The end of the line for Dexter has finally come. I hope the family has found a little peace.

Dexter the dog euthanized, battle over kennel fees continues

Dexter, the pitbull who mauled 95-year-old Janet D’Aleo to death in 2019, was put down on November 22, said both Annie Hornish and Colin Moll, the Town of Suffield’s First Selectman.

“Our only comfort is knowing that Dexter’s soul has gained more freedom in eternal rest than his body has had over the last six years of life,” said a statement by Annie and her husband, Neil Hornish, released after the dog’s death. “Dexter’s legacy will live on through our tireless advocacy.”

Moll viewed the euthanasia and Dexter’s legacy differently, and said other Suffield residents he’s spoken to share his view.

“The feedback I have received is that residents are relieved that the main part of the case is over, and I think we all look forward to being able to turn the page on this matter,” said Moll.

Dexter was confined at River Valley Hospital for six years, having been placed there shortly after the November 2019 mauling. While Suffield’s animal control officer originally ruled in favor of the dog’s disposal, Annie and Neil appealed the decision multiple times. Annie told Inside Investigator last month, after their final petition to the state’s Supreme Court was denied, that town officials intended to prevent them from seeing the dog one last time unless they agreed to sign a non-disparagement agreement. Refusing to sign the agreement, the Hornishes said the town “maintained its cold, callous, and punitive disposition until the bitter end.”

Get the latest news and investigations straight to your inbox Sign Up “Town leaders and River Valley did not even allow Dexter the dignity of being escorted across the Rainbow Bridge by those who loved him,” said the Hornishes’ statement.

They attributed their refusal to sign the non-disparagement agreement to several factors. The legal bar for disparagement is “much lower” than defamation, and would have “banned our family from writing this letter or saying anything that the town perceived to be negative,” they explained. Additionally, they claimed the agreement would have required them to “give up all pending and future legal actions,” and have prevented them from sending pictures or videos of Dexter’s final moments to family. Lastly, the agreement would have allowed the two “one restrictive hour of supervised time with Dexter just prior to his execution,” per their statement. Having declined the offer, Annie told Inside Investigator that she and Neil were allowed only to pick up Dexter’s remains after the fact.

Moll declined to comment on the content of the agreement, saying it would be “inappropriate to comment on confidential settlement communications,” but disputed Annie’s portrayal of its conditions.

“Without discussing the proposal, it is fair to say that the representations that were made by Mrs. Hornish in the press did not accurately reflect the entire discussion,” said Moll. “Ultimately, no agreement was ever reached.”

While the battle over Dexter’s life has ended, the battle over who will cover the costs of Dexter’s multi-year confinement continues. Moll said that Annie’s appeal of the Superior Court’s previous decision, which held her and Neil liable to pay $76,215 in kenneling fees, would likely be resolved “sometime in 2026.” Annie’s lawyer estimates it will be resolved next spring.

Despite Dexter’s death, the Hornishes insisted they would continue to “work to ensure no other family suffers the fate of politically motivated vengeful town leaders.” She called Moll “childish, petulant,” and “seemingly mentally damaged,” and the Hornishes’ statement reasserted their claim that previous FOIA requests revealed an attempt by Moll to craft a “false narrative and caricature of our family, depicting us as cold, soulless people who are callous to the loss of life.”

“Nothing could be further from the truth,” said the statement. They referred to D’Aleo as “our dear friend,” and said they “continue to send our deepest, longstanding condolences to the D’Aleo family as they undoubtedly grapple with their own emotions.” Despite this, the Hornishes remain steadfast in their belief that “no evidence indicates a mauling.”

Annie told Inside Investigator that she plans to write a book about the experience, and said she “will also be working on laws to prevent such abuse of power and cruelty to animals.”

“The town has only emboldened my family,” said Annie. “Their indecency, corruption, and lawbreaking is part of a pattern of behavior, and we will be exposing the town at every turn.”

Moll noted that “to date, no additional [legal] challenges have been made,” and noted that while “the public has a statutory right to file FOI requests and it would not ever be considered retaliation by the Town,” that he was not aware of any additional requests made by the Hornishes.

  • Man over $76k in kennel fees that could of been fucking avoided if they did the right damn thing in the first place 6 YEARS AGO! Cry me a river Mrs Hornish

Think of the people or other pets that could have been helped with 76k! That amount could have been life changing to their community by buying library books, meals, winter clothes, camp tuition, school lunches, vehicles, cleared medical debt, etc.

