself, but I check local shelters for my breed to notify the local breed-specific rescue about) and there is a menu there to specify what breed you are looking for.
The problem with this, though, is how many shelters list pit bulls as totally different breeds, or just ‘mixed breed’. So when you do a specific search for breeds that are not pit bull, you still get a bunch of pit bulls and mixes of pits. Unfortunately, I have seen more than a few pits and pit mixes listed as purebred Shiba Inu when I am searching 🥲
So having a ‘no pit bulls’ filter would still bring up endless pages of pit bulls since shelters lie. Plus almost every shelter dog these days is a pit/pit mix anyway 😢
They could solve that by Petfinder taking down the obviously mislabeled ads.
This is an excellent idea!
I’m torn, because sometimes exotics like rabbits need extra help finding homes outside the immediate area. I think this will hurt any type of pets that aren’t cats/dogs. But yeah, no one wants this lady’s pitbulls, that’s besides the point. Shipping Maula across the county so it can attack people and pets three states away.
That must be a local problem for you. Rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, snakes, etc. that land in my local shelter are adopted in a day or so of being posted.
Great news! Wish it was the same everywhere
I just went on petfinder to check it out and a dialog box popped up identifying how to select the "out of area" option. It seems clear.
Intercontinental Ballistic Shitbulls, ready to strike at a moment's notice from all throughout the the world
Sad but true! The Bloodsport thing mongerers are the cause of the crisis!
Had they actually cared about dog welfare as a whole or even a little bit about Bloodsport thing welfare, we could have banned the breeding decades ago.
You can keep your pit bulls but thankfully they are just like every other dog, so when they're extinct you could adopt any other dog and live happily ever after, right?
Vick was in 2007. Almost twenty years ago.
There would be no more tortured fighting dogs and disemboweled victim humans and pets.
It would be the kindest thing to do, however doesn't provide the crazy ego rush that so many Bloodsport people need.
my local city shelter has all kinds of weird stuff. They just don't offer the more dangerous and very expensive exotics like foxes and coyotes. Oddly it's completely legal to go catch one in the wild one way or another lol.
Do people really have coyotes as pets?
there's several breeders if you google it. A lot of people set up 'rescues' and treat it like a pet. Google Weave the coyote. They're pretty famous on FB, youtube, ect
https://www.exoticanimalsforsale.net/coyotes-for-sale.asp
Most states ban it or only allow it of you catch it yourself, like mine.
You can also buy the stew meat lol
https://www.exoticmeatmarkets.com/Coyote-Stew-Meat-Buy-coyote-meat-Wild-Meat-p/coyotestewmeat1601.htm
edit
also pretty much everything is legal if you catch it. Possums, coyotes, foxes, skunk, cougar (permit required!), ect. What's weird is bob cats were specifically singled out as you cannot have one no matter what. Makes me wonder what some bobcat did.
Are bobcats endangered or protected? That could be why.
I get fox as a pet (although in reality it's probably about as fun as keeping a raccoon) but coyote ... wtf.
all im saying is this one is pretty adorable

Foxes piss EVERYWHERE tho. cool on youtube. never get one lol
Pibble Line of Terror: 1. Write an amazing, BS love letter. Make sure to mention deep, soulful, lost everything, owners failed him. If you can't hide a bite, blame child or cat. Use "mouthing" or "nipped" only. Pibble never holds on but releases cause powerful jaws are a lie from Hell. Pibble never "breaks the skin."
Rename with a heartfelt cute name. Bluey is a nice choice.
Add costumes! Give pibble plenty of treats and let the intact male hump you. Remember, it's never sexual.
Use Cheeze Whiz trails and Clonide/Trazadone to bribe Pibble to go outside in the shelter. Redirect with constant toys and treats.
Always put soft, sad music in Tik Tok Videos to hide demonic barking and howling.
Lie and make it seem like Pibble is getting killed tomorrow. Use "kill command" to scsre others into action.
Rescues, remember to charge 2k to eventual owners. You paid $50, but you work hard.
Don't care if the new owners have babies or pets, we need to save Yeasg Beast.
Refuse to take shittbull back. Dox any owner that BEs or forces shitty back.
Pro Tip! Say they are a stray to omit pesky histories and allow an easy name change.
Only Shitty and a couple GSD matter, who cares about other breeds!
Inform people how to lie and force Shitbull to be accepted by landlord. Photo Shop and making a service dog are amazing choices.
Cry Racism if anyone doesn't adore Shitty.

