This car has been so devisive and honestly, I don’t get the hate it gets. Sure, looks are subjective but I like it. I feel like a lot of people who talk trash about it, haven’t even driven it. It’s truly impressive. Coming from an i5 m60, I can’t wait to enjoy that V8.

I’ve driven one. The interior is a nice place to be in and it’s a solid drive.

I just don’t get how they can call it their flagship M car, have it be 50k more expensive than an X5M but end up being slower. Not even mentioning the horrible looks, BMW fans hate irrationality a lot of the time, but this car really deserves all the hate it can get.
Yeah the pricing was stupid but you can buy or lease one now for much cheaper than an X5M. BMW tried to market this has a G-Wagon/Urus alternative but it didn’t resonate with buyers.

I just read a story 40 seconds ago about how someone bought one and it spent 4 months of the next year in the garage, and currently waiting 7+ weeks for a brake line to be delivered from Germany.

Shows the absolute incompetency of bmw North America when they could have pulled one off an unsold car. When something minor comes along to ruin your day it may instead ruin your next couple of months!
I think for this car specifically the issue might be related to it being build by the M company completely, not BMW. Could have an influence on spare part availability outside of Europe.
I don’t think so. We had an X7 that spent months in the shop for different issues and 7/8ths of that time was awaiting parts from Germany.
Invoked the Lemon Law as soon as we were legally able to because we never knew when the next issue was going to come up.
On the bright side the car being in the garage means less time for you having to look at it.

Compared to older designs, most of the new ones look like shit. Sharp, rough lines, small headlights, grills get bigger and bigger (for no reason). I look at this car and I see a person who is squinting with really large nostrils. Nothing attractive about it, from my pov.
Don’t get me started on the interior, everything is digitized and completely detached from the driver (completely opposite from previous generations). However it’s not just bmw things, most car manufacturers are going in that direction.
As you said, looks are subjective, but I have no doubt the engine will deliver and then some.

As impossible as it seems, even the Chinese aren’t buying this, not even with discounts equivalent to $125k USD. This is how bad BMW fucked up… And they still made the man responsible for this mongrel the head of M division.

People are so nasty and all I see is criticism. However, I was recently with my wife at the bmw welt in Munich. The only car she turned her head for other then the RR was XM. I wish I could be at the stage of life to afford such a car. Cheers to you.
My girlfriend doesn’t really care too much about cars but whenever she sees an XM or a new 7-series, she takes a photo of it just to send it to me and laugh about how someone would buy such an abomination, it’s pretty funny if you ask me

Well to be honest, that car was on my mind as well but I’m so done with the Cayenne’s exterior design. I wanted something different.
Now I understand your choice and can’t hate it! Depending on your city, Cayennes aren’t special. For example, I live in Hamburg and I see so many Cayennes, even the Turbo GT, more than any type of XM.
Depending on the colour, the XM can look good, like your blue (my father had the M3 Touring and i7 with this colour, just beautiful). But I have one thing I don’t get about it. Why didn’t BMW offer a lot of the luxury equipment of the i7 for the XM? It costs more than an i7, and weight isn’t an argument. For me, the electrical doors were the best flex ever. It attracts more attention than a loud exhaust. (Maybe BMW updated parts of it. If I’m wrong, correct me, please.)
And what XM is it? The “regular” or the red label?
Yes, exactly, the places in Belgium where I drive around are full of Cayennes. And you can hate or love the XM’s design, at least BMW are changing it up from time to time. It’s ballsy and I like that. Porsche keeps playing it safe and I fear their Cayenne EV will be a huge fail (although it’s not that expensive). I have to agree on the luxury part, at least some of it. It has soft close, massage, heated/cooled cup holders, nice interior lighting, fantastic seats, etc. BUT sadly indeed it lacks the i7 lounge chair in the back with the screen from the top or the automatically closing doors. But at least I do get to enjoy the V8 compared to the i7. BMW EV’s are pretty damn good but having such an ICE under the hood is something else. At least to me. It’s the regular XM (not the label red)

Man I hear you. I bought an M3 last year and BPM was 50k in the NL. This is probably the last car I buy new tbh, I love it but I can't justify such an expense when I know there are thousands of used cars that could be just as fun.

