the latter have pretty good prices and I’m skeptical of Costco being ”powered by Instacart” since that seems to be one of the shittiest companies around. But I generally like Costco. anyone have experience with their grocery delivery, especially compared to Whole Foods/ Amazon?
Costco over Amazon any day.
I'd rather support Costco than Bezos any day; also happy to pay the price increase, if any. But I think it's negligible.
Unfortunately you do also give money to InstaCart, yes. InstaCart adds a fee per item to make it "free" delivery. With assumed tip on top for the shoper. Also with Costco, you may struggle with having room for all the bulk items.
But you still get the same sales (mostly), and with tip, I think I'm probably paying a premium of around $60 to use InstaCart. But the time savings, having to call an uber, and stress of shopping in person at Costco lol, well worth the price. While I wait for the shopper, I can clean, run errands locally, etc.
I also like that I can actively see what's in my cart and the current total, and remove items that may be just fun purchases. Often, going to Costco in person, my cart is full, and I don't realize I'm spending $400+ until it's too late.
Years ago, it was a simple 12% up charge on Instacart for ordering from Costco. Idk what the percentage diff is now, but I agree with Costco over Amazon
If you have any Chase credit cards you might be able to get Instacart+ for free for a while. Or get $10-20 off your order.
Also if you do Costco be sure to link your membership in Instacart settings to get lower prices on orders from Costco. Executive members also get $10 off on orders over $150 via Instacart. That stacks with any Chase promos too.
Did not know this! Will look into updating my card today
Sometimes the produce goes bad quick. The meat prices stack because it ends up going into the tip. I buy meat and produce local but everything dry goods and pantry I order online from Costco. Key foods is good for both produce and meat. Salmon for us usually 9.99 a pound.
Costco has a nice selection so I do buy meat there for special occasions via Instacart, but this method saves a ton just ordering the 12 packs of almond milk or the fruit pouches/apple sauce online 2 day delivery. Household goods too. The membership is good because it all goes towards a gift certificate for the year. I think we're at 100 bucks atm.
Costco through Costco app. Even though powered by instacart prices and fees are cheaper on Costco App / Website.
Yeah this - on the Costco app look for “Same Day”
Prices are the same via the Instacart app if you just link your Costco membership in account settings
We Instacart Costco a lot. Never had an issue.
BJ/Costco delivery only worth it if you doing a big order in bulk imo
Amazon/Whole Foods for smaller groceries orders
I do Amazon delivery for most of my grocery items since they have more selection than Key Food, etc. I go to Aldi/Lidl for produce and meat. Costco for bulk household items and packaged food.
I currently use FreshDirect. Any feedback re FD vs. Costco grocery? My neighbor shared their Costco membership number with me so that I can use it online.
I use instacart for Costco and Aldi delivery even with the fees and tip it still saves me money and so much time. Ive been using instacart for years and rarely have a bad experience.
worth noting that in some markets uber eats will deliver from Costco now
I'm a BJs and Costco member; once you factor in the inflated delivery prices, it's really not worth buying from Costco. With BJs I pay $100/year (this is in addition to the yearly membership) which includes as many deliveries as I want with no increase in price other than driver tip.
I think it is like a 8-10% up charge on everything using Instacart premium. I compared the price of chicken breasts in store with the online price. Still the cheapest chicken breasts and olive oil around
i like getting more groceries from amazon. they're very cheap and i've never had a quality issue. the lower cost (compared to the WF, trader joes, and mortons near me) easily makes up for the delivery tip
it still surprises me how NYC doesnt have huge competition for the grocery delivery market. i wouldve thought major chains like trader joes, target, etc would jump at the opportunity to tap a market like NYC without NYC rent (ie, their warehouse is outside the city, and drivers deliver in the city). i lived in london and was spoiled for choice for grocery delivery there - tesco, sainsburys, ocado, iceland, asda, morrisons, amazon, and those are just the cheap ones!
I do BJs deliver and any issue I've ever had is on the store side not the driver side. They also use insta cart.
