Is it as common as people make it sound like? Do y'all go to them? If you do go to them why such hate for the Romani? I hope none of this is offensive I'm just extremely curious about it.
Oh yeah, just yesterday I went to my witch for some financial advise. We also touched a bit on the current geopolitical situation and the cards said not to worry. Just a regular Saturday. Now I am off to harvest the garlic. It’s vampire season, wouldn’t want to get bitten.
Romania has a big divide between educated and uneducated.
If you're educated and go to a "witch" you better be prepared be made fun of for years to come.
The less educated you are, the more common and accepted it is.
There's a bigger discussion here about culture among ethnic groups, the huge gap in access to education and decent medicine between rural and urban, desperation of the poor and/or sick and the ignorance is bliss factor that comes from the idea that if it's written in the stars, you can't be held accountable.
Most people do not go to witches but you can go. Come to Romania and tell us if you find any witches, I have never seen one. I saw more witches in the UK ( the hipster tarot reading kind that view magic as good thoughts that you put in the world)
There are some people that go to witches. Sometimes to get your fortune read with regular playing cards or tarot cards. Sometimes to ask the witch to cast a spell on you for health, money, good fortune. Or cast a curse on someone who wronged you. There is no evidence any of this works, and all I know is from hearsay. The more popular witches will charge an absurd amount of money for their services. The Roma witches aren't widely accepted because it's considered a scam, and there is a long complicated history between romanians and roma people that leads to generational racism.
We don't hate the Români at all. If you mean the roma people, it is because of the thefts and violence that happened during the 1990-2010, probably motivated by racial hatred against the Romanian gadjo.
Used to be very common like 200 years ago. Nowadays? Its just for stupid, crazy or uneducated people. The most witchcraft you are gonna see on a day to day basis is tarot readings done by teenagers for jiggles during recess.

Nah, not common. Never met a “witch” or someone who went to one.
Sounds like something a witch would say