"You work hard, but somehow never have the time, energy or money to have basic intake vet care done.".
I notice this a lot! How can it be legal to transport and/or adopt out intact dogs? They're actually adding to the problem.
Intact, unvaxed, mystery history dogs.
Sounds like a great way to spread diseases to me.
Are rescue pit mommies the girlfriends and wives of dog fighter-breeders? It all makes sense now...
Dear Pitbull Apologists: Comparing your terrible anti-dogs to minorities is racist. Plenty of racists throughout history dehumanize minorities by comparing them to animals.
This needs pinning somewhere. It is perfection.
Dogs (99% pits) from Three little pitties have recently flooded my Petfinder. It'll be a good adjustment overall. Also, TLP asks $1000+ for dogs. Insane.
EDIT: Oh shit, I just realized why I recently got a flood of Three Little Pitties dogs. They've duplicated all their dog profiles multiple times with the location changed for each new profile. So they have 3-4 profiles for 1 dog now to get around the "out-of-town" issue. Fuck these rescues bro.

This is from a different Texas based shelter. So it looks like they're all doing it now.
That phone number is the Silicon Valley area of California, no less...
This dog has 26 profiles

Report the extra profiles to petfinder. There's got to be a clause against that in the TOS.
One dog, one profile, regardless of breed.
Here's from their TOS for rescues: To post pets in the location where they are currently being fostered or sheltered at the time of posting. If a pet is available for transport, you may create a duplicate pet profile using the Transport Destination location type within the pet profile. The distance between each of these locations must be greater than 100 miles.
Ugggggggghhhhhhh
Awesome. So it was all to artificially drive up site use stats.
I would at least give feedback to the website saying their are multiple profiles of dogs that unclear where the dog is located. Throw in how it's confusing and question the legitimacy of if this dog is actually up for adoption.
Is there a way to report these as scams? If I see the same thing for sale, like a car or a boat, on a site like FB marketplace but it's listed in California, Texas, and Virginia then it's usually a scammer who wants to take your Venmo or CashApp deposit and ghost you.
Ew
TLP has 20 profiles for each animal.