Nope. It kept a mauling, murdering shit beast in a kennel for 6 years after it killed an elderly lady. Which in itself is just such a malignant fate. Imagine making it to 95, only to succumb to a fucking gargoyle

The thing is, people like this would have never helped other people with that money either.

Absolutely right. It’s not about compassion or love, but anything to avoid therapy, right?!

And this is the description of the severity of the attack for those who aren't familiar with it :

Quote from the article The Inside Investigator " According to a legal brief submitted by the Department of Agriculture (DOA) during the first appeals case, Suffield Police Officer Thomas Kieselback was the first responder on the scene. He provided medical care until EMS arrived but reported D’Aleo as being “unresponsive with severe trauma to her legs, and with massive blood loss.” D’Aleo was pronounced dead at Bay State Medical almost 40 minutes later.

Another responding officer, Detective Shawn St. John conducted witness interviews with Nicholls and Wosko immediately after the attack. St. John reported Wosko as “very distraught, crying, and kept on repeating, ‘I can’t believe this happened,’ and ‘I couldn’t get him,’ and ‘there’s so much blood,’ and ‘I couldn’t stop him, he just kept biting her.’”

Photographs taken of D’Aleo’s legs after the incident “depict massive injuries to Ms. D’Aleo’s lower extremities from multiple deep bites, including to her left leg and ankle, with exposed tissue and muscles, all the way through to her bones.” Officer Selig said that it was “the most severe dog bite” he had ever seen. The injuries were so severe that Selig found it, “extremely difficult to count the number of times Dexter bit.”

Based upon their interviews with Nicholls and Wosko, both Nicholls and the responding officers reported that Dexter’s attack was wholly unprovoked.

Here's a disgusting and depressing fact: that article by Inside Investigator is written in support of the shitbull. Yes, a "journalist" quoted that horrific story and decided to interview the Hornishes to get their side of the story. And then decided to give them a sloppy blowjob in the article.

The article says that she (A. Hornish) says that the are still sending condolences and whatnot to Ms. D'Aleo's family, "while they still grapple with their own emotions". Yeah. Because having a 95 year old lady killed by a shitbull is EXACTLY like that shitbull taking a guided tour dirt nap SIX YEARS LATER. Hornish is fucking disgusting. A typical shitbull owner. How many decent, normal animals could that $76,000 have helped? How many hungry families could it have b9ught groceries for? How many winter coats could it have bought for the poor who have none? But no, it had to pay to house a dog that should have been B.E. SIX YEARS AGO!!! This world needs another flood.

That and their poor dog (not poor for mauling but for being used by them like this) would have got to cross the rainbow bridge with it's owners on it's side, instead of being put down alone after six years of confinement and after never seeing them again. They made their dog go through all that instead of doing the responsible thing because they'd rather put animal that's incapable of putting any of it together through hell that it doesn't understand than endure some discomfort for its sake as humans.

Dogs don't have ability to question their instincts or tell right from wrong. They don't even have ability to think ahead and really understand that what you maul today won't be here tomorrow, or that it will bring issues. They can't contemplate consequences, they don't feel shame because of public perception or even understand it, they don't fear their death beforehand, they don't understand concept of human justice and they can't feel wronged in the legal sense. But they certainly know and hurt when their owners just ditch them and they end up "living" confined without ever seeing them again. Which is all that from dogs perspective happened/mattered because his owners decided to put him through it for no reason comprehensible to their dog.

Even if Dexter hadn't mauled anybody and had been perfect angel of a dog, dragging this for arbitrary concept of justice to satisfy themselves, one that dogs don't have, and in the meantime letting their dog suffer sad fate alone would make these people monsters, because everything else was out of their desire to argue and not to the benefit of their dog and could only hurt the dog whom they at least owed better than this. There's nothing that would make me choose this for my pet even if I actually believed they are being "wrongfully accused" because that's my human concern and what I owe to them is shielding them from things they don't understand instead of putting them through them in hopes I can "win" something that my pet also won't understand.

Why so much concern for whether this dangerous, unstable animal got to spend it's last moments next to their owner , it very well might have mauled them as well since many victims of pit attacks are the owners. Then their family could potentially bring up a new lawsuit for having been allowed near a dog that has already viciously killed another human.

I do feel terrible for the dog tbh. It likely spent 6 years in a small cage without affection or proper exercise, because how could workers be insured to interact with a literal human killer?

