I can’t think of anything in my entire life that I waited so long for with so much hype and hope that then went on to exceed all my expectations so thoroughly.
It’s such a special game. The final battle with Ganon is still peak cinematic boss battle design.
It really is a special game. My dad would play with my brother and I when we were young and still a family. My mom would read the subtitles, and my brother and I would help solve the puzzles.
This was before the days of online guides! So many times my dad had literally no idea where to go, or what to do. It was awesome.
Arkham City is a fucking masterpiece to Batman fans. I bought it on a whim and I can't even guess the amount of hours I sat staring at the screen. Definitely in my top 10 games of all time.
While in my heart, I know Arkham city was the best in the series, I just loved the setting of asylum. The end fight was kinda not great but getting to run around asylum was so much fun.
It's a 20 year old PC game, even if I completely agree that's it's probably the best game ever made. So it automatically has much lower visibility and amount people who played it.
It's the most influential shooter ever made with only Quake being its equal. But HL2 is the superior game.
Played it for the very first time just a couple months ago and it made me mad because it showed me that Kojima actually deserves all the dick riding he gets
I can't get over that it was Nintendo's 1st attempt at a 3D platformer and they nailed it so good it's still arguably the best game of all time. It also aged insanely well.
Minecraft. Me and my childhood friends are all adults with jobs and responsibilities now, but every now and then we get the time to play in a world together. There is something about that game, the music, experiences and overall vibe just makes me reconnect with my past self and with the memories shared between my friends and I.
I was trying to think through all the games I’ve played for an answer here and it always comes back to Minecraft. There’s just so much you can do depending on what mood you’re in
It Will always be Chrono Trigger for me. Looks great. Great music. Great characters. Great villains. Great combat. Great skills. Great endings. Great story.
Mine too. The anxiety of stepping into rapture the first time has yet to be matched. Such a great game. Infinite was good but 1 and 2 were just on a different level
After Midgar and you realize how huge the world is and you’re free to explore it. What an amazing feeling that was after growing up on hyper-linear sides scrollers.
That and the freedom to choose your team of characters, to choose your gear, skills and spells, plus all the cool items and materia you knew was hiding out there for you to find. What a game!
I made the mistake of saving while in the open world map and not playing for a while. When I came back I had no idea what I was suppose to be doing. After running around for a bit and trying to talk to people so I could get back on the mission, I lost interest. I did not make that same mistake with the PS5 version though. I played that one through within the first week.
Naughty Dog's two series and their latest games in both Uncharted 4 and Last of Us 2 have the cleanest and smoothest gunplay of any third person action games, top of the class.
This game was an incredible achievement for it's time and one of the first that gave you the truly open world feeling. The level of detail put in to both design and story was insane. It was a masterpiece.
The only reason anyone has posted anything other than Outer Wilds is because they have not yet played Outer Wilds. (this is my head canon you can not dispute it)
Same. The gameplay is smooth and fun although I wouldn’t say it was revolutionary. But the story, holly shit, it’s as close as you can get to flawless writing. I still watch some cutscenes in YouTube from time to time. I think the ranch scene is my favorite.
“So don’t tell me that I would be safer with someone else cuz the truth is that I would just be more scared”
My all time favorite is probably the Original Jak and Daxter the precursor legacy. I love the trilogy as a whole. Bully is a notable favorite. God Of War 2 & 3 are both up there for me. I adore uncharted 2. Friday the 13th the game is one of my favorite multiplayer games. Arc Raiders currently has a chokehold on me. It’s up there for one of my most played in a short amount of time.
Galaga
I was 6 or 7 (just don’t) and hit my high score at bedtime, was rollin and my parents let me stay up for like an hour later cause I just wouldn’t die. It was glorious and one of the cementing reasons I fell in love with games.
Amazing story and world.
Top notch combat system.
Build variety out the wazoo.
Immaculate drip.
Insane boss fights.
Not the best co-op and pvp systems but they still add alot to the game.
It was and is everything you could want in a fantasy rpg.
Omg, I could go on....
