Where do you go to just relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city? And, Cry if you need to where no one is around. Or a place that brings good memories?
I personally go to Shirley Chisholm State Park, Sunset Cove Park, Wave Hill or the boardwalk in the Rockaway’s.
The Cloisters in winter time, esp if it snowed and nobody bothers going up there.
Never been there in the snow but that sounds so nice
The funnest time of my childhood was ft tryon park in the blizzard of 96. You just havent lived until youve sledded down a spiral staircase frozen over like a luge. The whole place was like a waterpark but snow
Hasn't snowed like that in NYC for a few seasons now
More like two generations :(
Dude don’t tell everyone 😭
This is the only and best answer!
Maybe silly but I love my apartment so much. I am making it feel as cozy and welcoming and I love spending time in my little nook. If it has to be outdoors, I get on a bike and ride to a new street.
Agreed. Spent so much to make my home cozy, why go anywhere else. Plus, crying in the shower is great.
And we're paying outrageous rent for it. I'm getting my money's worth.
Brooklyn Botanic Garden is so lovely and as long as it’s not a special event is really peaceful. But I prefer to cry on full display on the subway 😂😭
a real goddamn New Yorker right here lol
We have all done it once
That’s right
I miss the BBG! I go to QBG often but NYB has my heart.
I can’t cry on the train 😂 just feels awkward to me. Congrats to those who can!
Bronx botanical garden also an underutilized resource but a lot of people in this sub will unfortunately never make it up here. It’s a ghost town during the week and an exceptionally beautiful place
I think it’s free for all New Yorkers on Wednesdays. I think it’s definitely worth a PTO day. I usually go to Wave Hill right after!
Beautiful thing about NYC is you can cry anywhere 😂
But I’d have to say Central Park.
Last time I cried-today- on the 1 train heading uptown ……
I can’t cry in front of people. I can’t summon tears when people are around 😩
I think I’ve cried more here than I ever have, especially on the train since that’s where I think about my patients who passed away or my son’s grandfather who is nearing the end of life
Pretty much anywhere in Central Park.
crying in public with people around in nyc is a time honored tradition
definitely the rockaways. the ferry to the rockaways (except on summer weekends)
socrates sculpture park is close second
Green-Wood Cemetery. Most of the time it's a positive experience, but there is no better place to cry.
They have a fun tram tour with a lot of great history and info!
Green-Wood Cemetery is serene.
Newtown Creek Nature Walk
Always empty in the winter. And the garbage scows add ambiance. Good shout.
Waverly Diner. I have been going there for 40 years. The place just feels like home.
Inwood hill park
Wouldn’t you like to know, weather boy
I like Marine Park. More specifically the Salt Marsh Nature Trail. It's very peaceful and feels like another world inside of NYC.
Morningside Park and the North Woods and Conservatory Garden in Central Park
my exact places!!
Coney Island, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, New York Hall of Science and the Natural History Museum - basically all my favorite places that I went to when I was growing up - cozy and gives me nostalgic yearning
The Cloisters, Owls Head Park, crossing the Manhattan Bridge!
My apartment. It's 20 years of sourcing and apartment hunting, especially back when it was easier to get vintage stuff for cheap.
Other than that... the Rockaways, Jacob Riis, The Met on a weekday, Prospect Park.
If I really want to be alone... Greenwood Cemetery or that park behind Ikea.
Perhaps the place you are already paying money every month to live in
I’m not counting my apartment! I live on the noisiest street ever and I currently hear my neighbor yelling at someone.
this reminds me of an old apartment where upstairs neighbors would have humongous fights and occasionally entire pots of food would come hurling down the fire escape, spaghetti dripping everywhere like icicles...
My apartment and west side highway early in the morning.
Greenwood Cemetery and Fort Tilden.
Prospect park
My bed…
my local movie theater.
Ikea lol
High key this is my happy place too !
Forest Park
My favorite ramen spot

Sorry thats a bit too personal 🍜
lol
I love Naruto or the classic Ichiran!
Pier 45
Any park near your house
Minetta Tavern
Chelsea
NY or BK botanic garden on a weekday, the marlton hotel, my apartment :)
Gantry State Park
the cafe seating in the Whole Foods at Columbus circle
domino park
Brooklyn Bridge Park for me! Specifically the areas between Pier 3-6.
Waterfront in Domino Park - the skyline always makes me smile and how much I appreciate this life.
Do or Dive
In the spring, summer, fall I had chill days reading my book and listening to music at McCarren Park. I also worked over there, and was treated like royalty. $3 coffee and $8 sandwiches from the hut on discount. :-)
Randall's Island. Good to have a spot far away from transit and requires effort to get to.
Waterfront in LIC
quick question, i've been meaning to do a trip to sunset cove park. is there a bathroom anywhere near there that is convenient?
I have to wake up early so I go to any cafe or even dunkin donuts right at opening and that is my go-to. Never anyone in those places especially if it opens before 6. Gov. island is one of my normal places too. Especially right when they open at 7am it is great.
I don’t recall a bathroom there. I do remember there’s a building in the park but I’m unsure if it’s a bathroom. Sorry!
West side river park.
The Met Museum. I love sitting in favorite sections or looking at a favorite item/artwork and enjoying what’s in front of me.
The park in Tudor City
Jamaica bay wildlife refuge in Broad Channel followed by the Salt Marsh nature center in Marine Park. If I'm on LI the Massepequa preserve.
The bench in Quisqueya Plaza closest to Seaman ave. The other two benches are almost as nice but the closer you get to Broadway, the louder Broadway gets.
Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. You can totally forget you’re in the city, and even find some lonesome places for solitude.
Top of The Rock in the evening. Human Nature in my headphones. Makes me cry and feel blessed. NYC has been a dream of mine since I was a child. Greatest city in the world. Regular visitor and its everything and more I thought. ❤️
Rockefeller Park in BPC.