The dog is an abomination, but that's not its fault. It deserved to be BE'd immediately and humanely, not tortured for 6 years for one vile woman's vanity.

I believe she only fought so hard because she would do ANYTHING to try and convince the community that her dog wasn't a monster, because owning a monster and allowing it to kill that poor woman made her look bad. We can clearly see her motivations were not to protect the dog, because she was the author of all its considerable suffering.

I think you are correct. This dog was a killer but it still didn’t deserve what happened to it over the course of six years. If the Hornishes had loved the dog, they should have done the right thing and let it go.

A different article on this case was posted here , maybe 2022-2023, and the See You Next Tuesday actually used the "my son the lawyer" line/cliche as a veiled threat to the complainants! This travesty was allowed to go on way too long, and I hope the ineffable contempt for human life displayed by Dexter's owners utterly destroyed any possibility of elected office in the future. Just repugnant entitlement.

     "ineffable contempt for human life"
I don't understand the whole "my dog is/was more important than this 95 year old woman and the family who would have liked for her to live out her life in safety and peace". Dogs have a valued place in many cultures, but placing their value higher than a human life is incomprehensible. It's sad to have to end a dog's life because they are a danger to others, but it's a humane, responsible thing to do. At least the dog was kenneled responsibly so it could never kill again-which I'm positive that if "Dexter" had been returned to Hornish, it would have. Now if they would only do the "responsible" thing and pay what they owe for those 6 years of containment.

All the articles about this on Inside Investigator are written in support of the Hornishes. Seriously, it's deplorable. This site claims to be about corruption. Well, maybe they could stop weeping about an abominable creature and instead write about the corrupt pit-pushing industry.

Nevermind that "love" is a verb and if the Hornishes loved Dexter as they insisted for years, they wouldn't have let him languish in a court-imposed boarding situation for all that time. The humane euthanasia was massively overdue - and not only did they screw over a friend their own dog killed, but they fully screwed the dog over too.

    Nobody wins here.

    These people are entirely insane.

  • So she claims to love the dog but refused to be there for him as he died because then she couldn't continue to publicly act like a victim. What a disgusting person.

This was never about love or reverence for life. Hornish has turned a preventable tragedy that she was responsible for into a personal crusade.

And I truly hope that her campaign robs her and her husband of a comfortable old age.

I hope her kids treat her like she treats others..

Right what I read too and what, incredible enough, made me most angry.

Dexter was a dog not a person so all concepts of human justice are meaningless to it. Dogs only want love, including ones that have flawed wiring and are unsafe. Even if they "won" and everyone knows they weren't going to, it wouldn't be something Dexter could have comprehended or cared about or that would have made all that time spent confined better, because only humans have that ability. Dogs also don't give shit if they are "wrongfully accused" so even if by some magic Dexter was innocent this still wouldn't be something a dog knows or cares about. But abandonment, hurt of not being with ones family and distress are things dogs understand.

It makes me so angry that these people could potentially have spent anything up to whole day of quality time (if they started negotiating early enough for the right things instead of this nonsense) with their dog, they could have made it the best day ever and then Dexter who doesn't even know anything that dogs shouldn't have to worry about is going on just takes a nap in their lap. But instead they made their pet endure six years of confinement with no comfort or explanation that it can understand for something only humans care about that cannot be called justice because animals don't care.

I hate irresponsible pet owners so much.

There are a lot of irresponsible pet owners. But unless they own a pit bull/pit bull mix, they are mostly a danger to their dog, not the community. A wandering dachshund is not going to kill a 95 year old woman out for a walk.

The one thing that makes pit bulls so dangerous? Being a dog. Because we are all conditioned to BELIEVE that all dogs are the same and they all want the same thing: Love and a family. And we are conditioned to believe that a dog would lay down its life before attacking a family member or some random stranger walking down a street.

But pit bulls are not "normal" dog companions. They were bred to kill other dogs and even livestock for our entertainment. How can we make any assumptions that these dogs even care about their owners when the odds are high they will attack and kill even those who feed and love them? And that is dangerous. Because we bring them into our communities and expect them to behave "normally." The tragedy is that people are hurt and killed and yet we insist that it's anything BUT the actual dog/breed that is at fault.