Year 1 drove like shit; it could never figure out what gear it needed to be in and the hybrid cutover was not the smoothest. If BMW has fixed those issues, I would like the car.

I have been passenger in this beast and I was flabbergasted the way it drives. Yes it can accelerate very very fast, but the handling? It drives like a M3 and its crazy cause its a heavy boat like 2.7 tons.

Any particular reason you're switching from an i5 to the XM? Is it only the V8?
My wife has medical issues which makes it a pain to enter and exit low vehicles. That was the main reason. The V8 made my buy it though (over a X5) or iX.

Some of the exterior designs when they were first being promoted were horrendous. Black with a red outlined grill, or red with gold stripes. The actual production models don’t look as bad, but what gets me is the fact that the base models don’t come with a sunroof.
It’s one of the most expensive models in BMW’s lineup and a sunroof isn’t even standard equipment. Doesn’t make sense to me.

I love the look, I love the interior, I don’t love that transmission when not in electric mode. There’s the hate as you mentioned, but there’s also good reasons BMW discontinued it. It’s kind of a lame duck at its price range / competition level. I’d rather have an X5 M60i or Competition but personally I do find a lot to like about the styling of the XM, just find the drive performance to be lacking.

I never drove a V12 but it must be another level. Someday maybe. I get that, even a V8, is not the type of ICE to get in a car focused on comfort. XM msrp goes around 180k.
We say the same about the French haha. But in all honesty, there are A LOT of Belgian drivers who just stick to the middle lane which is a pain. I have good insurance so I will be okay I hope :) I’m more afraid of our tight parking spaces than our highways. People tend to just slam open their doors not looking or caring about the car parked next to them…

It is SUCH a comfortable car, and the interior is incredible. I wanted it to feel more like a beast driving it than it did. It still drove very nicely and imo it's a pretty car. I hope you have many wonderful and fun miles together!!!

Have had mine for almost 2 years. 20K miles with 40 miles plug-in range averaging 59.5 mpg over that time. Comfortable highway ride, silent electric runner in the city. Luxurious interior massage soft close audio system…got rid of a Cayenne GT turbo before this after 5 months and Taycan turbo S prior to that (fantastic vehicle btw). This is a great blend of the two. Efficient and powerful. Dark colors are definitely the preferred color palate to avoid harsh contrast with black trim pieces. If you need to carry cargo on the daily and enjoy luxury/power/efficiency…this one is hard to beat. Yes I think the design could be refined to please a broader audience but it definitely doesn’t blend in. Range rovers unreliable and bland, cayennes a dime a dozen and barely a difference in appearance between the various models. I’ve had an X5M comp…also harsh and needlessly waistful during 90% of driving. Picked this up with 35K in lease incentives. 15k miles a year 3 years 2k a month…really hard to beat for what you get. Oh and the back seat is extraordinary spacious and comfortable for those taking passengers….will no doubt be an excellent Uber Black when they start coming off leases. Just my opinion from one who has lived with it and many other alternatives.

Gravity gray…has some gold fleck in it that picks up the gold trim on XM emblem in certain light interior is the BMW red/orange.

It's not that it's ugly, but it looks like a Urus, and those are Fugly, so by the rule of guilt by association, that's probably where that comes from.
Personally, I've seen BMW make far worse looking SUVs before so this is actually not bad. Great color too.

No. It looks better than both, it’s more luxurious than the X5M and I don’t need to pay too many taxes.
You are not listening to me, neither the X5M nor the X760i are viable choices because of tax. And you said it yourself, it’s the perfect mix between sportiness and luxury while (at least for me) it’s the best looking car of the 3.
But hey you are comparing the XM to a EV so you don’t know better I guess.
