Any suggestions on the best toothpaste to whiten teeth? I know across the pond you can get the crest teeth whitening strips but I haven't found ones here that are as good. I brush 3 times daily but I'm a big coffee drinker and I've started to notice my teeth are not as white as they were.

Probably worth mentioning I can't get laser whitening as I'm currently pregnant (most of the coffees have been decaf lol).

  • Honestly the whitening toothpastes are mostly marketing bs but Sensodyne Pronamel Gentle Whitening is decent enough and won't wreck your enamel like some of the harsher ones

  • Got my teeth cleaned recently and they had like a teeth blaster cleaning tool. Felt like a Karcher power washer, really cleaned the coffee / tea stains and teeth are so white since. Also got a new toothbrush an oral b io it’s so good. Using Colgate max fresh with crystals. Buy it in mr price super cheap. If you have a retainer / mould for your teeth can get the teeth whitening gel and I believe there’s an Irish brand that does pregnancy safe toothpaste spotlight oral care perhaps could use this and maybe another brand that’s safe ?

Where can you get the teeth whitening gel for the moulds?

I buy ‘pola night’ off my dentist for €35 a vial. Or you can buy boutique teeth whitening gel or this company sell boutique whitening gel

I got teeth whitening done about 9 yrs ago at my dentist, they made molds of my teeth. It was a great investment, as my teeth were quite stained from coffee and as a former smoker. I top up with Pola night st home ysing the retainers maybe 3 times a year now and would highly recommend. I had laser whitening done before that and it made v little if any difference

Me too laser did nothing for me and hurt. I use the pola night a couple times a year for 2-3 days and it lasts good bit. I get my teeth cleaned professionally with a hygienist twice a year because I have a retainer bar top and bottom from Invisalign so I have to or the tartar builds up around the bar

You can buy them from the dentist, a vial should be approx €15

lol what dentist you going to? €35 at mine

I work there so not saying it on here, €15 is what we charge our patients per vial/syringe. It's also boutique whitening

Wow ok the brand I buy from my dentist is ‘pola night’ it is very good but they definitely are over charging for it

We used to sell that but if I remember right it came in a normal size that we charged €15 and the larger size we charged €20 for but that was a couple of years ago. I’m sure our prices for it will go up soon as they have been the same for nearly 10 years for it

Yeah that makes sense. The vial I buy is definitely on the larger side and I get a good while out of it plus it really does work. Well worth it

How much does it cost to get them cleaned professionally? Considering it myself but I heard it can be pricey.

I paid €90. Your PRSI covers one visit a year but it’s never €0. I paid just €30 with PRSI contributions in the hygienist place and €15 with my PRSI contributions at my own dentist to clean them but unfortunately they just don’t do a good job at all cleaning. Too lazy I feel and barely cleaned my teeth properly around my retainer bars. Paid thousands for Invisalign so it really is worth it to go to a proper hygienist to get your teeth cleaned. Isn’t pricey if you look at cost of dental crows / root canals. A good clean under €100 is a bargain imo.

  • There’s a great USA website called dentist.net - that’s where we get our Crest whitening strips but it’s the stronger peroxide ones. If you register the send you out 15-20% off codes. Have used this site for years so it’s legit.

Of course you can also use euracryl dental powder. Very good for coffee drinkers and smokers

You can just buy them on Amazon

I bought them on the crest website

Yeah but I think that means you aren't getting the chemical goodness that comes in the American ones that makes them turn teeth white as in the EU they sell weakass nonsense ones that don't do very much.

  • The purple reveal one is decent my teeth are way more white since using it regularly and I drink a lot of espresso and smoke.

    Which brand is that?

    Colgate, in a red box

Colgate it’s sometimes on special in dunnes, genuinely find it great!

Thanks. I’ll watch out for it.

  • Just to note, be careful what one you go for, alot have ingredients not considered safe when pregnant and even have signage to say to avoid when pregnant.

Completely agree, I wouldn't be using any of these while pregnant

  • Whitening toothpaste does not work. To whiten your teeth you need to either go to the dentist and get a whitening trays or go and get whitening strips from the chemist. to whiten teeth has to contain hydrogen peroxide and anything that says it doesn’t contain that ingredient is a waste of money. Btw I work in dentistry and have done for 39years .

