For those who own one. Did it replace your daily carries? I find myself still wanting one after looking at it for months and I’m trying to justify it. I already have the Odin 2 pro at home. and a retroid pocket 4 base for my carry. I have a modded 3ds so I can play all the same games the Thor can…just not on one device or with OLED screens. I do really want it but I’m not sure if it’s FOMO or a legit desire. What do you all think? $400 would be a decent dent in the pocketbook but doable. The Thor looks amazing and I’ve seen it top many YouTubers charts. Retro Corp, Techdweeb, Ch 3 Joey, etc. Thoughts?

  • If you want to replace all of the devices you just listed and do it all from one, then yes it's worth it. If you plan to continue using all those devices and kind of drift between them all depending on the game you want to play, then it isn't worth it.

  • I have a 34XXSP and I ordered the Thor Max because I wanted a foldable one to play 3DS Pokemon games; looking nice 😄

  • You already have enough devices, if you only had a 3ds I'd say get it. But there's too much overlap with what you have now especially the Odin 2.

"Enough" devices? Is that a new line coming from Anbernic? I am unfamiliar with this term "enough" when placed before the word devices.

  • I am currently on vacation in Asia with my family (little brother brought his Steam Deck)

And genuinely this is truly an endgame device. I’ve had so much fun playing around with this, and the damn battery is SO GOOD. like truly, if I’m playing 3DS and under and I’m pretty much getting hours worth of playtime with enough to spare for the next day.

    Truly a spectacular device.

  • It’s so nuts that I can play Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for 5h on a single charge. I use it all week while walking on the treadmill.

I have no use for my other devices now.

  • Get it and sell your Odin and RP4 = profit

  • I absolutely adore the hardware; this is the best feeling handheld I own without a doubt.

I am a little disappointed in the current state of DS emulation on Android. I pretty much bought this system entirely to re-experience that library and most of the games I want to play either have significant graphical issues or just can't be played at all (see The World Ends With You).

It's largely software issues, some of which I had hoped would be resolved by just brute forcing it with the incredible specs the Thor brings, but ultimately, I haven't gotten nearly as much use out of the system as I'd expected.

  • This is the first time I've actually ever played emulated games instead of just downloading them and setting up a front end. I feel like for me that speaks volumes and I couldn't be happier with the device

  • Nah man it’s FOMO. You have an 8gen2 device that’s more than good. The only upgrade would be OLED, which is not worth $400. Wait for the Thor 2 actually in a year or two

I think for a lot of us that already have a ton of devices it's not actually FOMO. There are a lot of us that were waiting for a dual screen handheld that didn't cost $1,300 like the original AYANEO DS. I almost ordered the AYANEO RG DS but ultimately stuck with the Thor mainly because AYN actually ships out their devices when they say they will.

I’m saying it’s FOMO for OP because they already have an Odin 2 pro, an RP4, and a more importantly a modded 3DS. The 3DS can play the game more smoothly than the Thor can although OLED and upscaled is nice. But to spend roughly $400, I’d say it’s not worth it.

  • When I got the Odin 2 I didn’t really like bringing it around because turns out I felt it was a tad too big. I had the rp flip 2 but I missed the power of the Odin 2. Thor has been perfect for me. It makes me want to play games and is ready for me to play whenever and wherever.

  • After purchasing the Thor, I sold off all my other Android handheld consoles. Yes, it can serve as a perfect substitute. Although the screen is 16:9, the overall length and weight are not any larger or heavier than those 4:3 devices. It is perfectly compatible with both retro and modern games.

  • You got a lot of stuff, but I will say, I have a desktop, a steam deck, the thor, and an rg35xxsp. That has pretty much covered all use cases I need. If I had a fast android handheld already id likely still have bought the thor, but only because I LOVE ds and 3ds games. If those dont particularly matter, probably not worth getting. Also, comfort is a bit of an issue with the triggers, I deal with it and am pretty used to it now, but its not suuuuper comfy.

  • Honestly my Odin has replace basically all of my handhelds except for a few things I play on my Ally or Steamdeck. Haven't even picked up any of my emulation handhelds or my DS, Dsi, New 2DS XL (my fave DS, 3DS, Vita, PSP Go etc...etc... you get the point. 3DS games look great on it. It goes everywhere with me in my sling bag. I love the feel of it. As someone said before (can't remember who" It honestly feels as if Nintendo never stopped making the DS line & this just happens to be the new 2025 model (it just happens to also be capable of playing Switch and even some Steam PC games. It has that super solid feel that very few of my Chinese handhelds so. For me (I am not saying everyone) this is the ultimate handheld I have been wanting for years. I honestly can't see myself buying another emulation handheld until AYN delivers the Thor 2 assuming they every make one.

  • I have an Ayn Odin 2 Pro as well, and it was my favorite device. It is still the one I feel has thecbest ergonomics, but my Ayn Thor has become my my go to handheld.

My original plan was to have it for dial screen games and it does that really well. But it is such a good around device I pick it up all the time.

However since already own something in that area it might be a bit FOMO, but that doesn't mean you won't still love owning one. The only person you need to justify purchasing one is you.

  • I sold my Odin 2, n3dsxl, PSP and dsiXL and bought the Thor pro (I wish I had got the max) I don't regret it at all, it's my daily driver, I've even got some switch and PC games on there as well. I do have a Legion Go S as well but for pick up and play, take to work for dinner hour I use my Thor (a lot). In my experience and opinion it's the best thing I did.

  • I have no regrets. Replaced my retroid flip 2.
