I’ll be visiting the city for few days late January and I’m looking for interesting drinks (especially local beers) and dishes I should try.

I found a couple of interesting looking taprooms (Hop Hooligans and Ironic Taproom). Any particularly interesting craft beers you can recommend? Or other drinks.

Local food / restaurant recommendations are also welcome.

  • Hello! Not a local but I've been to Bucharest a fair few times now, easily my most favourite city in Europe.

    Foods:

You need to try Ciorba de burta, Mici, Sarmale, Ciolan. As many barbequed meats, sausages and entrails as you possibly can. They're all absolutely delicious. Get a plate of pickles to go with your meal at every opportunity and start each meal with some țuică.

-Terasa Obor for mici; it's in amongst Piata Obor where you'll find loads of great produce. Best cherries I've ever eaten in my life. You'll need to take a tram or bus to get there but it's worth it imo. If you don't want to travel that far for mici then Fire Pub & Garden in the old town also does amazing mici.

-I'd recommend visiting Caru' cu bere for the dining experience. The venue is amazing and the food is great, I've had the best ciolan in my life here. It's probably equal to what you'd pay for a meal back home; a little on the pricy side for local wages. I make a point to go every time we visit. Taverna Covaci is a cheaper alternative if you're looking for somewhere else that serves Romanian dishes.

-Ou (egg) is a great spot for breakfast/brunch. They have a little back terrace area where you can sit outside underneath some trees. Sun is usually there around midday.

    Drinks in Bucharest:

I'm yet to have a bad beer in Romania in all honesty. Stick to the old town for drinks if this is your first time, yes it's a bit tourist-trappy but you can't really go wrong on Strada Covaci. Fire Pub & GardenNiște Domni și Fiii and Csíki Sör are all solid (touristy) bars that are all within eyeshot of each other.

If you don't want to drink in the old town try Calea Victoriei. Plenty of options.

Awesome! Thank you so much for the tips! I’ll definitely check these out.

  • Courba de burta.

  • Hello, since I'm not from Bucharest I can't help you, but I suggest posting on r/bucuresti as well so more locals can see it, you can post it in English.
