Bites to the face, head and neck indicate a dog that is extremely dangerous.
There are two victims - including the owner of Jasper the dog - that were bitten in the face.

[MAJOR EDIT: I was wrong that the pit bulls owner was bitten. That has been deleted. It was the owner of the dog that was killed that was bitten.]

BREMERTON, Wash. — At least six people are recovering from injuries after attempting to break up a vicious dog attack in Kitsap County.

The incident occurred near Bremerton when a woman walking her dog, a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Jasper, was confronted by four pit bulls. The pit bulls then attacked Jasper and his owner

Neighbors rushed to help, and several were bitten while trying to intervene. Jasper was mauled and died from his injuries at the veterinarian clinic.

Lauren Laney, one of the neighbors who intervened, showed her bandaged hand, saying she was bitten while trying to separate the dogs.

"I was walking my daughter to the bus stop when I heard someone's calls for help," Laney said. "The dogs were relentless."

Six people were hospitalized, though the extent of their injuries remains unclear. Laney believes her injuries were the least severe, noting that two people, including Jasper's owner, were bitten in the face. Another man reported being bitten in the foot, but treated it at home

The Kitsap County Sheriff's Office confirmed that animal control has taken the pit bulls involved in the attack. This allegedly was not the first reported incident involving these dogs.

Authorities are investigating whether the owner will face any liability, and neighbors are calling for accountability.

  • Washington State is a cesspool of Pit Bulls with laws protecting victims that are as flaccid as a Centenarian’s dick

  • Mandatory jail time. I don’t know how else to get these morons to have consequences for the danger they’re putting others in.

Exactly they need to start facing consequences for having these murderous monsters

  • To still kill a Rhodesian Ridgeback despite half a dozen adults intervening speaks volumes about these dogs' and their (lack of) suitability as pets.

Yep! A large, powerful breed selectively bred to hunt LIONS still didn’t stand a chance against these disgusting murdermutts!!!

My thoughts exactly. The victims were literally mobbed by these things.

My first thought. A dog bred to hunt fucking lions still stood no chance against game pitbulls. Un-fucking-real.

In packs and they are an agile breed.

  • I hate "it wasn't the first incident"

    Take action BEFORE disaster!

Exactly the first time a shitbull bites should be the last time. Stop giving them and their useless owners second chances🤦🏻‍♀️

  • It sounds like they know who the owner is. Did one person own all four Pitbulls? Arrest him!

  • So awful!!

  • 6 new subs coming right up.

That’s what I was thinking lol, life brings us here!

BREMERTON, Wash. — At least six people are recovering from injuries after attempting to break up a vicious dog attack in Kitsap County.

Multiple neighbors told KOMO News the injured dog, a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Jasper, passed away Wednesday. It’s unclear exactly how the dog died and that’s among the unanswered questions KOMO News has pointed to county officials. Now some neighbors are wondering whether the pit bulls’ owner will be held accountable.

A man who lives near 2nd Avenue and Earhart Street described seeing a dog attack in the street as neighbors jumped in to break it up.

“It was the most animalistic, barbaric scene,” said the neighbor who wanted to stay anonymous.

Lauren Laney showed KOMO News her bandaged hand where she says she was bit by a Pit bull while trying to save Jasper.

“I ran over there to see if I could help, and it was four Pit bulls attacking this one dog,” Laney stated.

She said she was walking her daughter to the bus stop when she heard someone's calls for help. She jumped in to try to separate the dogs she described as “relentless,” then called 911.

"Two of them we could scare off, but the other two were not letting go," Laney explained. "One guy was spraying the bear mace and was spraying the dogs with bear mace and it ended up in the air, so I think most of us got maced. But, [the dogs] did not care. They did not stop.”

Another man said the dogs' owner was there, but couldn't get them under control.

"I was on the phone with police, maybe like 10 minutes," the man explained.

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office told KOMO News animal control took the dogs involved, and that this was not their first reported incident.

The Kitsap Humane Society had not responded to KOMO's multiple inquiries as of Wednesday evening about what penalties the dogs' owner could face, and what would happen to those dogs.

Well that sucks. I was hoping Karma got the owner. Hopefully the owner will be prosecuted.

  • Kitsap County prosecutors' office should be getting lots of calls about making the right decision.

  • Mandatory liability insurance if you own one of these murder machines and mandatory jail time if you fail to control it.
