  • I personally just give hearts because I think it’s nicer than a thumbs up🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Same lmao everyone gets hearts from me and thankfully no one has misinterpreted it as flirtatious xD

This. Thumbs up is on my sht list beside the word *sure. I hate them for no reason🤷🏻‍♀️.

Yeah it’s like I LOVE that! Not I love you 😂

  • Thumbs up = confirm or acknowledgement of information or plans

Heart = appreciation of what was shared

Exactly how I view it. The amount of times I like messages as a way of “ok/acknowledgment” quickly, I hope it’s not being interpreted any other way

oh this was the best. i bet whoever posted this has a good degree. the clarity.

This is how I use them

yes!! that's how i use it.

Yep, that's the way I interpret it, too.

    this right here.

didnt know how a thumbs up could be so offensive lol

  • 👍🏽 means they hate me and everything I stand for

Lmao! The equivalent of, "Bless your heart."

Unless it’s from your dad bc dads don’t know better

  • Context. To me it usually indicates a “strong like”. If something really resonated with me I’d heart it rather than thumbs up. Thumbs up is the emoji equivalent of “copy that”, which is very distant.

  • Thumbs up is a "Noted" but the person doesn't want to engage much about it. Heart feels more personal. I use thumbs up with co-workers or family I need to interact with but don't want to deal with.

  • Usually a heart reaction is like a strong agree, or I like that response, not necessarily flirty unless the text they heart is a flirty text ahahah

  • I use 👍 when I understand something but it’s not good or I don’t want then to think I love it. Also, when I agree with something in the same situation. Like, the funeral will start at 2 but we need to be there at 1:30 isn’t getting a heart.

  • 👍 is basically just acknowledging something or the equivalent of saying ok (quickly)

❤️ is if I actually really like the message they sent

I interpret it the exact same way I send them. I don’t think of that alone as flirty unless you’re already flirting

Same! My married friends ❤️ stuff all the time in group chats and it’s not seen as flirty.

  • Definitely need context. I give hearts to my mom, friends or to flirt.

  • I think a lot of the times it’s the double tap reaction and not flirty

  • I prefer to use 👌 or 🫡 instead of 👍

    I can't use 👌🏼 #ineedhelp, lol!

  • Heart feels softer and gentle. Thumbs up and I immediately wonder if they’re mad at me lol

  • I send hearts ALL THE TIME

  • OK, I really feel like I need to share my thoughts here. I for some reason cannot stand a thumbs up from close friends. I just feel like it comes off cold. I understand this seems kind of crazy too many people, but I’m somebody that puts ❤️.

For example, I have a close friend at work and whenever we text each other something super serious that’s a private thing, it really irks me that she puts a thumbs up when in fact, it’s definitely something you should put a heart on!

So, yes I sound nuts but I do not like those thumbs up emojis! 😫

I don’t like the thumbs up emoji either

  • heart is if i agree and am feeling warm or happy about the comment.

  • Hearts = People I care to have in my life. Thumbs up = People I don’t, and people from work

  • I usually always use hearts, I think people tend to not like the 👍🏻because it’s usually used passive aggressively sometimes. Hearts can mean an array of things for me, ‘hey I saw this, didn’t have anything to say back but want to acknowledge I saw and heard it’, ‘I love what you said here’ or flirty depending the person and context.

  • I never give hearts when I text men

    [deleted]

Your brain probably works like mine and don’t want thinks to get misread. I’m surprised by the responses in here too lol

  • 👍 = yes, correct, this option

❤️ = thank you and yay!

I hope no one sees my ❤️ as flirtatious because they'll be peeing very far away from the bucket 😁

  • Definitley context but for me I mostly use hearts because it feels more caring and positive while a thumbs up feels passive aggressive.

  • In my mixed-gender friend groups we use thumbs up to say yes, I agree. We use a heart to mean ooh, I feel the same. Both mean the comment was seen and agreed with, but the thumb is for logical agreement and the heart is for feeling and support.

In a dating context it kind of works the same, but I am more likely to use a heart to flirt or show affection rather than just agreement. It has a kind of aww, you're so sweet vibe.

  • A "thumbs up" seems a bit cold to me but it really depends on who the "thumbs up" is coming from

  • Context is key. Sometimes I get pissed and put 👍🏼

❤️ is something I reserve only for texting loved ones. Like hardly 2 people.

For virtual strangers, I use ❣️

  • Depends on context.

  • It just indicates strong like or appreciation. Even among work colleagues we use it a lot, including between opposite genders. For instance send someone a teams message saying I’ve done something they asked for and they will ❤️ it to show appreciation.

