I'm at the age/point where I'd like to have a lawn service come out and service my lawn year-round so I'm able to spend more time with my family.

I've looked into services like Lawn Love and see great reviews. Two questions for anyone with experience with them.

  1. What do these services do in the Winter time? I'm simply looking at the basic 'mow' package.
  2. How frequently do you have them come? Does it vary by season?

My entire backyard is covered in leaves right now - but I wonder if this will be an extra charge or not

  • Skip the hellish gas-powered leaf blowers if you can. Worst invention ever.

This company does a great job. All electric equipment and quiet!

  • Leaves are definitely extra they charge per bag like $5-10

  • leave the leaves, they're good for the soil and the good bugs and such. or get the service to at least mow over them. no need for them to be bagged and disposed of.

Leaves do need to be mulched. If left directly on the lawn to decompose they will smother the grass. It’s good to have a spot in the yard to leave some leaves to house bugs, eggs, and little critters like lizards over winter.

we have a ridiculous amount of trees around our house and just two small patches of grass.

i'd love a service that does leaf pickup when lawns don't need to be mowed (winter)

Any service will do that. You just have to schedule it and pay for it(obviously- lol). Our lawn guy comes several times to pickup leaves during the winter/ early fall before he ever starts mowing. We have a lot of trees and it’s a nightmare to do it all in the spring if you don’t stay on top of it. I don’t think he works in your zip code, but I’ll ask him.

(lmao) i meant moreso on the bit where it's the same charge, but they change what they do throughout the seasons vs.... pay flat rate $50 mow fee + additional charges

My lawn guy comes every other week. He charges one fee on weeks there are no leaves on the ground, and slightly higher on weeks there are leaves on the ground. I am VERY HAPPY to pay him and his crew a bit more of leaf weeks, having done the lawn myself for years. It is very labor intensive to clean up and bag leaves. There are only a few weeks in the fall and a few weeks in the spring where this is an issue.

Why would you expect that? Cleaning up leaves is way more labor intensive than just mowing and it takes additional time.

If you don’t want to pay people fairly for the work they do then I guess we’ve found the reason you can’t find a lawn service.

  • Leaves are extra. You should leave some leaves in your yard, but not a thick layer in the grass. The leaves will smother your lawn. A leaf pile/ undisturbed area/ flower bed for the left behind leaves is better than leaving them directly on the grass.

  • i found some guys off Yelp that are not a big company and he checks in with me before coming. When late November rolled around I just said -- okay let's hold off until I'm ready to start back up. In the winter they do things like trimming and holiday lights etc. No packages no commitments and I think it's pretty reasonable.

mind sharing this with me? I'd be interested in a service that changes what they provide throughout the year

Sure. Riveras Lawn Care. (512) 893-0480. This is Fernando. They always take pics of what they do and text them to me. I pay with Zelle so it is really easy to do.

  • I use a service that comes every two weeks for 8 months and once a month for the 4 winter months. Get several bids and talk to each company to see who will do the work you want at a price you want.

  • I had a service through a company several years ago, they would do mow and blow in the spring and summer, then try to charge me extra for leaves in the fall, still leaving small piles of leaves and asking $150 to come back and clean it up. I canceled and asked a guy who mowed my neighbors to also do mine and he does all the leaves in the fall (and spring for live oaks) for the same biweekly price. He comes once a month usually Jan-Mar when the lawn is dormant.

My recommendation is to just look around your neighborhood and see who has a lawn that looks good and try to get that same person to do yours at the same time. Preferably someone without a big company logo on the side of their truck.

mind sharing who this is? I'd love a service like this-->

  • Lame ad is lame. Try better. Ive heard Lawn Love is a marketing scheme and abuses its labor

    thanks bot--

if you're here to help- i'd love a different recommendation. I know they likely take 30% cut or more from the people providing the services-

  • Hey All- thanks for the comments and help!

It seems like i'd benefit from a service that charges the same weekly/bi-weekly rate but changes what they do between summer (lawn) and winter/spring (leaves)

anyone know if companies that offer exactly the above? ^

I'd like to try and avoid paying $50 for a lawn 'mowing' in the winter, when the grass isn't growing and I actually just need leaf cleanup.

I think honestly you just need to pay for lawn "service" biweekly and let them do what they're going to do. My guy and his crew mow and edge. They blow off patios and sidewalks and other surfaces. When there are leaves on the ground, they clean up leaves and bag them. Some of the leaves do wind up blown into my flowerbeds by the fence, but I'm cool with that because I have great fireflies every summer :).

I pay a flat rate for non leafy weeks and pay extra on top of that when there are leaves on the ground, but this is only a few weeks a year, so not a big deal.

  • Loved when my family became old enough to learn how to work on the lawn.
