Hi, I just opened a bag of bacon bits and there's no silica packet in it. Are they safe to eat? I'm seeing some stuff online that makes it seem like it might not be. When I first opened them for some reason I thought I got a whiff of a bad smell but then I smelled them again and they smelled fine. They look fine. But I have an autoimmune disease and get sick easily so I'm wondering if I should worry or not.
When in doubt don't need it. I can't tell you whether it's safe or not but specially if you do have an autoimmune disease when in doubt don't eat it
Honestly if you're already second-guessing the smell and you have health issues, just toss em and grab a new bag. Bacon bits are like $3, not worth the risk of feeling like garbage for days
There’s probably an 800 number on the back of the package you can call and they will reimburse you. In today’s economy, every penny counts.
No. Throw it out immediately.
I have literally never seen silica packs in bacon, and I have a pack of bacon lardons every day.
These are bacon bits. Crumbled bits for salads or baked spuds or the like. Not raw bacon.
Im sorry but if you eat a packet of bacon lardons every day I don’t think you should be handing out health advice
😂😂😂
If there's no visible mold or obvious off smell, and the package was unopened, it shouldn't be a safety hazard. The silica is mostly used to keep the bacon crispy, and keep moisture from occuring to extend the shelf life.
Bought a bad batch of em once and went through the steps of notifying the company, got a replacement coupon no problem. I've always found a silica pack in mine, save for the bad batch, I didn't check🤣
It’s all gd it’s just a moisture absorption! Come on now!!
They put them in there for a reason. If they weren’t needed, then the company and many other companies wouldn’t use them either. They even put them in shoeboxes and clothing, packages, and millions of other products. They serve a very important purpose and it’s just my opinion, but I wouldn’t risk my health, especially since they said that they have an autoimmune disease for something that cost a couple dollars. I mean, if you have to ask, then my answer would be throw it away!!!