The real horror is that we cannot seem to eradicate a breed that lives in conflict with itself. It loves its family, but it wants to kill them, too. It's a pack animal, but wants to kill its pack. Yes, genetic anomalies will occur that allow a pit bull to live out its life never attacking anyone or another dog, but how will you know your pit bull is one of the "safe" ones?

well you don't ever see other dangerous dog breeds insisting it's the owner not the breed and other nonsense. I love GSDs and Mals but some are just born wrong and aggressive as shit. The military looooves super aggressive mals and buys specific bloodlines for that "feature". You don't keep breeding ever dog, some just don't have a suitable disposition for what that line does and stop breeding to end the line. Pitbull owners do the polar opposite and lots of pitbull litters are just "oops" lines outside of dogfighting.

Pit bulls don't want love, they just want the taste and feel of living flesh on their tongue

Either way, a nice meal and a needle is far more compassionate then 24/7 in a crate.

  • Janet’s family member is on this sub and may run across this at some point if anyone wants to send their family kind words.

Thank you OP for this long awaited follow up!

Definitely sending my deepest condolences to the family and the actual friends of dear Janet D'Aleo after this terrible incident. Also sorry that the way the Hornish's handled this made themselves and a vicious dog more of a victim in their own delusional minds, but I'm sure anyone that reads the truth about it will see right through this sadly + grossly warped version of what happened that they created.

My condolences to the family and friends of Janet D'Aleo. I hope you finally have peace and closure and are surrounded by loving, supportive people.

My condolences to Janet's family. This was a terrible tragedy that should never have happened. I hope that it is some consolation that the pitbull will never hurt anyone else now.

  • I hope she has to pay every penny of the kenneling fees.

They should have told her to piss off after the first appeal failed.

Such a waste of taxpayer money to pay for the courts to have so many appeals.

    Absolutely ridiculous.

What goon wants to keep an animal alive that killed a dear friend? That’s so messed up.

Isn't this all just unreal ?? And they are going to write a book and change laws ? They are doubling and tripling down to keep the delusion alive. Unspeakable tragedy compounded by unspeakable nonsense.

I wonder what happened to the poor woman that was there with Janet as the time of the attack who, as I recall reading, tried to defend her from the attack using a stool. Because according to the H's account [ I don't even want to use their name again ] the aid that was with Janet kind of " caused " poor dumb dog to scratch her or some nonsense. I can't believe the level of nonsense, the highest degree that I've read in a long time.

elected activist judges who give special treatment to their political friends. Can't be seen being mean to pibbies. Gotta let another judge make the hard call..... let em keep pushing it all the fucking way to the state supreme court, which is insane.

I bet they settle the kennel for way fees, due to these same judges.

  • Six years is a disgrace to the trauma that poor woman and her family had to have endured. Six years in a kennel is also a disgrace to a dog tormented by its own head. I'm glad he is at rest, but nothing will take from what that family has gone through.

Exactly this. This was so utterly cruel to the family of the deceased woman and so cruel to the dog. The Hornishes are such selfish people. I hope that the victims family gets some closure and I'm glad that now the dog is also at peace. What an awful chapter.

    Exactly. Selfish cruel people.

Our laws should be changed to call these attacks animal cruelty and abuse. Animals both human and dog suffered because this dog was not protected from its mutant instincts.

They should be banned from ever owning, living with or handling any dog ever again.

I wonder if they still have pit bulls?

That was my first thought. This was so awfully cruel to Janet's family, but also a sick, cruel thing to make this dog live that way for 6 long years. What is wrong with the Hornishes? They didn't love this dog, and they have no empathy for the family that lost a loved one in such a horrific way.

Narcissism. That is what it is.

  • Imagine thinking you’re the good guy for sentencing your “beloved” dog to 6 years in a shelter, and then still refusing to be with him at the end because you’re a petulant piece of shit that’s wasting oxygen.

I hope they make her pay every damn cent plus interest.

I don’t hate pit bulls. I just don’t think they should exist. I never feel great when they’re killed or abused. I just get intensely frustrated that so many people that swear they love them fail them constantly in the most horrific ways. Just another flavor of the “no such thing as enough” disease ravaging American psyches.

I do. I hate shitbulls and their ilk. One of those fucking pos maulers almost murdered my LEASHED Labrador Retriever.

I do. I hate shitbulls and their ilk.

Same. Every time I read on here about one going to a Better Environment, I feel like a good deed has been done.

I feel similarly. I think they're simply unsuitable to be a normal home pet, period.

