I can’t tell if this is a joke. I’m going to believe it’s true.

I'd argue the 9900X3D needs a 3D2 version more than the 9950 variant.

Why gamble it on a popular sku? They can just rename it and disable cores on surplus or defective wafers later

Yeah of course, I just hope AMD does it later down the line.

exactly 1 person actually needs it and this guy anyway will get threadripper as it would be cheaper but obviously normies will flock to pay 1000$ for something no game or even application can properly use

They’ve still not put out X3D Threadrippers yet. I don’t see at all how the kind of person that would go out of their way to buy the dual X3D x950 “doesn’t need or want” X3D.

Edit: even with X3D Epyc CPUs, I’m not 100% on this but I think to get a full 8 core CCD with X3D you had to buy the top SKU with max core count, and allegedly they’ve opted not to renew them for Zen5 yet as their primary customer moved over to the MI-something All-CPU versions with HBM instead.

"no game will ever use it all" is the attitude that kept us back on 4 cores for the best part of a decade

I'm all for evolution, but if in order to evolve you need to gatekeep the PC gaming market only to the riches, then I'm against it. I'd rather they release technological advancements when they are cheap enough to produce to be released at competitive prices.

For example, the 7800X3D (r)evolution was extraordinary specifically because it is a cheap CPU, basically within everyone's reach. Of course, your mileage may vary, but at the end of the day THAT was an affordable CPU, and it's still the second best you can buy, even though you can't find it at MSRP anymore.

If the next gold standard is a $1000 CPU which will be used by developers to test their games and then pick on users because they don't have the best and most expensive CPU ever, then I'd rather not have it at the moment and wait for more efficient manufacturing costs.

"ayemdey" missing the oppurtunity on ryzen's makes me pretty ass boring rn.

I'll not say this as a "slayymd" moment cuz it'd be better for ces and it could've bringed the giant banger.

i hope that sex around Su and Huang was fun for them.

I just doubt they expect THAT much of it if its a silent launch. No need to read between the lines. Why would they hype up something that falls flat on its ass compared to their other products? Lets say a +5% real world use case but a +30% price jump. The company wants to push it? Ok. But there is no need to hype it up IF thats the case.
