I've lost a tone of weight, been low carb for years now, feel fantastic almost all the time compared to what I did before. I don't push my low carb diet in peoples faces I just eat it but of course people start to notice it over a while. Anyway yesterday a newer coworker said it after she noticed me eating a large omelette i made with avocado, spinach and tuna and cheese and variations of this although with different meats is what she has noticed me eat for lunch for the past month. I just think its sad and hilarious at the same time people like this are eating literal junk en masse and are trying to tell you that your eating is bad.
Firstly, yes, they are the most judgemental. My partner worked for an entire company of people like this. They told him his salads would make him malnourished while downing boxes of donuts daily. Once I made chocolate brownies using black beans and dates for sweetness for him to bring in, it tasted like the real thing. They scoffed it down and then freaked when he told them it was "healthy". Secondly, can you post that omelette recipe please. It sounds amazing.
Im gonna need that brownie recipe tho
Same đ
Haha, I'll have a look for it.
Lmao the irony is unreal - someone washing down a Mars bar with Lucozade giving health advice is peak comedy
The audacity of people never fails to amaze me, like maybe worry about your own breakfast roll situation first
It happens all the time. I donât drink, on a company night out, I had a girl tell me how terrible a red bull was for me, cigarette in 1 hand, red wine in the other. I just agreed.
Usually on nights out I get lucozade in a pint glass with ice, people assume its cider and leave me alone.
Jealousy because they lack self control . Look at my body and look at yours
Yeah, I agree. They're probably trying to excuse their own failure at trying to eat well.
My friends ex would berate her for eating bread. Turns out the same fella was sniffing coke every weekend. Iâm slow to listen to diet advice from others, I have my own preferences and my own goals.
Hilarious
People who comment on what other people eat in any capacity have bad boundaries and bad manners and should just quit it.
Agreed itâs such bad manners. Mind your own business
Exactly this!
People saying you shouldn't have eggs and coffee for breakfast while they're slugging a can of monster is my favourite
When I was the skinniest person in the office I used to have the fat wans screeching at me how many calories were in my afternoon Mars bar. Used to drive me mad, like worry about yourself, I have a high metabolism. Now I'm more their age I wouldn't dream of poking my nose into what some young wan eats, it's so rude.Â
"Two eggs?? Thats an awful lot of cholesterol" said a wan in my office who went on to sink a chicken fillet roll and a share bag of crisps. Crazy
This is literally comical
honestly, I can't imagine why I'd even spend my time thinking about what someone else is eating? There are so many more interesting things to think about? Like unless the though is "damn that looks good where did you get it/what's the recipe" then it's not worth the brain cells.
It's jealousy and insecurity, it's that simple. They put you down to make themselves feel better.
Very common projection of their own worse fears.. or just dumb dumbs.
There is a generation that believes eggs and real butter directly cause heart attacks. For a long time, they ate margarine made with hydrogenated oils instead. Hydrogenated oil is so bad that itâs even banned in the USA.
It's usually a defensive coping mechanism. If you are faced with someone who is a peer, taking positive actions, it's sometimes easier to look for faults in the approach than to take notes and implement real change.
Agreed. We know that eating highly processed foods changes your brain chemistry, making you crave more and more. So, when they consider stopping their "drug", I think panic sets in. Then they flail around, desperately searching for any way to defend their addiction.
And it's unconscious, which is the tricky part. In their mind, they are eating "normally"; you are the one who is eating "abnormally" (and to be fair, they are unfortunately correct, because most people are not aware of the food they consume).
I find something like "Well, everyone is different, this works for me, but I wouldn't recommend that everyone do it. That way, you pacify their negative feelings, while also sharing that you aren't preaching anything - I find that way, people usually calm down about it and in some cases, they ask more about it.
Your diet is yours - the problem is that a lot of people today want people to adopt their approach to life (be it religion, political views, lifestyle choices, etc.), and the unfortunate offshoot of that is that people think that you want people to adopt your diet, which is one corner where these negatives come from.
100% this - also people prefer to think change/helping themselves is impossible, itâs easier that way
I stopped drinking and it really annoyed some people.
Oh my god that triggers people SO BAD
Was literally told I have an eating disorder on this sub yesterday because I said I skip breakfast and eat low carb. They said I need to sit down with their dietician to explain how unhealthy I am. Then blocked me when I said "projecting much?"
