I didn’t want to make all the buttons black so I ignored the middle small ones (also don’t want to remove the battery and whatnot ) but I think it looks pretty good 😊 (ayn Thor max) what do you guys think?

  • I think this is the first time I've seen pictures of the teardown, it's actually pretty well laid out internals. Unfortunately what I feared is true, looks like the USB port is soldered to the main board. Also those speaker wells are pretty big, I'm surprised they don't sound better (although I've tweaked them on mine).

Nice white and black combo, makes it pop even more!

  • Wow this looks great. Especially loving the blue and red colored lights on the sticks :) . I don't have mine yet but can everyone change the color of the sticks to separate colors like you've done in the photo?

Yep, you can fully customize the colors

    Awesome! Love the customizability!

  • Ia it possible to change the placements of A/B and X/Y to the same layout as a xbox controller, or does the software throw a spaz attack

Look on alli express. They have PlayStation so I’d expect you can do that and I’m pretty sure the software will let you

So i should be able to reprogram the buttons in the settings then.

Thanks for the info, i hope it does work as i hate the layout they use atm

The AYN monitor on the bottom screen has a button that lets you swap between the Nintendo or Xbox layout

Its possible - I've done it on mine. You peel the buttons of the membrane and rearrange them - though you will need to cut a couple of tabs. *

    Tabs?

    Thanks i appreciate the info.

Might be easier to order a set online and just socket them in.

not sure about switching the actual buttons, but switching the layout in software is trivial

  • this is very appealing for me. Hmm should I swap mine too.

Yes. It’s not that hard 😊

  • Looks great! How delicate are the little ribbon cables you have to disconnect? I got my black Thor delivered with additional rainbow buttons but have been apprehensive to change them as I haven’t worked with this type of electronics before.

They seem so delicate but are more resilient than they look. I've definitely done things that made me think I damaged some ribbon cables but they've always been fine. Just make sure you watch a teardown video and note that there are plastic clips to release the ribbon cable as I've pulled out my fair share without thinking.

The hardest part was how small they are and how tight the working area is for one of them. Some plastic tipped tweezers are a must. Also, you will not be getting the case apart without some plastic spudgers, the seams are very thin. My iFixit toolkit had everything I needed, but there are far less pricey options on Amazon or Aliexpress. Harbor Freight has an 87 piece Quinn branded kit that's basically just an iFixit Pro kit at half the price

  • Does AYN let you order parts? I might want to do something like this.

Yes. All ya gotta do is email em

  • The buttons look great, but I'm not a fan of the triggers being different on each side. Would probably look better with all 4 being black or just leaving the outside white.

  • two face ayn thor?
