Hey guys,

Going to be buying a 2024-2026 M440i, ideally the 2-door coupe instead of the GC, but I'm wondering about the increased limiter option to 155mph, is it perhaps not possible to get it on the 2-door? I can't seem to find a 2-door that has it yet...

I know that you have to get the Summer Tires, but do they also have to be staggered possibly? EDIT: Seems like I was indeed actually mistaken about this - Staggered isn't an option on the Coupe, only on the GC, which I can find pretty easily with the limiter option. Is the option just commonly not listed on listings or window stickers (checking a quick GC with it, it indeed doesn't seem to be listed on the window sticker), and I have to VIN check each one, or am I just missing something here?

And just to clarify, I'm not really planning on actually going 155mph. While I would like the option to be able to go above 130 if I get the chance to do that again, it's honestly mostly for the re-sale value, and somewhat of a mental thing too tbh.

  • Should be called "high speed synchronization" or something like that. If you have some vins shoot em over to me I'll check the car's options using my dealer tools when I get back to work on Monday

Oh wow, yea that'd be great, thanks for the offer! I very well might end up needing to take you up on that. Right now I've used up all the limited uses on all the public VIN decode sites, so I can't confirm any more. A poster below did also point out that I was actually wrong about not being able to have Staggered tires on the 2-door though, so along with that, It seems pretty likely that most listings just don't specifically list the increased limiter option, regardless of the tires.

I'll reply again if I end up still needing to check some VINs, thanks again for the offer!

I was not aware that was an option. Is there anyway you would possibly be willing to check mine? (If it’s not going to cause any stress or an issue for you at work for any reason). I tried contacting my dealership and the person I spoke with acted like I was asking if my car was made with unicorn parts lol not a clue what I was referencing, so I just told them it was fine and ended the call lol.

Nope, it's quick and easy to do. I just need the last 7 digits of a vin for a BMW car you're interested in and I can pull up the build sheet, who originally owned it and it's full service history at any BMW dealer, things like that.

  • It needs to have come from the factory with z rated tires, and possibly the m sport package. Should be plenty of examples out there as these are popular options

That's what I would have thought too, but neither the build site, sales listings, or window stickers actually give the rating of the tires, or even mention if they're rated as performance tires. Nor is there actually a specific option to select for the limiter on the build site either. Kind of seems like you have to VIN decode every single car to find out if it has it.

  • lol. Then who cares. Unless you live in Germany or plan to track the car, removing the limiter is useless.

Well I definitely do plan on hitting a track at least a few times, and I've ticked over 130 in my current car both on a track and in a straight line, albeit not that much over. As I mentioned though, it's also primarily for the resale value.

“Yo bro, I tuned this bitch to go a lot faster than factory, never did though, trust me” - trustworthy used car salesman

Yea that will totally work for resell value

Haha, thankfully it doesn't work like that, you can actually look up to the VIN and it will list the limiter increase as code 840 - "High Speed Synchronization"

  • The limiter is not an option, it’s a specific software configuration that’s on any car without Z rated rubber. Just ask if it has the M sport package and you should get the higher top end. When I ordered my car I could also specify non-run flat tires, which I wanted

  • On the build sheet it's code 840. If you're ordering, equip the build with summer performance tires. That will trigger the inclusion 155 mph increased limiter. If you're buying from a lot, simply look down at the ground and spot the tire. To confirm, ask a SA to show you the build sheet then scan it for '840 increased top speed limiter'

  • It’s probably because the car has all seasons. You can very well have staggered summers on that vehicle. All seasons make the car limited to 130.