The same way I don't hate bears at all, but would find someone negligent to the point of resoundingly earning criminal charges if they decided to keep a pet bear that went on to maul and kill innocent people or pets in their neighborhood after they let it out. It is simply widely accepted that bears are not suitable home pets. It should be widely accepted that pitbulls are not suitable home pets.

It's not the dog's fault they're doing what they were bred to do. It's absolutely the horrible humans who breed or advocate for them who put them in the positions where they're able to hurt people and other animals so easily that I hate.

I really wish that shelters and rescues would stop forcing pit bulls to be pets. They were never bred to be companion animals, no matter what their owners/ pit lovers tell you.

Yeah but the mauler's soul has reached a higher plane 🙄

Is that the 5th circle, or the 6th?

  • How was this dog given all this time????

Pissing away your taxes is how

    Hornish was a politician

  • As an Atheist, I finally agree that Dexter is “in a better place”. That is, not able to hurt anyone ever again.

  • Dog mentally break after spending a long time in a shelter, and it's cruel to keep them there afterward. If this owner had truly cared about the dog's welfare she would have let it go years ago.

I agree. No dog should EVER spend 6 years in shelter-like conditions, not even one that has killed a person. They're animals just following instincts, and they should be gone but they shouldn't suffer.

  • Why didn't the judge order the dangerous dog to be BE years ago?

the judge did, it just took this long to exhaust all appeals

It’s an indictment of the system. If a nut like Annie Hornish can tie up both the court system and an entire community and incur tens of thousands of dollars in fees to board a killer dog, that system is letting the inmates run it.

The Hornishes are also responsible for all of the township legal fees as well as their own.

On paper, they are “responsible for” all the expenses. But they successfully fought for six years to delay the BE of their human-killer dog. Which should have been the quickest & easiest decision ever. So while I hope that they can be, uh, incentivized to fork over everything they owe, I won’t hold my breath that it will happen anytime soon. They know exactly how to game and stall the system so that it klonks itself out before any blowback ever reaches them.

Their insurance company is going to come after them too: https://www.courant.com/2021/01/13/family-of-suffield-woman-killed-by-pit-bull-to-receive-2-million-settlement/ "The Hornish’s insurance company will cover the cost of the settlement now, but the company has sued the Hornishes, arguing they should have to cover the cost because the company would not have issued their policy had it known they kept pit bulls, court records show."

As long as the Hornishes own a house it is subject to risk to pay the insurance company and the township

GOOD!!!!! A destitute old age (probably too much to hope for) isn't nearly enough karma to make up for an elderly woman's last moments ones of pain and agony, ripped apart by an ugly, worthless dog.

  • 6 years of keeping this thing alive… wow! All that money wasted to keep a murderous bloodsport beast in existence. Why is this allowed??? It’s absurd!!!

That poor woman made it to 95! An amazing long life that not many people get the honor of making it to! Perhaps she would be celebrating 101 now! All ended because people’s right to own bloodsport beasts is considered more important than all the lives they take!

I am so sorry to this woman’s family! I can’t imagine what they have been going through! Society has put this breed on a golden pedestal, and will worship these things above all human life. It is nauseating. My brain can’t begin to comprehend how people like this think.

I am glad it was finally removed from this world, but it sickens me that it was considered worth giving this murdermutt all the years it took away from this poor woman. Too bad $76,000 can’t be instead used to fund families of pit bull victims instead of for keeping these beasts alive.

  • Not even army vets or struggling single parents are treated this well...

In the end that’s what really bothers me. That’s a lot of money that could have fed a lot of people.

When did we as society value animas over humans?

Esp worthless animals like this one

It's the current state of affairs. We overuse the word "narcissist" today, but I struggle to find another word that is more descriptive of the tendency to treat dogs (even violent ones that are incompatible with life itself) better than humans.

    Decadence before societal collapse? Perhaps...

  • Annie Hornish is the Dolores Umbridge of the dog world. Stupid, wrong about everything, obvious, and with too much power. She hated Dexter, and loves to fight about Dexter.

Had she loved Dexter, she would have been there with him. But she doesn’t want that. No, by that act of feigned stubbornness to nonexistent principle, it’s clear that she never wanted Dexter’s suffering to end. She wants the agony to continue on in her evil brain as a dark and endless fantasy. Her threats of ‘advocacy’ are nothing more than threats that she will cause the death of more elderly people, and cause the caging and suffering of more dogs like Dexter. This, she has proven by action, is the form her advocacy takes.