You can get toothpaste with hydrogen peroxide. I just used Spotlight today

Yes but it doesn't contain enough to whiten teeth

Thoughts on Nano Hydroxyapatite toothpaste (Boka) for whitening, as someone working in dentistry?

Toothpaste does not contain enough hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth, it can help already whiten teeth stat whiter longer . A lot of toothpaste that don't contain hydrogen peroxide and claims to whiten are abrasive and can damage the tooth enamel if used regularly . The best and only way to actually whiten your natural teeth is with whitening trays and gel or use the strips but they won't whiten as much as the gel.

  • Oral B 3D White

  • Honestly, the best treatment for teeth whitening is cleaning. Even bleaching can’t turn your teeth whiter than their natural colour. Floss every day, use a water flosser few times a week (it’s not a replacement for regular flossing). Use an electric toothbrush twice a day. Get your free dentist cleanings (they’ll be minimal and painless if you actually floss). This is the key to naturally white teeth

It's sort of odd that so many people don't know that dental cleaning every 6 months should be part of your routine.

Lot of people don’t want to pay for it. In my experience if I don’t get my teeth cleaned twice a year then I run into problems. Have had 2 root canals, dental crown and many many fillings as I didn’t receive dental treatment as a child.

That’s the only preventative thing I can do outside of flossing twice sometimes three times a day and I use interdental brushes , electric toothbrush and rinses.

  • Arm and Hammer. Old but gold

Yeah i use this along with an electric toothbrush

  • I have a few friends that swear by the crest whitening toothpaste if you know of anyone going the US. People always ask me to bring them some back when I go there, they’re about $14 for a 3 pack.

You can also buy from target and get it shipped through addresspal.

Costco in the US sells 5 packs of massive tubes. Last months.

You can get them on Amazon shipped to your regular address, I’ve done it at least 4 times

Are they the same strength for peroxide? I had no idea you could get them on Amazon

Not sure, I get the 3d ones and I find them extremely effective. My partner had really bad, deep stains so his dentist recommended them and they even worked for him.

Well the Amazon ones worked a trick either way. Not sure why anyone felt the need to downvote me, was just sharing my experience.

  • Yeah turns out it has no floride

It’s the only toothpaste that actually makes my teeth feel clean 😭

That stuff is actually is bad for you, if you put it into the yuko app or whatever it’s called it’s 0/100 😅

Yuko app is mainly bullshit btw

Ahahahahah ah well been using it for the last 9 years I’d say apologies it’s the only toothpaste I would buy 🤣🤣

  • You can order crest white strips online on Amazon.com. I would recommend an enamel strengthening toothpaste like OralB pro expert advanced enamel repair or something similar with an electric toothbrush if you’re going to whiten.

Most whitening toothpastes are either marketing gimmicks that have heavy blue/purple colouring agents which tricks your eyes into thinking your teeth are whiter than they are until the colour washes away within 30 mins or so or, they contain harsh abrasives which while they do aid in removing surface stains, they also damage enamel and can cause sensitivity over time.

I’m also a big black coffee drinker and I switched to drinking it with a straw aimed as close to the back of my mouth as possible so the coffee is in less direct contact with my front teeth which helped a lot. I also rinse my mouth with water after drinking my coffee and brush about 30 mins after I’ve drank it, you need to give your mouth pH time to come back up after drinking the coffee because when your mouth is acidic your teeth are more at risk of being damaged from brushing.

Our dentist actually recommended these to my partner as a way to save money when he was having a lot of cosmetic work done, they’re unreal!

  • Rembrandt toothpaste - probably the best. If you want a Hollywood smile though you’ll need veneers and crowns €€€.

  • Oral B 3d white has worked insanely well for me

This and the whitening toothbrush head for the electric toothbrush helped reduce a lot of staining for me, which if coffee is the cause may help reduce some of that.

  • Be careful because a lot of whitening things work by abrasion on your enamel, which does technically make them look whiter but is quite bad for your teeth long term.

  • Make a paste with bread soda and wash your teeth with that. Works wonders, just doesn't taste nice

Wait just regular bread soda ? I’d heard coconut oil pulling but I hate the taste

  • You can order the crest whitestrips online

  • Get a professional cleaning from a dentist. You should be doing that regularly anyway since plaque formations won't come off with just normal brushing.