  • Context. ❤️ means love, so either "i loved it" or "i love you" in accordance with the context of the text. 👍 is a bit cold, distant. It's a simple "ok".

  • A single thumbs 👍 up means “ok/k/mk/kk/cool/okay” but doesn’t want to engage more in the conversation subtlety signaling, “that’s nice/cool bit I would like to move on to another topic” in most contexts or when I am emotional then I think the person sending that emoji is upset at me for people that I am NOT close with. If this is coming from my bff like, bf or close friends well I overthink it for the rest of the day. A heart it depends which heart I usually associate the red heart for romance or bff

  • <3 means 'like' in my mind, i dont think it has flirty undertones. Thumbs up just feels very formal.

  • on my phone it gives a thumbs up if you double tap a message. and it gives a heart if you "press like" for the message.

  • hearts for friends' or families posts to show love encouragment or support. its like a like.

thumbs up for anything that needs an affirmative answer or acknowledgement or something to be accomplished and has been done.

  • I see it as friendly, mostly

  • a heart is just friendly, thumbs up comes across a little rude

depends on their typing style but id take a things up over a

    k.

  • Today I gave a heart to an ex colleagues text response about his family doing well. I reached out to wish him happy new year. It just seemed nicer than a thumbs up.

  • 👍🏻 = cool/nice ❤️ = love it/awesome!

  • To me:

    👍 = I agree with this point; that’s a cool thought/idea/picture; or Yes/Noted/Confirm this is the plan.

    ❤️= I love this!; I care about/love you; Awww; or I love this idea/picture/plan

  • Thumbs up feels sarcastic and heart seems sincere. But nothing flirty about either

  • In any context I think reacting to messages is annoying and I wish my phone wouldn’t tell me when someone does.

  • It's entirely up to context and personality. If a person never uses heart emojis but suddenly uses it with one person, it obviously means something, and context explains what (like I know some dudes that bromances with hearts and kisses but never use them otherwise, only with the bros as an example) but it also works in reverse too; if someone is always using heart emojis but don't with you it also means something.

I usually don't assume anything by it when sent to me.

  • Thumbs up is "I saw the information and do not have disagreement", or "Okay". A heart would be "Aww, thanks, cute, you are the best... " etc. Would never use a heart for a colleague I wasn't also friends with and never with men that I am not trying to flirt with. Would just give them a happy emoji.

  • Context dependent, but I tend to use and prefer hearts, because they are more personable. Definitely depends on your relationship with the recipient though. I heart react to my boss and her boss, but generally not their boss. 🤣

  • Hearts are platonic for me. Kissy face would be flirtatious.

  • I give hearts to all the people on my personal cell but my clients— I do thumbs up. It always feels so weird but I feel like your therapist hearting messages also could be misconstrued

  • Depends on context

  • To me the heart is like “yes, I like this thank you” and the thumbs up is more of an acknowledgement that I did see the text and (if applicable) will do whatever is being asked of me

  • ❤️ = they love my reaction

    👍= they agree

  • I heart everything. The thumbs is too formal.

I even heart stuff at work, it’s more of a thank you/acknowledgement of the message.

A lot of social media has the heart as the “like” button so I feel like they are interchangeable

  • A heart is the default on Instagram 🤷🏻‍♀️ I guess hearts on teams tho cause I use thumbs up as a “ok, heard”.

  • I think it depends on the context. Even with friends of the opposite sex, I’ll send a ❤️ if it’s something like a picture of their cat/dog.

  • I don’t read much into emojis unless you’re like 🍆🍑💦

  • Thumbs up = ok/sounds good/confirming I saw the message/plz end this conversation but in a nice way

Heart = OK!/amazing/totally loving this/cute/beautiful/excited/warmly end the conversation/enthusiastic agree or like

  • Depends on who sent it.

  • I absolutely hate 👍. To me it's the equivalent of talking to someone in person and them just responding with a thumbs up and it feels incredibly rude. I have stopped texting certain people because they use that emoji to respond to things 😅 I know they're not meaning to be rude and I don't want to sound like a crazy person and ask them to stop sending it but it really gets under my skin so those people get phone calls instead now 😂

💗 is my most used emoji, by far! 😊

  • Well I think it’s just to say you REALLY like something but it’s not really intimate, flirty or romantic.

  • ♥️ for me means affectionate

👍🏻 more just like "ok" or casual

  • Really depends on context, im a real sucker and would be easily reading too much in to it, and be thinking way too much
