I cannot keep track of intel's sockets. There are simply so damn many of them.
I still remember the very first PC I built in the early skylake days, I bought the wrong chipset. It was my fault, obviously, but intel didn't make it easier.
The fact i need to google every time i deal with an intel chip to figure out their socket but with amd I know 5000, 3000, 2000 series are am4 and 7000 and 9000 are am5 speaks volumes about intel's issues.
Not surprised. Just before Christmas I did a budget build for someone went am4 all new parts except ram and found some over priced but fairly priced given the market ddr4 used 16gb for $120 cad is a lot but significantly cheaper then ddr5 used or other ddr4 kits.
14th gen intel cpus are better value than am4 right now imo (im saying this as someone with a 7800x3d), the high end 14th gen cpus are better than the 5700x3d and 5800x3d and more affordable
If you are going to upgrade to 5000 cou series forget the x3d cpus are not worth their price rn. Get a 5600x or 5700x second hand insted and wait for am6.
Ah yes another ddr4 is cheap and readily available post, and then you check and out of stock out of stock out of stock, in-stock if you have a laptop, in stock if you have 16 ram slots 2gb ram sticks will slot in just fiiine.
Ok yep checked again, this time I checked ddr5 too, thanks for supporting AM4, but it’s such a small price difference with the same dilemma. Maybe if you never had a pc 2x16 would be cool, I only have two lanes one already has 32.
Great time to be flexible. Get into older games, go to a console for a while. Come back in 5-10 years with loads of mature games that will run well on mid range PCs.
Unfortunately, DDR4 prices have almost tripled in many regions as well.
Ssd's have doubled in canada
HDD for life
DDR3 let's gooo!
AM4 is the modern day equivalent of LGA775.
Intel fucked things up with new sockets every other generation.
Heck, socket 1156 and 1150 lasted just one generation, if we discount the die-shrunk Broadwell which most 1150 boards don't support, anyway.
And it looks like 1851 won't see past Arrow Lake... probably.
...
I have no fucking idea what the point of this rant is. I guess all I’m really saying is: "AMD good, Intel bad."
Just roll with it.

even then before ryzen it's far easier to deal with AMD, there's only AM3 for full pc build and FM2 for apu
I don't remember anything pre Ryzen wasn't as into tech back then
And mind you some of those were dual RAM capable so you can run both DDR2 and DDR3 RAM.
You won't find that today.
AM4 GANG
I just checked the prices of my 5700X3D. I almost had a heart attack.
Bought it for a bit over 160€, now it's 350€+. 5800X3D is 500€+ even on AliExpress.
Speculation at it's finest!
AM4 is great! It is cheaper, more stable, and more reliable
I can't wait to be playing 30fps @720p.
That sounds to me more like an issue with the GPU as plenty of AM4 processors are fast enough for modern gaming

nibbi an 8gb ddr4 stick is like 2,500 liras in my country and dual 8gb kits are 5,000 liras now.
i think it's the time but ehh... going back to am4 is a bit sucking as ram prices are still bad.
Amd please ryzen 5700x3d PLEASE
goated platform
Ayyempho
AM4 is the gift that keeps on giving.
