I have a chronic condition that causes damaged hair and some hair loss in patches when I get a flair. Last hairdresser I went to commented on the poor condition of my hair, even after I had explained my situation. First World problems I know, but I genuinely felt like crying and felt really down about myself afterwards. Haven't been to a hairdresser in a few years because of it. Really want to get a few highlights now, so was wondering if anyone would have a recommendation for a hairdresser who is kind - and experienced in working with people with "poor" hair? TIA
That hairdresser sounds like an absolute weapon, sorry you had to deal with that. Check out The Hair Gallery on Grafton Street - went there when my hair was wrecked from chemo and they were brilliant, no judgment at all and made me feel human again
Thanks so much 🙏
I've always found Aveda hair stylists very gentle and understanding, I have arthritis so can have weeks where I can't brush my hair. They've always been great for colouring too.
I'm on new medication for about 5 months and my hair has stopped falling out and is growing back in. Yay!
Thanks for that. Great about your hair!

Ines is the best around. She'll mind you x
Wendy and Rachel in the "Ultimate Hair & Beauty" in the GPO Arcade have been saints to me!
Thanks! 🙏
I found the staff at Queer Hawk super nice and empathic with their customers, but I would only do my hair with the owner if we're talking technical skills. I also recommend Mar from The Studio, they're so so so nice and the salon is so cozy and welcoming. Them and The staff are great hair dressers!. It's in Ranelagh.
Second Queer Hawk!
Thanks!
Every hairdresser I've been to has insulted my hair and made me feel bad. Sorry I can't recommend one - maybe it's standard to be insulted by hairdressers?
Until puberty I got compliments. "Lovely thick hair". Since then it's 3 decades of hearing how thin my hair is
Ya I know
Barber: You know your hair is thinning.
Me: Well fucking hurry up then.
I'm 39 and stopped entirely about five years ago. I've lived in multiple cities and towns in Ireland, multiple hairdressers, and every single one just went on and on and on about how fine and thin my hair was. Even when they thought they were being nice, it was just so unnecessary. It's a scissors and my own bathroom now!
I feel you. I would just love a hairdresser where they wouldn't make unnecessary comments. Very hurtful.
I bet it's not even very fine or very thin. I watch videos on "how to cut fine thin hair" and 99% of the time the person's hair is fairly thick, thick enough they can even do layers! That's why a lot of hairdressers think they can layer whatever hair they want and that not layering thin hair is a myth, and destroy your hair, because they tell all these people with fairly thick hair that they have thin hair
Maybe not exactly what you’re after but have a look online at Trua Clinic, Claire Fulham is the Trichologist there.
