No they're not meant to be crunchy. You used to see flap Jack's in the pastry section where you'd get jam doughnuts and croissants but I haven't seen them there in my local supermarkets for a while. I think they're gone out of fashion. The flahavans ones are terrible. I reckon it's just so they have a longer shelf life.
Tesco used to have great flapjacks but I’m not sure they do them anymore. However, I’m not American so I’m not sure what the correct consistency of flapjacks should be.

Those flahavans ones are not flapjacks. I don't know why they are calling them flapjacks when they are so clearly crunchy biscuits. A flapjacks is meant to be soft and chewy, not a dry husk.

It depends on the recipe; I've had all sorts of textures. The Flavavins are crunchy but excellent with tea when hiking.
They should be pretty much the same. FWIW British flapjacks can be dry and crunchy too - the mass produced ones tend to be softer though.
Ideally, you want somewhere in between. Not solid and dry, but not greasy mush either.
I always remembered them to be soft/chewy on the inside. I did similar, had a craving and bought the Flahavans ones. They were like eating sawdust.

I agree OP they are more like granola bars. The Tracker bars are more like what you’re talking about.

I like mine medium density. Heavy on the flap, light on the jack.
The Graze ones are the best 👌
Lidl had the best ones for a while in their bakery, but havnt found them in a while. They were soft and a little moist. If you ever see them, try one.
Shocking aren’t they. Crumbs go everywhere too.
They're the same in Ireland and the UK. The best commercial ones are the Ma Baker Giant bars. The pistachio one is unreal.