(Reposting) From Petfinder TOS:
To post pets in the location where they are currently being fostered or sheltered at the time of posting. If a pet is available for transport, you may create a duplicate pet profile using the Transport Destination location type within the pet profile. The distance between each of these locations must be greater than 100 miles.
Interesting, it seems like this rule and the new rule negate each other.
IMO it was to artificially inflate site use and traffic stats. They knew that this was exactly how rescues would get around the new filter.
Can you report them to Petfinder for this?
I wonder if that is against site TOS.
Possibly. I commented above one point from their TOS.
Their “adoption fees” are insane. I’ve seen them list an elderly chihuahua for around $1,600.
Oh, great. Now Buttplug and Shitrag have 26 profiles each.
There is stupid amount of money put into transporting dogs. It's always money coming from the pockets from well meaning people (or from the rabid rescue fans). I recently saw a place trying to raise $400 to transport a single dog from multiple states away to my area. I hope this update sticks because fuck these people.
The way they smugly call out-of-state pit bull transports "Freedom Rides" or "Life Flights" is pretty gross, too.
I hate that so much. They seriously stole that from people who were wrongfully convicted of crime finally getting released from prison. And we all know what life flights really mean.
Life Flights™ are for when a PB gnaws off parts of your face.
Years ago a rescue raised $20,000 on Gofundme for ONE pit to go to a refuge that would care for it the rest of it's life. They had become desperate because there was only 1 person left that could handle it but they couldn't keep it. They did raise the money and added an update of how thrilled + thankful they were for the generous donations.
I had a guy tell me he couldn't afford his $300 surgery copay because he was paying to ship a dog cross country. I didn't ask any additional details but the way he said "a dog" made me think it wasn't his or a loved one's dog. I wonder if it was something like this.
How many perfectly healthy kittens and dogs desevring of loving homes were euthanized because of shitstains like this woman who waste all this money, time, and resources on worthless, unadoptable shitbulls?
So, if you're running a responsible, ethical rescue, why wouldn't you require an in-person meet & greet with the adopter and the critter to ensure that there's a good fit between them? Wouldn't this policy change ensure that issues like the Bistro fiasco are less likely?
https://www.reddit.com/r/BanPitBulls/comments/1oxkeux/rescue_furious_that_an_adopter_had_their_pit_bed/
GOOD. I'm sick and tired of Texas shipping its pit bull problem to other states.
Since when is Texas so wimpy? You know what to do, Texas. You're the goddamn capital of pit maulings.
I'm in Texas and pit mommies send our Animal Control officials threats until they peace out then put one of their own in the position.
If a city/county shelter fails to qualify as no kill they throw fits in the media and turn animal lovers against city council until more money is thrown at the shelters to expand and farm out more animals to rescues.
It's become a weird government sponsored pit puppy mill at this point.
It seems that in Texas you are allowed to ‘eliminate’ everything EXCEPT pit bulls.
A garden snake crosses your yard? Aim and fire! A squirrel at your bird feeder? Aim and fire! A human beeps at you when you cut them off? Aim and fire! A pit bull is actively tearing the limbs off of your neighbor? It just got too wiggly and needs more love! Let’s spend money to save and rehabilitate it!
I mean... you're not wrong.
Lol yeah this news article had popped up in my news feed this morning and before clicking in I thought, "I wonder if this is going to be about the transport filter..." and sure enough it was. My family had been looking to adopt a dog earlier this year and the fact that half the search results returned were for dogs in Texas was irritating as hell. I gave up and just started going directly to the local shelter websites instead of Petfinder. 100% a smart move on Petfinder's part to not make that filter default on because I'm sure there were plenty of other people like me that wanted to be looking at local animals only.
Sadly TX pit rescues already figured out that they can duplicate dog profiles in every region "within 100 miles" per site TOS, but the reality will be every region.
I find it rather telling that these rescues refer to these out of town areas as 'markets'. It's more about moving product (dogs) and making money (fees and donations) than it is about finding quality homes for animals.
100 percent. The dogs are their products just like puppy mills.
I'm pretty sure a bunch of them have cozy relationships with puppy mills. They traffic the culls. Win win.
Spay/neuter, you'all. And bring back dog catchers if you have the equivalent of Jurassic Park canine predators roaming the whole state.
The problem is the dog catchers are pit apologists and pit mommies now.
The shelters are packed to the rafters, and the local governments are under pressure by the animal lover groups because our shelters often fail to qualify as no kill since the rescues offload the worst dogs to the county so they don't have to take the BE statistic on their own record.
Sad but true. Animal control doesn’t pay enough to have professionals, so now all it attracts are zealots.
This is so F'ing depressing.
I have to laugh because - according to the rescue - not only are the dogs victims because they're not being adopted but now the rescue is a victim because they can't
suckeradvertise Maulie to out-of-town folks as easily. What a terrible thing it must be for them to see their whole world from the point of being a victim.Except when it comes to actual victims of bloodsport dogs. Then, no, there is no "victim."
ETA - I just saw in another comment on this post where this rescue has made 20 or so profiles - each in a different city - for each of their dogs. Honestly, I think this rescue should be banned from posting on Petfinder. I'm reporting them.
Their adoption fees may be against ToS too, I remember seeing them before and they’re listing dogs for $1,000+
How is that "adopting not shopping"?
You order it online, pay exuberant shipping fees and get it shipped to your door.
Sounds a lot like shopping to me.
According to Petfinder TOS for rescues: To post pets in the location where they are currently being fostered or sheltered at the time of posting. If a pet is available for transport, you may create a duplicate pet profile using the Transport Destination location type within the pet profile. The distance between each of these locations must be greater than 100 miles.
It should be a fineable offense to mislabel a dog unless you can prove in a court of law that the dog contains 25% or more of genetic material from that breed. Hit the rescues and shelters which mislabel dogs.
Also the veterinary offices that will lie and call an obvious pitbull a lab mix.
That should cut down on the number of fake mixes.
I see where you’re coming from, but they’d just stop labeling dogs altogether. Even in cases where they’re genuinely trying to guess in a mutt, they’re not exposing themselves to that level of risk. The breed would just be “dog.”
Oh no! "Three Little Pitties Rescue" won't be able to unload their murder mutts onto unsuspecting families!
Sunnyside Street Dogs is a rescue quoted in this article. And guess what! This subreddit featured them about three weeks ago! https://www.reddit.com/r/BanPitBulls/comments/1p7knym/shelter_guilt_tripping_adopter_on_facebook/
Some of these transports get arranged by people online while never even met these dogs. Fucking no.
They rescue pitbulls and cats.
The little pittie has to have a snack for their long trip to their furever home.
Unfortunately they’ve already started finding a way around this by making multiple listings for the same dog but changing the location on each one.
I’m familiar with that rescue, the amount they charge for these dogs is insane and many of their adoptions are transports with adopters not meeting the dog until after they’ve already adopted it.
I wish petfinder had a checkbox to exclude a particular ahem breed. Btw, Dewey Duke is still featured going on 3 years now lol
Oops, I see someone else already commented something similar
You'd still see all the "lab mixes" though.
In a sane world, there would be a full federal investigation into the animal shelter industry.

Cool, cause it's obvious no one else wants these ugly, dangerous mutts.
Have you read anything else on the rest of this sub? If so, please share what you think about victims of dog attacks.
Nah, the dishonest practices of pit peddlers are unethical. People don’t want them, stop trying to force them upon everyone and deal with it.
Take your problems up with the people who are putting out an infinite amount of pits instead of pretending you’re noble for shaming people on this sub for calling out the lies.
That is some expired ham sandwich behavior on your part. Leave.