-God of War (alllll of them)
-The Last of Us
-Red Dead Redemption( 1 AND 2)
-The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
-Ghost of Tsushima/Yotei
-Detroit: Become Human
Warcraft 3. The single player campaign is incredible, and the map editor allowed for the greatest custom map scene that has ever existed. The multiplayer was pretty good too and actually very unique to other RTS with its focus on heroes
I remember arcades were packed in the early 90s and you could be on this machine for hours if you were the best, which was almost always being played with Ken/Ryu, sometimes Guile.
Secret of Mana, from my teenage years. There have been lots of games since that one, many of them objectively “better” in so many ways. But that one was mine.
Despite it being a new game, it has absolutely taken the top spot on my list. Its the only game that I've played that I really feel like is a true top to bottom masterpiece.
A few games have extraordinary stories, others have amazing characters, some have outstanding music, or unbelievable visuals.
Expedition 33 has all of them. It’s easily in my top 3 of each different thing that makes me enjoy video games, and #1 for most.
Recency bias be damned. It's Baldur's Gate 3.
It ruined every other RPG for me.
Baldur's Gate 2!!
Correct
Resident Evil 4
Stranguh!!
Whataya bouyin'?
Zelda OoT
Link to the Past for me
I wish they’d go crazy and make Ocarina of time in 2d and Link to the past in 3d
It’s the only game I’ve actually ever completed fully. Got fond memories of playing it in late 98/early 99.
Was my favourite for a long time, probably about 2 decades. Only game to pass it so far is Dark Souls.
Did we just become best friends!?!?
I’ve said this exact sentence to people. OoT was number one of all time until the soulsborne games (BB might be my all time favorite though).
This is also my number 1, with Majora’s Mask, it’s direct sequel being my number 2
Diablo 2
.....this and the original sure were incredibly addictive
The remaster has been so refreshing.
The elder scrolls Morrowind I still think about it
Skyrim
Easy.
Best game ever, to me.
Red dead redemption 2
Oh author.
Hell yeah dude
Came here searching for this. I've played many other great games since then, but RDR2 is on another level entirely...
It’s a cinematic piece of art
Im about to start this one. Been on my list for a while
This person has correct opinions
StarCraft 2
Good choice, but the original with brood war expansion is better imo.
I certainly played that one a lot more than SC2.
SC2 had the better engine and campaign gameplay + co-op, SC1 usually had the better story, sound design, zerg designs especially.
It's too bad they never made a setting for "Classic" unit sounds (voices + sfx)
I still play it regularly!
Arkham City - As a life long Batman fan, it had everything I could have ever wanted.
This game’s theme song fucks
Arkham City is a fucking masterpiece to Batman fans. I bought it on a whim and I can't even guess the amount of hours I sat staring at the screen. Definitely in my top 10 games of all time.
While in my heart, I know Arkham city was the best in the series, I just loved the setting of asylum. The end fight was kinda not great but getting to run around asylum was so much fun.
Half-Life 2
I'm surprised I had to scroll this far to see it listed
It's a 20 year old PC game, even if I completely agree that's it's probably the best game ever made. So it automatically has much lower visibility and amount people who played it.
It's the most influential shooter ever made with only Quake being its equal. But HL2 is the superior game.
Quake and Doom series are right with it.
Diablo 2/LOD. As perfect a game for me as has ever been created.
I have found my people
Metal Gear Solid
Snake Eater really got to me
Snake Eater isn't just one of my favorite games, its also my favorite 007 movie lol
The answer is hiding in plain sight🐍📦
❗️
I could hear this comment
It's just a box
It was just under this cardboard box…
Played it for the very first time just a couple months ago and it made me mad because it showed me that Kojima actually deserves all the dick riding he gets
Age of Empires 2
Scrolled too far for this
Mario 64
I can't get over that it was Nintendo's 1st attempt at a 3D platformer and they nailed it so good it's still arguably the best game of all time. It also aged insanely well.
Witcher 3
Caught me at just the right time in my life that I could sink myself into that game for hours and hours and it was just so good.
Witcher 3? Is that the card game where you ride around on a horse?
Minecraft. Me and my childhood friends are all adults with jobs and responsibilities now, but every now and then we get the time to play in a world together. There is something about that game, the music, experiences and overall vibe just makes me reconnect with my past self and with the memories shared between my friends and I.
