I’ve had a yeast infection once in my 35 years of life before pregnancy but of course during this pregnancy I have one. They recommended Monistat 7 which is supposed to be the “most gentle” one but of course for me I just put it on and I am in thw worst fucking pain I’ve ever been in in my life. And I have a high pain tolerance and gave birth twice unmedicated!!!! The yeast infection itself 10000000% felt like a spa day compared to this and I’m wishing I had that back. I would only wish this pain on someone like Hitler. My baby possibly has trisomy 13 which is obviously much more of an issue than a yeast infection and has been way more on my mind before this, but I cannot think past the pain that putting this cream that’s supposed to help up my coochie. It burns so bad and tbh my vagina is super swollen like did not know something could burn so much or be so swollen.
Yes, I will call my midwife now, but I just needed to vent somewhere before I talk to someone in person.
And also if anyone has been in this situation and have advice, I’d love to hear.
I know there's some serious discomfort with the cream, but is it possible that you're allergic to it...? That's concerning that it's causing swelling and so much pain 😳
That’s a good question 🤔. I hadn’t considered that! When I had the first yeast infection before, I’m pretty sure I took a pill(s?). I’ve never tried this cream before. so maybe it is an allergic reaction 😞
I was given antibiotics for uti and it gave me a yeast infection. The yeast infection hurt more than the UTI. Ice was my best friend until the monistat starts to work.
Oh my god I just tried this and I am in heaven compared to earlier. Thank you.
Others are saying allergic reactions, it’s possible but for me the yeast infection just sucked. Took a day or 2 for meds to start working
I’m so scared to try this on a day 2 😞. Tbh I had to wash it off after <10 minutes, that’s how much I couldn’t handle day 1. But do you mean you had a worse burning feeling compared to the yeast infection after putting the medicine on the first day, but it burned less on after the second day’s application?
The yeast infection was worse than UTI. After day 1 it did get better. The medicine did help though. I would still call DR to get their input.
It’s possible you are having an allergic reaction. I had the same thing (it’s been like 10 years so I’m trying to remember). But it was burning so bad. Maybe check and see what you can take while pregnant for allergies.
Postpartum I had a lot of pain too , I thought something was wrong with my stitches or something , but I was having an allergic reaction to tucks wipes.
I’m so sorry you had this experience too! But I will look into alternatives, I appreciate the info! And good to know about tucks wipes in case it’s related for me too. But what a terrible time to find out you’re allergic to those lol
This probably isn’t related to your situation, but before and during my pregnancy, I was having yeast infections back to back. Come to find out I’m actually type 2 diabetic and my high blood sugar and the hormones making my blood sugar high was the cause of my yeast infections. When I was put on insulin, my sugars dropped dramatically and within a week my infection went away and body started to heal.
Actually this pregnancy according to my blood work I’m pre-diabetic so honestly maybe it is related! I have to do my gestational diabetes test early too / in a few weeks because of it. This is all very new to me, but interesting how it could all be related….
If you can, see if you can go to your local drug store and get a diabetes kit to go ahead and test your blood sugar two hours after waking up before meal. Then two hours after each meal just to keep record and share with your doctor. If your blood sugar is high, I wouldn’t be surprised if that might be the cause of it. Your blood sugar should be 95 or a little below that when you wake up after fasting for two hours. I wish you luck on your journey.
This is not normal at all. Yeast infection medication doesn’t hurt.
Im sorry you are going thru this… take vaginal probiotics on daily in empty stomach regularly, it helps so much with yeast infection & uti. Ofc it’s not a cure, but it’ll help preventing jt!
I got terconazole prescribed. That might be an option to ask about?
Same and can say that this cream saved me!
Can they prescribe fluconazole while pregnant? I once had the worse yeast infection my doctor ever seen and she prescribed my multiple rounds of fluconazole and that for rid of it. I tried Monostat at first and that didn’t even touch it. My doctor saw the infection and said we need to bring out the big guns. I was not pregnant though
Not too be too graphic, but mine was so bad everything was itchy and swollen and I had what looked like pink foam spilling into my underwear. It was bloody yeast. I had to call my doctor and beg her to squeeze me in and she actually told me it was the worst one she’s ever seen.
Fluconazole is generally not recommended in pregnancy. Pregnant women are really only left with topical monistat as a safe option.
Ok thanks for the info I wasn’t sure
Are you using the pessaries or just the cream? Im on a 6 day course right now, thrush caused some of the skin on my labia to split and it would bleed whenever I used the bathroom. Having anything touch it except barrier cream was so excruciating I ended up in the emergency department.
I am also dealing with a stubborn yeast infection at 23 weeks and it is hell. Can you get a prescription for something else from your doctor? Mine prescribed me a different thing that did work (but the infection came back two weeks later). It worked better than Monistat. Baking soda baths help too. Good luck.
I has some burning with monistat 7. It turned out to just be irritation since my skin was so beat up from all the yeast. Personally I only felt burning outside of my vagina, around the entrance. The instructions say to use a little cream outside but apparently that was the wrong advice for me. The rest of the week, I put it far in and then laid down in bed to sleep immediately after. As the week went on, everything got better.
I'm glad you told your midwife, and hopefully they can give good advice. Pain is unfortunately not totally uncommon with monistat, but if you are swelling from the medication as well (I personally have some minor swelling from the yeast itself) then definitely discontinue and get help from a medical professional.
In the case you are allergic, get some probiotics, and place a little unflavoured Greek yogurt on the pocketbook. Bathe/wash with a pH balancing wash, like boric acid.