I often had this discussion about meat substitute products. Someone telling me they'd never eat that processed stuff while eating ANY other processed food no problem is really out there
I do prolonged fasting regularly (between 24 hours to 5 days) and am always told by people who haven't a clue on the subject that it's bad for me, which I find hilarious, because that couldnt be further from the truth. Rule #1 of fasting is not to tell anyone you're fasting, same goes for any other dietary decisions you may make; its your house, how you choose to run it is noone else's business. Simple as.
People who comment on other people's food/diet in a critical way are usually always deeply insecure about their own choices and control over their lives. If you wouldn't take advice from them, don't take criticism from them to heart either.Â
Well done on what you've achieved so far!
I get more annoyed that people at work complain they can't lose weight whilst eating and drinking shite. I stay at a healthy weight because I eat well. If I ate with no discipline I'd be a fat fuck.
Halloween and Christmas kill me with all the sweets and chocolate at work.
I'm not on a weight loss diet, I'm vegetarian though. It's been 17 years now.
My family kept telling me how I'm gonna break in half and have all kinds of problems from vitamin deficiencies and lack of protein.
My blood results: Perfect, bit low ferritin at times, but nothing super concerning. Generally healthy. Quite muscular. Doing sports.
My parents:
> Vitamin D so low they had to get some turbo dose pills for that and advised to check monthly
> Vitamin B12 so low they had to get injections
> Some crazy high cholesterol
> 3 heart attacks before the age of 55
I'm not the type of vegetarian who will yeet your sausage roll out the window screaming that you're a cruel person. I don't give a fuck tbh. It's just funny how they were warning me so much about how I'm gonna be in the hospital every few months for deficiencies yet I'm completely fine and they are begged by doctors to limit their meat consumption.
I'm trying to follow a diet, but I'd go N-U-T-S trying to do without meat; I get most of our beef, chicken, lamb, or fish direct from the local butcher.
Ever since an experiment with supermarket mince where it yielded an entire mug of fat, I don't trust their packaging anymore...
Yes supermarket mince is truly gross
Oh, just to clarify, by "packaging" I mean the box/tray saying something like "only 5% fat"
Yes I agree.
I have raised 3 kids to young adulthood who are vegetarian since birth.
My son has plenty of lean muscle and is 6'1" and 170lbs/77kg, my daughter is slender but strong and is 5'9" and our "short" girl is a very lean fighting machine at 5"6. A vegetarian diet can be very healthy. We don't push our beliefs on anyone but some people asked me questions all the time when they were growing up, wanting me to "defend" vegetarianism!
But WHAT do they eat??! They won't grow!
I used to list out things but then thought why the fuck am I doing this?!
So I just told them to go ahead and do a Google search or read a book on nutrition, since they were interested. Not my job to educate ignorant people!
(I've been vegetarian for 35 years).
Do you eat dairy and eggs and fish
If they were eating lots of meat then they would have plenty B12, your story doesn't make sense
Technically, yeah, but I think it's about something else that blocks absorption maybe? Not sure lol
People are always offended by what others eat when itâs different to what they eat. Whether that be low carb or keto or more ideological like veg or vegan or even just a healthy balanced regular diet.
No one wants anyoneâs opinion on their diet unless they ask for it. The most I would comment is to ask what something is if it looks nice so I can make it myself. I havenât own ideas and opinions about different ways of eating but I keep them to myself.
I have a gluten allergy so I tend to eat fairly healthy & make my own lunches most of the times and itâs a lot of salads etc because options can be limited for what I can get outside.
I got told by one of my previous colleagues that I âate weird stuffâ just because it was gluten free & healthy and she never saw the inside of a lettuce.
She was your classic microwave ready meal for lunch person and about 3 red bulls a day yet she felt the need to comment on my choices which were for legitimate health reasons.
People love to judge anyone who is slightly different than them here.
Funniest one to me is someone in terrible shape saying âlad if youâre in the gym you have to eat meat to build muscleâ⌠Iâm vegetarian, and Iâm jacked.

Thatâs insane your meal sounds healthy and delicious
I would actually love to know what the psychology is behind this.
I donât drink, and havenât done for quite some time, and I track all my meals.
I donât wear a âfitness lifestyleâ branding on my sleeve, but I guess Iâm actually very fitness conscious (in comparison to most).
The amount of questions I get on both topics is insane. I feel it comes from a cognitive dissonance based around what people feel they should be doing, but donât.
I havenât always lived like this, so I do try take it as genuine curiosity - but those that speak down to me about either topic usually get shut down fairly quickly.
Its their own internalised shame coming up as criticism for someone else doing the thing they know they should be doing but for some reason they cant. It makes them feel morally wrong because you've displayed the habits and behaviours they desire. I used to deal with this in office all the time. One guy (its always men) was convinced a wrap was 100 calories and i automatically replied back no they are 180 calories (because I used my fitness pal for years) he was totally enraged and convinced I was wrong until he looked it up. Weird behaviour.
