Got a call from my district this morning before my shift. Was told someone went to HR and that it was about me and the nature of it requires me to be on paid leave for now… I said thank you for letting me know and that I’m not sure what could have happened because I’ve never had an issue with anyone before. He said he doesn’t know any details at all and he’s not too sure and that the nature of it was enough to put me on paid leave. He told me not to worry about work related tasks and to just wait and that I’ll be paid. This was at 8am I’m trying to think of anything that could have happened but really can’t wrap my head around it and no follow up from HR just the phone call from my boss. I’m from Toronto Canada for reference and I don’t know if I should reach out to HR or not I’m not concerned in the sense that I think I did something wrong but very confused as to why anyone would want to do this… I am a store manager
You wait until they call you and ask you to come in for an investigative interview.
If you've been put on admin leave, the allegation is likely serious, however you will have the chance to provide your perspective on the incident(s)
You will have your opportunity to explain your side of whatever the allegation is.
Were you at least provided confirmation as to whether it was someone internal, or external? If you are a store manager and are customer facing, then external patrons can file human rights complaints against you, and this can be done up to 12 months after the event.. In case this helps you consider what it may be
This is unsettling and unfortunate, but there's not much else you can do at the moment, since you do not even recall what the matter may be.
It could be a frivolous, unsubstantiated complaint, but you likely will be interviewed before any conclusions are drawn.
I was just told there was a complaint/case about me. But there were no details given at all my manager said he doesn’t even know and he would be the first to take disciplinary action if given the chance. HR didn’t contact me only he did and told me not to worry about work duties for now and that I’ll be paid and hopefully I can hear back Monday but he doesn’t know a turn around time.
I’m not sure what it may be… I really have no clue and I’m confident it will be resolved but not knowing the claim is what’s bothering me.
If your boss says to not worry and you’re getting paid I’d take that to mean they don’t think the complaint is real but given the nature of the complaint they have to put you on paid leave. If I were you’d I’d still want more information and to be able to address the compliant.
Give people time to do their jobs. HR doesn't know enough yet to contact you for any reason other than to say they don't know anything yet. The more time they spend talking to you about nothing, the longer it will take to resolve the situation.
Had the same thing happen to me earlier 2nd quarter this year. then found out a kid said i hit him. I did nothing of the sort. the kid had jist finished a bifurcation with the room monitor over the use of his phone. I wad asked to watch him while the monitor went to call his mother.
to make matters worse, this had been 'the behaviour room' and the kid was both a known gangster like brat who couldnt read and i believe looking for 'pay day'.
Round and round my own investigation went. Document after document i typed. I also learned about K Altman Law. They did an intake and I paid 350 for advice. They would not represent me but told me this happens all the time for about 3 decades now.
Then my sister in law and her twin sister who was a principal of a highschool advised having studied child development. this 'pay day' began out of Chicago as a way to get back at the trachers rather than learn feom the teachers. the admin take thw side of the kids always.
However ao many professionals have had this happen that we have started fighting back. Lawyers are now taking these cases. Peer reviewed literature is being written. You can at least go to pub med .giv and type in 'false allegations' in tge public school systems. I finally went over the head of the hr guy who was a complete idiot and getring away with firing teachers under these conditions for ever.
I met with the super intendent and informed her and legal staff that as written, wo proof as KAltman and my own formal state license knew that this was libal ans I wssnt going to put up with it. I cannot believe how naieve the school staff was and to learn this was now happening as the equivalent as the 'me too' movement 5+ years ago.
incidentally i knocked doors to get a guy on the school board who said this was indeed happening all the time and why he ran for it. The superintendant was indeed smarter tjan the rest of them thank god and destroyed the entire file and i am free to go on with my next career, but what a shame.
I am a really good teacher. I taught hundreds of classes. I was told to apply at the other districts. Should i , and i dont need to....I would never let my amrs leave my side....Hope this isnt what happened to you but if it did, please post again.
KAltman said the only way to stop this is to begin holding the kids accountable. Right now it is an ongoing institutionalized witch hunt. No one wins. The kids never learn how to read. the teacher becomes the students bitch. the country looses.
Coincidentally, what happened 30 years ago when this began? the federal department of education was formed. So before this time and institution was created, the students were disciplined and held accountable at leadership closer to home.