Annie Hornish is just upset that one of the victims of her particular brand of evil has been allowed to escape the suffering she went to great lengths to ensure it would experience.

Dexter’s passing is probably the best thing that has happened this year. He is free from Annie’s deluded web of death and hate and maybe (hopefully?) delusion. But we’re all still stuck here on earth, with Annie and people like her, who by their actions subsist on the pain and suffering of others.

You know what? I think you are absolutely right.

  • This is such an infuriating case.

  • Just the worst pple in the world. Oh noes, pple are depicting us as cold & callous! Even as we deny our sweet Dexter did anything wrong! If I was Mrs D'Aleo's family I would sue *again* to keep her name out of their goddamn mouths with their lying "condolences."

Every time I read anything from this toxic <redacted> I'm absolutely infuriated. After all this shit, she actually whined about being caricatured on a web page! Pple made mean memes & she blamed the city council for it! I'm sure it was Selectman Moll who caused all of this, not her own actions & continued claims of delusion ("no evidence indicates a mauling" OMG WTAF) which honestly...I don't believe she even believes that.

They had this motherfuckin dog in their home for four months. FOUR MONTHS!!! And they've dragged the entire town & Mrs D'Aleo's family through this shit for six fuckin years. EAT SHIT ANNIE HORNISH.

  • All my sympathies to the family of the victim. How horrendous to have a case like this drag for SIX YEARS. All because of owners that clearly have no remorse, or they would have tried to do right by the family of an innocent woman, who they killed with their negligence.

  • Why didn’t those shitbull nutter sociopaths face any prison time?!

  • Stereotypical pit owner refusing all responsibility for the consequences of the actions of their dog to the very bitter end while insisting they are the real victim in a wrongful death mauling.

Of course they don't want to pay the boarding fees they wracked up by insisting on fighting the court order for so many years.

Had this happened outside their home there is little doubt they would have grabbed the dog and left the victim to succumb to their injuries.

Their version of love for their pet and fellow human beings is toxic and twisted af.

  • “Our only comfort is knowing that Dexter’s soul has gained more freedom in eternal rest than his body has had over the last six years of life”

Yet not one single word of compassion or remorse for the elderly victim or their family. These people really are disgusting ghouls aren't they?

This dog should have been BE'd immediately, no questions asked. I can't believe it's taken them SIX YEARS to do what should have been done straight away.

  • Crying about the dogs miserable last six years when it's HER FAULT. She just couldn't take the loss in her column.

Had the dog been released, what would she have done with it after it spent six years in doggy jail? Nothing. This was all in vain.

  • Thank God. Such evil is gone from this world.

  • Went and looked up the backstory. What a shit show. A former state representative and senior state director of the US Humane Society, Annie Hornish used the system to delay and deflect as long as could, and still had to pay a $2M settlement to Janet D'Aleo's family.

  • Janet’s life was so much more important than this awful dog’s life. The terrible callousness displayed by Dexter’s owners is disturbing. I can’t imagine wanting a dog that took a life!!! I kind of wish they had taken Dexter home and suffered the same fate…

  • Janet D’Aleo was the victim here. Not Hornish or her bloodsport mauler.

If only Hornish and co. would have had criminal charges filed against them. Feel free to fight those fees, and enjoy the lien against any real estate you might hold!

  • I live in a neighboring state of Annie Hornish and every time she posts in her town’s local group all of the comments bring up her dog. I can assure you even the locals hate her. She should be in prison.

  • “They didn’t allow Dexter the dignity…”. Give me a break. The thing is a killer. They accused the town of being cold and callous? Some idiot wanting to keep this killer alive and obviously not caring at all about the person it killed is what I call callous.

Happy ending as far as I’m concerned.

  • Holy Christ they’re rabid vegans. Ughh putting a garbage dog on a pedestal above human life. I’d bet they force their pets to eat vegan!

  • This is one of the attacks that has remained in my mind because it was/is so extremely outrageous what Hornish was allowed to get away with.

Dexter mauled a 95yo woman to death. No one at any age should ever be the victim of this kind of savagery and agony, but attacks on the very young and the very old seem to be especially sickening because of their vulnerability. Janet D’Aleo and her family were denied precious remaining years, goodbyes and a peaceful passage to the next life.

In calling D’Aleo “our dear friend” and then doing everything possible to suppress the truth of D’Aleo’s death and fight the community for six years over a KILLER DOG, Hornish demonstrated exactly what type of “friend” she herself is.