This person was concerned that your homemade omelette was going to cause a heart attack?? People should not comment on other peopleâs diet or body full stop. Even if you are the healthiest person on earth itâs not your place. If people have health issues thatâs between them and their doctor.
Diets are a sensitive thing. Obviously, if youâre really skinny you need to up your calorie intake whereas if youâre overweight you need to cut your calorie intake. The issue is that people are basing whatâs underweight and overweight based on their own bodies, emotions and social circle rather than objective measures ie BMI, body fat percentage etc.
If youâve always been fat your whole life, your family and friends are fat and youâre conditioned to think scoffing 5000 calories a day is normal, your perception is going to be skewed. You may or may not realise that you need to lose a few lbs but youâll definitely underestimate how much and whatâs a normal amount of food. In your mind youâre not that heavy which is made worse by your social circle validating this viewpoint. Someone half your size eating a fraction of what you eat probably looks like anorexia to them. The flip is also true for people who are underweight viewing those around them eating normally
Bottom line as long as youâre within healthy ranges donât mind what they say.
Yea I noticed it a bit. People really watch what others eat.
Next time something sweet like a cake or buns or chocolate is passed around an office. Just say no initially. Someone will say ah go on. Or live a little. Or something to that effect.
Yeah this is why I no longer discuss diets/recipes/ carnivore / keto/ low carb at work.
People love to comment on what youâre having or ask you. I now just say âthatâs all I had at homeâ or âI just like trying out different thingsâ.
I no longer engage with people who think eating chicken rolls, crisps, chocolate and fizzy drinks every day for lunch is healthier than me having a steak salad etc⌠brain dead
Also ânoâ or âno thanksâ is a complete sentence. When Iâm offered something in work that is ultra processed food or junk I donât want. Itâs my body my choice. Seems to apply for all things these days except what you put in it⌠according to some people anyway.
You should have said âno hun, I think itâs yourself thatâs going to have the heart attackâ
And walked away with your salad
Crab mentality - ignore
Eating well and being healthy? That stuff is for gobshites.
The HA talk about Breakfast Rolls is nonsense and is a common thought on Irish reddit have noticed.
Been eating them for a decade every few months on occasion.
Itâs okay to have treats if your not eating them everyday/week.
And with that you could still eat lotâs of carbs and not get sick or put on weight if you are exercising regularly and burning off calories.
The people who end up unhealthy and with health issues do not have Balence in their diet/lifestyle and over consume and on top of which are also smoking and drinking.
Good on you for dieting and prioritising health but felt the need to say that.
Now assuming the colleague is having treats every day/week and not much else then thatâs obviously a negative.
Everybody who dispenses unsolicited advice is a prick. Usually middle-aged or older men who don't get listened to at home, because their wives and kids are sick of their shit
Friend of mine always says to me being allergic to gluten isn't real, but eats terrible and has scriossis all over his body that goes away when he eats clean.
My in laws think my diet is âweirdâ and make jokes about rabbit food etc etc so I can totally relate.
The proof is in the pudding, if youâre feeling good and confident in your skin then what youâre doing is brilliant.
Honestly, most people are uneducated when it comes to food and probably a bit envious that you have the desire or discipline to eat well.
People who criticise others about anything are projecting their own insecurities.
Once you understand it it's like a window into their soul you can exploit :D
I have an issue with low carb diets because they are of high environmental impact, other than that I don't comment on other people's low carb diets until they tell me I should eat less of this simple and delicious food that bread is.Â
After awhile you'll just learn to do what you do and ignore the noise.
If I was having that sort of hot food, I'd try to have cooked it myself; and no Lucozade either - tea with a dash of white sugar.
It's just that good old Irish trait we have of knocking the wind out of people's sails. You'll often see it, you put on a bit of weight, people will say stuff to ya. If you lose weight, they'll just find more things to say to ya. Unfortunately, it's just the way people are.
Fair play to ya for losing the weight OP. Don't pass any mind on them đŞ
Good old crab in bucket syndrome.
Could be an Irish thing. Every place Iâve worked people have commented on what I eat - which is normally not rubbish
Im sorry my father made that comment to you.. đ¤Ł
Normal enough, unfortunately. I work in a service for vulnerable people, the clients packed lunches are appalling but if you mention it, people get very pissed off. Staff eat crap so I guess we can't expect our clients to do any better.