I'm 54, I've played games since Pong and Atari 2600. Minecraft is my answer as well. I've spent many a night digging and building.
I was trying to think through all the games I’ve played for an answer here and it always comes back to Minecraft. There’s just so much you can do depending on what mood you’re in
You don't quit Minecraft; you just take breaks.
Chrono trigger and it ain’t even close
It Will always be Chrono Trigger for me. Looks great. Great music. Great characters. Great villains. Great combat. Great skills. Great endings. Great story.
It. Is. Great.
The music, for me, is still better than any modern game. It’s perfection.
It holds up so well and it turned 30 this year. Incredible game
I don't think there's truly such a thing as a "perfect game". But Chrono Trigger is the closest thing we have to it.
This is it.
World of Warcraft. It's had its ups and downs, but I've been playing it for almost 20 years.
The feeling of discover this game in 2004. Nothing can beat this feeling.
This game stole years of my youth around the same time. I loved it
Definitely the best game ever made
WoW from launch through Lich King was my favorite gaming experience of all time. I had to walk away right around Cataclysm.
I tried to come back for a bit when Shadowlands launched, but it didn’t grab me the way it used to.
Scrolled way too far to see this answer.
Probably Red Dead 2. Followed by Horizon Zero Dawn
[deleted]
I read this as if you were talking about C&C Yoshis Island lol
Bioshock
Scrolled WAY too far to find this. Someone else of culture and taste.
Mine too. The anxiety of stepping into rapture the first time has yet to be matched. Such a great game. Infinite was good but 1 and 2 were just on a different level
Mass Effect
Played the trilogy for the first time last year. Knew next to nothing about it. Holy shit. Gotta be one of the greatest gaming experiences I’ve had.
Cyberpunk 2077
Actually playing for the first time now. I didn’t pick it up on release as it was riddled with bugs and also wasn’t sure I would like it.
Then I played Witcher 3 from the same studio and loved it so there was a good chance I was gonna like this as well.
It’s a very close and tough decision between that and Witcher 3 as my all time favourite. Both amazing games.
Runescape
Portal (both of them)
Solid choice
Fallout new vegas
And the great DLCs too.
The best!
GTA San Andreas, the map, the music, the memories.. nothing else comes close
Right now I’m playing GTA 3 again…. Man the MEMORIES 😮💨
Vice City for me
GOLDEN EYE 007
Nintendo 64
Slappers only
No Oddjob
Proximity mines on facility
Gotta go classic. Super Mario Bros. A lot of memories.
Super Mario 3 was the best. They even made a movie about it... The Wizard with Fred Savage
I love the Power Glove. It’s so bad.
Nobody beats Lucas, Lucas ……is awesome !
“Take the secret warp!” When they’re playing Super Mario 3 for the very first time
Tetris
Unreal replay value
Final Fantasy 7
After Midgar and you realize how huge the world is and you’re free to explore it. What an amazing feeling that was after growing up on hyper-linear sides scrollers.
That and the freedom to choose your team of characters, to choose your gear, skills and spells, plus all the cool items and materia you knew was hiding out there for you to find. What a game!

Uncharted 4
Naughty Dog's two series and their latest games in both Uncharted 4 and Last of Us 2 have the cleanest and smoothest gunplay of any third person action games, top of the class.
Halo 3
That and Halo Reach were my entire childhood. So much Infected multiplayer
I remember when it came out I was 12 and my jaw dropping when a scarab showed up early as it was my favourite part of Halo 2 (bridge mission).
Then you have to take on TWO later in the game on a mongoose.
Perfection.
Halo 3 isn't my favorite game.
It was the best.
Morrowind
This game was an incredible achievement for it's time and one of the first that gave you the truly open world feeling. The level of detail put in to both design and story was insane. It was a masterpiece.
I was privileged and tried it by chance when it came out on Xbox. It was a mind blowing experience. It's a little difficult to replay it now
StarCraft
Outer Wilds
This has to be higher.