  • This dog went on living for 6 years after it (and its owners, by extension) took away that poor woman's life? What a completely broken system, lacking all logic. And they have the audacity to bitch and moan and resist the fees? Unbelievable.

  • How does it take 5 years to put down a dog that ended the life of a defenseless 95 year old

  • I think I saw a video of the dog before it mauled that lady. Before the mauling, that dog was highly anxious in the video. I remember she had it around all those people. She was only fooling herself. Dexter was not fit to be a pet. He obviously had some genetic instability and that's common with this breed. I wouldn't be surprised if she were part of some underground dog fighting ring by the way she was acting.

  • Janet D’Aleo lived a long life. She deserved to have a peaceful end. Not to be mauled by this horrible dog. Then for the Hornishes to minimize what happened? I feel like they need to go to jail for harboring a dangerous dog. Also I hope they can squeeze the kennel fees out of them. The dog lived way too long. It took a life. It should have been put down that day. I hope that the D’Aleo family knows that there are people from all over that are praying for them and that felt terrible for Janet. She deserved better.

  • The comments about this dogs soul living on and his lasting legacy are a disgrace these people have no empathy for the poor woman who died in one of the most horrific ways possible in my opinion. Imagine the disgusting stink of the pitbull as it mauls you, the sounds of it snarling and the overpowering strength. These people have no empathy at all. They are truly awful.

  • It's evil to keep a dog alive that hurts a person, let alone kills someone. Human life is sacrosanct, and animals should NEVER be elevated above a person's. It's immoral and evil.

  • I turned the bot off for hornish for the night. The thing was going crazy. If you want to call it, it’s Hornishbot. I’ll change it back in a few days.

In November 2019, a pit bull belonging to State Director of the Humane Society of the United States Annie Hornish mauled 95-year-old Janet D'Eleo to death in Hornish's home.

Hornish is on camera here lying to the press to blame the attack on the dead woman, saying Dexter "knocked her down, and we believe it was the fall that killed her" despite police and the destruction order stating: the dog "maimed and mutilated the victim's lower extremities resulting in massive loss of blood, muscle, flesh, and tendons."

Hornish then fought the judge's order to have the dog euthanized and, the dog remained alive and boarded at taxpayer expense.

The pit bull was eventually euthanized in November of 2025 after accruing $76,215 in kennel fees. The Hornishes were offered “one restrictive hour of supervised time with Dexter just prior to his execution,” which they declined.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

  • the Hornishes remain steadfast in their belief that “no evidence indicates a mauling

    the audacity of this woman….

  • It took 6 YEARS and A TON of MONEY until the killer mauling pit was BE'd? Good Lord help us.

  • The Hornishs are pure evil, plain and simple. I hope that this is some kind of peace for Janet's family.

  • They should be prosecuted exactly as if they themselves had bitten this woman to death

  • Finally some form of justice for the victim and her family. Poor lady, she didn't deserve any of that x

  • She called Moll “childish, petulant,” and “seemingly mentally damaged,” and the Hornishes’ statement reasserted their claim that previous FOIA requests revealed an attempt by Moll to craft a “false narrative and caricature of our family, depicting us as cold, soulless people who are callous to the loss of life.”

Projection to the max.  Moll is just being honest.

  • I see the Cult of Pibbles strikes again. This is absolutely pathological

  • Thank the fucking stars.

  • It’s highly likely the taxpayer will have to pay for that $76K, right?

  • The kennel fees will be a good dose of extra Karma for them.

  • Another deranged pit nutter. Blaming the victim and squandering valuable resources. I don’t want to say it’s these people, but it is these people.

  • If I said what I really wanted to say, I'd end up banned from Reddit.

How dare they! The selfish, thoughtless arseholes! Six years and an obscene amount of money for what? To keep a dangerous dog warehoused? That's not the action of a person who loves dogs, it's certainly not the act of a person who can claim to have so much as a shred of decency.

They should be hit with punitive charges on top of the kennel fees; I hope it bankrupts them.

  • Dexter’s owners sound psychotic.

“Town leaders and River Valley did not even allow Dexter the dignity of being escorted across the Rainbow Bridge by those who loved him.”

They let this dog sit in a kennel for six years. No matter how you feel about pits, this is an awful fate. They should have let this dog go years ago.

  • 🥳🥳🥳 Rest in piss Dexter