Im by no definition a healthy eater but I would never try to tell someone else that theyâre going to get a heart attack from what theyâre eating, because for one im not a dietitian and im not on the clock and two id be a hypocrite. A lot of people make themselves feel better by tearing others down
Makes them feel better about their shitty habits lol. My whole family is fat and doesn't approve of my eating habits. You know when you don't know what to cook, so you just put a pot of water on while figuring out what to put in it? Well my mother puts a pot of oil on when she's in that situation. It shows them their weakness of giving in to unhealthy stuff and what could've been if they didn't, and that's how they vent - just my theory lol
My co-workers don't ever criticize what I eat because I know more than any of them about the nutrition and they've learned that the hard way (I bombard them dead with the facts, and science you know hugh). Anyway,
what pisses me off more is the comment "you go to the gym regularly, how come you aren't skinny yet" (I'm normal weight btw). Sure, I can go on the rant about muscle mass and bone mass and flexibility, balance, endurace, longevity, etc, but oh whatever, why would I bother at this point, I just say "I'm planning to die healthy in my sleep when I'm 85yo, just go to sleep and never wake up. And what's your plan? Being bedbound for the last decade of your life?" That shuts them up well too. It's fun but probably not the best way to make friends...
If you really want to send them over the edge, try being the office person who fasts, all I get is how Iâm going to die if I donât eat. Bish step off it none of your bidness.
I never seen anyone get as triggered as when you mention a fast. Like they canât comprehend not eating for a few hours and they grazing all day long munching on some shite or other
Why donât you want doughnuts for the charity day? Why wonât you have the pizza lunch itâs free? Lads I care not for your free food, I am choosing to love myself differently to how you choose to live yourself. I blame the famine has everyone terrified to miss a meal đ
One of my friends does fasting and changed his diet and he lost loads of weight. But he told me his co-workers all criticise his diet and find the healthy foods be brings in weird. They're all there eating their carb loaded chicken rolls and tayto then lol.
I've had the same with regards excercise, my cousin incredibly overweight commented on my physique stating did I not run all the time why was I carrying any weight, I simply asked if he had mirrors in his house and told him to fuck off. Granted I had put on a few after taking time off after a marathon but was by no means obese.. People can be right shits putting their insecurities on you.
Joe Wicks and Van Tullecken did a Channel 4 show called "Killer" where they showed the actual ingredients in some of these processed bars. Especially "health bars" marketed as being healthy due to added protein. (Huel etc).
These bars are basically 100% crap, with the exception of a tiny amount of Cacao. Gums, Sweeteners, Dyes, Thickeners, Stabilisers. Shite that binds synthetic fats and water together. All wrapped in chocolate and with added flavourings. All linked in statistical studies to various health problems and a general, continuous "inflammation" of the digestive system.
I think the food industry is really now, where the tobacco industry was decades ago before people realized the harmful effects of smoking. A step change is on the horizon but isn't there yet.
I find it funny that people seem quicker to judge the quality of tap water but won't bat an eyelid over shite that's in their shopping bags. Power of marketing?
Cheap food is cheap for a reason. It's edible substances, it's not food in a more traditional sense.
Interesting you said food is now where the tobacco industry was decades ago. Major tobacco companies had diversified into food companies from the 1960âs, from what I can find now that has ended in the early 2000âs but thatâs with the caveat the main shareholders in all of them now are the same investment funds.
Anyway when the tobacco companies did own the food companies itâs known they used similar tactics they used for their tobacco products and wanted to make food as addictive as they possibly could at whatever cost to the comsumer health wise
Low carbs causes heart attacks, that's a new one!
Maybe people don't need to hear about anyone else's diet. Eat what you want and don't make it anyone else's business đ¤ˇââď¸
He didn't. They stuck their nose in.Â
Not sure how you came to that conclusion from what was posted...
Generally people who have opinions about things that do not affect them in the slightest are just bores with nothing interesting in their brains. You don't like my makeup? The shape of my body? The food I eat? GET A LIFE.
Ive only ever seen it the other way around - people who have strict or specific diets berating others for what they eat being âunhealthyâ or âunnaturalâ a vegetarian I knew once started crying at dinner because other people ordered meat dishes and she told us it was âincredibly cruelâ to eat meat in front of her
Also worth noting Iâve only ever seen vegans out protesting what others eat, never people on normal diets đ¤ˇ
Things that never happened.Â
whether or not you believe me doesnât change that it happened
Vegetarians generally eat eggs and cheese, so this sounds highly unusual, seeing as she's already contributing to the suffering of animals herself.
She was a weird girl, I only knew her cause she was going out with my friend. She didnât exactly have stable vibes