The only reason anyone has posted anything other than Outer Wilds is because they have not yet played Outer Wilds. (this is my head canon you can not dispute it)
Fallout 4
Hitman 2 silent assassin
Old - Original SNES Mario Kart. The benchmark for fun driving games
Modern - RDR2. Absolutely stunning with great characters
Diablo 2. But that gave way to my most played game path of exile. Diablo 2 created a genre and was masterclass in itemization
Probably call of duty 4. Mostly from all the time playing friends
Persona 5
Ico. I’m old.
Sid Meier's Civilization VI
I have so many favorites but my all time favorite will have to be The Last of us pt 1
Probably stardew valley. If I'm being completely honest with myself. It's just perfect
FF6
Best story. Best characters. Best villain. Best everything for its time.
FF6 and Chrono Trigger are both the best games ever made.

Mike Tyson Punch Out. The best puzzle game of all time.
What an incredible way to describe it. Never thought of it like that before.
Silent Hill 2. I have played the original, the remaster and the remake many times.
Poptropica
My all time favorite is probably the Original Jak and Daxter the precursor legacy. I love the trilogy as a whole. Bully is a notable favorite. God Of War 2 & 3 are both up there for me. I adore uncharted 2. Friday the 13th the game is one of my favorite multiplayer games. Arc Raiders currently has a chokehold on me. It’s up there for one of my most played in a short amount of time.

Burger Time
Galaga I was 6 or 7 (just don’t) and hit my high score at bedtime, was rollin and my parents let me stay up for like an hour later cause I just wouldn’t die. It was glorious and one of the cementing reasons I fell in love with games.
The Last of Us and Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Tie between Mega Man X and any of the Metroid entries (not other M, that one doesn't exist)
Ultima Online
Nothing will ever top the insane amount of hours and laughs that I had playing Borderlands 2 with a couple of friends.
Runescape
Sly 2 is the greatest
Kingdom Come Deliverance
Mass Effect
Banjo-Kazooie
Halo 2
Knight of the Old Republic 2
GTA Vice City.
Bloodborne
Top 3 for me
Elden Ring
Amazing story and world. Top notch combat system. Build variety out the wazoo. Immaculate drip. Insane boss fights. Not the best co-op and pvp systems but they still add alot to the game.
It was and is everything you could want in a fantasy rpg.
Lufia 2, so many memories with that game.
Left 4 Dead 1 & 2, possibly Minecraft.
Omg, I could go on.... -God of War (alllll of them) -The Last of Us -Red Dead Redemption( 1 AND 2) -The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt -Ghost of Tsushima/Yotei -Detroit: Become Human

I cannot pick
FALLOUT 3
🎵 I don't want to set the world on fire 🎵

There are very few games like it, if any. What I would give to experience that game blind for the first time again.
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Tetris
Warcraft 3. The single player campaign is incredible, and the map editor allowed for the greatest custom map scene that has ever existed. The multiplayer was pretty good too and actually very unique to other RTS with its focus on heroes
The Last of Us Part I
The Last Of Us.. Might seem a bit basic but it hit me
Uncharted 4
Street Fighter 2
I remember arcades were packed in the early 90s and you could be on this machine for hours if you were the best, which was almost always being played with Ken/Ryu, sometimes Guile.
The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask.
There's still not anything like it, even over 25 years later
Socom 2. Best gaming memories ever
Outer Wilds. Nothing else like it.
Secret of Mana, from my teenage years. There have been lots of games since that one, many of them objectively “better” in so many ways. But that one was mine.
Tetris. I can always play a game of Tetris.
Disco Elysium
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Goldeneye
Super Mario Bros 3
Nier Automata
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Despite it being a new game, it has absolutely taken the top spot on my list. Its the only game that I've played that I really feel like is a true top to bottom masterpiece.
A few games have extraordinary stories, others have amazing characters, some have outstanding music, or unbelievable visuals.
Expedition 33 has all of them. It’s easily in my top 3 of each different thing that makes me enjoy video games, and #1 for most.
Anno 1800
It's a tie between Rainbow Islands and Red Dad Rdemption 2. Both very different but both equally good in my opinion.
Xenogears. Can't argue with martial arts robots and kinda space opera
Diablo 1 and hellfire
Between destiny 1 and fire emblem path of radiance
Terraria, great community great, dev team, insane modding community and too many good memories with my friends