  • Eucryl toothpowder. Should be able to buy in any Boots

  • Miswak - natures toothbrush 🪾 If you actually use it regularly your teeth are going to be nice and healthy

  • I use Colgate Max White Ultimate Renewal Whitening Toothpaste. It's on sale at 15 euro, so it's not cheap but honestly, I've always had yellow teeth and this does a great job.

  • Marvis, the whitening one.

  • There isn't any toothpaste available within the EU that will whiten your teeth because the levels of hydrogen peroxide and other whitening agents that are allowed are far too low to be effective in any noticeable way.

  • Crest 3D white. No other toothpaste is as good

  • Sensodyne is yer man! Oral B is crap

  • Do you floss too? I've found that helped my smile a bit.

  • Order the whitening strips from amazon US!

  • Unsure if pregnancy safe but Eucryl powder at one of your brushes would sort you right out.

  • I’m a big coffee drinker and I find Spotlight’s whitening toothpaste good for keeping coffee stains at bay!

  • Oral B 3D white is good but if I use it for more than 3 days I get terribly sensitive teeth

  • Best option is to go get the gel and teeth mold. You put it on for two weeks, hurts a lot but sucks all the yellow out. I got it when I was like 20 and still going strong at 28. South Dublin Dental is where I got it.

About 80 for the gel, custom mold is about 150 or something

  • Order Colgate Optic White 5% from amazon US, best thing ever.

  • I don't think there's any toothpaste you can buy in a shop that would make any meaningful difference.

You're better off just getting trays made and buy some whitening gel online.

I used Happy Smile UK but they don't deliver to Ireland. They offer custom made ones where they send you some putty to bite into and they make the tray from that, and also a DIY one that just uses heat to shape it.

    https://crownteethwhitening.ie/product/moldable-dental-teeth-whitening-trays-upper-lower/

These guys seem to offer the DIY one. Might be worth a shot.

  • Clinomyn Smoker’s Toothpaste. Tried it when it was in Tesco and was shocked how well it worked. Probably get it in a pharmacy.

  • I found the Pearl Drops ones excellent

  • Search Amazon US and you can buy crest strips, toothpaste etc on there. It includes taxes and duties at check out so no hidden fees on you when the goods are being delivered to Ireland.

  • My dentist recommended the crest whitening strips and to get them through adverts.ie

  • Dentist here. Toothpastes and mouthwashes can't whiten teeth. They can just about remove stains. Couple of things

Sensodyne and pronamel don't contain detergent. Therefore stain build ups happen much faster. Colgate total is as good as it gets, but as long as there's fluoride in them there's little difference.

Anything over the counter that markets itself as whitening doesn't whiten teeth. The EU strictly limits OTC hydrogen peroxide strengths to a max of 0.1%. The weakest one I prescribe is about 3.3%, literally 33 times stronger. Research shows whitening with 0.1% daily has next to zero benefit. The 3.3% hydrogen peroxide (equivalent to 10% carbamide peroxide) is the basic standard.

While you are pregnant we are not allowed to provide whitening treatments with peroxide, and this carries through if you decide to breast feed.

Enjoy your pregnancy, best wishes through it all and the best advice I'd give is to make sure you floss daily.

Spotlight toothpaste is 0.01% peroxide. Is this a token amount just to claim whitening?

  • I ordered the pack from colorwheelproducts.com and have been impressed. Comes with a toothpaste, a mouthwash and a pen. Bit pricey, but I think worth it.

  • You can get the crest strips from advanced whitening

  • You can buy Crest toothpaste on Amazon. It works better for me than any "whitening" toothpaste I could buy here.

  • I really like colgate max white, but what has made the biggest difference for me is switching to an electric toothbrush, it cleans your teeth so much better

  • Mix the bicarbonate of soda with a little hydrogen peroxide (3%) you can get it in the chemist. Make a paste, brush your teeth, rinse well, you’ll see a difference soon enough.

  • Swish a bit of hydrogen peroxide in your mouth a few times a week. White teeth and healthy gums (not medical advice, you can hurt your gums with this but it does work)

  • Don't eat junk, brush, Floss, your teeth are a mirror of what you eat,

I mean I work in an office full of bad cake and sweets but I find if I am consistent, cleaning, It's OK,

Tea and coffee are a much bigger cause of teeth yellowing than cakes and sweets. Most people aren’t going to give up their tea or coffee. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes, rinse with water after tea and coffee
