I’m a nervous wreck right now. I’m 5 weeks pregnant and tested positive for H3N2/influenza A yesterday (we thought it was just a cold, but clearly we were wrong). That said, I’m past the point of being able to take Tamiflu and have been focusing on rest, hydration, and fever control for the past three days……..with no end in sight. Any time I think my body is starting to recover - nope. Fever……again. Anyways, I also have a history of multiple miscarriages, and while my doctor has me on a cocktail of vitamins and medications, I’m worried that having this virus alone will be enough to negatively affect my pregnancy. Has anyone else hitting influenza Avery early in pregnancy, NOT gotten antivirals, and everything be okay? I’m probably overthinking, but I’m just worried, especially because there’s not much that can be done other than to let the virus run its course.

Not asking for medical advice - just looking for solidarity!

  • there are many people that get the flu in early pregnancy. Try not to worry because there is nothing you can do but get through it now. I didn’t have flu during first trimester but had norovirus with a fever and it was awful. Almost 23 weeks now and baby is doing well. My biggest recommendation is obviously to follow doctors orders, hydrate and electrolytes and try to keep fever down with tylenol as needed. You and baby will be okay! If your symptoms get any more severe, straight back to doctors. Feel better!

  • I’m 20 weeks so further along than you, but I had pneumonia and then the flu right after I finished my antibiotics. Just had my anatomy scan this week and baby looked good.

    Pneumonia while pregnant sounds awful

It’s not great. Think I’m headed back to urgent care tonight to see if the flu turned back into pneumonia. Womp womp.

I’m sorry you had to go through that, but I’m thankful your little one is doing just fine!

  • With my son I got norovirus and Covid during the first trimester. (I’m a teacher and get exposed to lots of illness) Listen to your doctors, take what they deem safe for you, and get rest. You got this! Feel better.

  • Some solidarity: I'm 9 weeks and have covid rn. I've had to take Tylenol longer than recommended to keep the fever down for baby, and I haven't gotten out of bed in 3 days.

You're already doing the most important stuff: rest, hydration and fever control. Personally my go-to has been a "food as medicine" way of life and high quality vitamins and supplements. I just try to remember that my body knows exactly what it's doing, and my job is just to nourish my body as best I can so it can do its thing. Sometimes even then everything doesn't go the way you want, but the best thing you can do is love yourself and your baby and take care. Cheering you on! It'll get better ❤️

This sounds like me - fever for several days, but I’m also trying to remember that I NEED to eat, even if it’s just a little bit. Cheering you on and hoping for a quick recovery for you!

Yes! I definitely haven't been eating enough. Just starting to work on that today but can't cook lol. Do you live with someone that could make you some chicken noodle soup or something? Or maybe buy you a bag of apples or bananas?

Girl, I don’t cook at all lol. My husband and toddler also have this plague, but my husband did go out to the grocery store yesterday and picked up soup for us, which I’ve been living on!

Oh that's so awesome he was able to do that! I relate, sorry about your toddler esp. Fortunately my family decided to take turns getting sick so my husband's trying his best to do all the mom stuff rn, poor guy. Ah well you'll probably laugh about this someday =]
