I've just gotten into self spanking and I'm trying to figure out what I like. No prior spanking experience.
So far my three successes are: an old, heavy wooden ruler (15 inches); an oak spatula with a square bottom; and a very flexible plastic ruler that weighs nothing and stings like mad. I bought a cheap vinyl paddle but I don't like it, too light and wide to feel much.
I'm trying to collect a variety of sensations, to figure out what feels best before I invest in nicer toys. In particular I'd like to find something thuddy.
What sensations am I missing from my list? What cheap toys or pervertables do you recommend?
One of the issues I keep coming across is the fact that it's self spanking. It seems tricky to get the angles I need with longer toys. I'm also a total beginner at this and don't want to hurt myself screwing around with an advanced toy at a bad angle.

One that you might also like is a cheap thing from Temu that’s sold as a massager or something but it’s clearly a spanking tool! I’ll find a link :)
Others are the cane, but this is tricky with getting the right length/angle. A good one is to use a 5mm diameter /50/60cm length of Delrin. It super tough basically unbreakable, but flexible like a cane. Slightly denser and heavier. I put an handle on mine. You can get this stuff on eBay for about £10. Just round off the ends. Search for Delrin/acetal. Different colours too.
Also, I have a self made flogger/prison style/cat/whip that is great. Basically a handle and some leather bootlaces (with knots). Feel free to ask any questions and I can add a pic of it. This is great as easy to swing round your butt from front or side.

I would get a cane or something like it. The other poster mentioned Delrin and I agree, personally I like the feel of a plastic cane. It’s a feeling unlike anything else that you’ll likely love, and hate at the same time.
For a thuddier toy, you’ll need something heavier. A wood cutting board can work. I can’t think of many things around the house that would stand in for a heavy paddle.
The good news, as long as you’re knowledgeable of where to spank (parts of your ass and thighs and stay away from the higher part near your spine), there’s not a whole lot of bad hurt you can cause. But as you probably already know, start slow and increase intensity and repetitions from there.
