Guessing you are American? Substitute flash light for torch. I once got some American aircraft techs very animated about using a torch to check for fuel leaks 😀
Ah, I use to have this problem on my old car. When it happens, you need to reach over to the passenger side where the light module is, and punch the dash. They'll usually flicker and come back after that
/uj I'm not actually joking here and I'm unsure why that would fix it. I fixed it permanently eventually though
There is a loose fuse actually, but when it acts up it causes all lights to stick on, and the headlights refuse to shut off. The lights going out was caused by a 4x6 low beam, which a previous owner installed upside down. It was also not sealed, and the lens fell off as soon as I went to pull it out.
The car is a 1985 Berlinetta Camaro, the one with all the weird electronics
Mine is battered and has weird little problems, but I love it with all my heart. Most of my electrical issues become very obvious once you look at the part causing it
I once had a problem exactly the same as that on my mk7 Ford Transit, it turned out to be the Bluetooth obd2 module I had plugged into the obd2 socket, as soon as I removed that it stopped. If you have one of these plugged in I would suggest removing it then try a night time drive to see if it still happens... If you don't have anything in your obd2 socket it could be any one of dozens of different things, including the fact it's a Merc lol!
Back in the '70s Lucas decided to diversify its productline and began manufacturing vacuum cleaners. It was the only product they offered which didn't suck.
What type of errors? Sorry for bothering you, I currently own a w211 2006 and have several as well 🥲 I wonder if you managed to fix some by yourself 👀🤞
Nah man, i drove it trough the winter and swapped it. I changed all the bulbs, but they went out after like a week or so. So basically i drove around with fog lights then one bulb went out for that as well. I think its poor engineering and cannot be fixed
Did you put another quarter into the dashboard for the lights feature? That's important.
This looks like an E Class - the quarter slot is to the left of the steering wheel. The slot on the right side is for the motel-bed quality vibrating seat feature.
That’s what happens when you travel faster than light. And by the way, it’s strange that no one complained about the speed — especially the Americans, for whom 140 km/h is a cosmic velocity.
Check the fuses to see if they have a good connection.
Did you give a lift to death? I think his aura has a disabling effect on things that maintain your health and safety such as car lights in the dead of night
You just drove through a patch of Dark Matter it's fine as long as you're not an astrologist. There, I've made the one psychic stem student on askshittymechanic furious. Twice.
No, and sometimes the car doesn't want you to see something horrible. Kind of like a protection of your feelings. In this case there was probably a possum that had been run over and it's guts were all splayed out. But you didn't have to see it cause the car helped you.
Or maybe it was a raccoon. Hard to tell with no headlights.
In all seriousness, is that not the ECU re-booting or going into some sort of safe-mode?
How the F is the circuit controlling that and the harness for the dashboard the same one the headlights and critical components are drawing from? Would it not fault back to the alternator, at the very least? I don't know Mercedes. That's scary.
Driving over 100mph knowing both driving fast at night won’t lead to anything good and filming…not to fucking mention knowing this rust bucket has this kind of issue. I guess some people really are brain fucking dead
Had that problem with my Volvo V50.
No car workshop had a clue on why.
Turned out to be glitches in the bulbs (recently bought at cheapish Swedish Biltema store). When replaced with Bosch bulbs the problem went away.
It's a modern energy savings method. You only need to be able to see every few seconds or so, so why not cut off the lights periodically to save watts?
It is. Just drive faster to charge the battery better.
And hold your phone so you can use the torch if needed.
I don’t know what a phone has to do with a torch but open flames INSIDE the car is lit!
Guessing you are American? Substitute flash light for torch. I once got some American aircraft techs very animated about using a torch to check for fuel leaks 😀
What would people who called a flashlight a torch call what we Americans call a torch?
A cutting torch.
Versus a seeing torch
Ok but what about like a torch someone would use to heat shrink or smoke
Lighter, zippo, or heat gun.
We are thinking of two different things.
Petrol.
What does people who call a torch petrol call what americans call petrol?
A mummy bone wrapped in ancient cloth that burns for eternity and never goes out.
Like a blow torch used for stripping paint or gas welding.
Headlight usage warning...you have used all the hours this month..upgrade to the silver package subscription
mercedes moment
Is Mercedes really like that? I thought that was more of a Tesla thing.
BMW started it with heated seats by subscription
"Aaah shit you didnt pay for the warm ass season pass? Too bad." Lame.
Yeah. Makes me „happy“ I cant afford new cars
If someone offered me a “warm ass season pass” I would have to buy😂
It is probably a loose connection in the rotary switch for the lights. How old is the car?
Is that 394440 miles (or km)on the odometer?
It looks like an E-Class W211
Definitely a subscription problem and needs to be sorted out asap
Big Light doesn't want you to know this one simple trick
😄😆😅😂🤣
Yes it is. If you feel tired you can switch off the lights.
Night night
It's like one of those nights modes you have on your phone
New Mercedes feature to prevent you from blinding oncoming drivers.
ah this is perfect. I always wanted this future. and all upcaming drivers will flash high beens as thank you
System is powered by ChatGPT so it may hallucinate oncoming drivers. That'll be $500 per month.
Mercedes feature. It’s a warning saying you’ve used your allotted time with lights this month, you just gotta upgrade your subscription
Your car needs to blink too.
And its only a problem if ypu start crashing
Yes and no, it can happen. What is not normal is to continue driving 190 km/h when it does.
I’m surprised nobody is saying anything about the absolute missile speed he’s doing. Maybe they don’t realize that’s like 120mph
German things
Also while holding your phone to take video
How else are you going to convince your mechanic that the lights keep turning off at 190 kp/h? /s
Ah, I use to have this problem on my old car. When it happens, you need to reach over to the passenger side where the light module is, and punch the dash. They'll usually flicker and come back after that
/uj I'm not actually joking here and I'm unsure why that would fix it. I fixed it permanently eventually though
Well, doing that at 110mph might fix ya…
/uj loose/ half burnt out fuse?
There is a loose fuse actually, but when it acts up it causes all lights to stick on, and the headlights refuse to shut off. The lights going out was caused by a 4x6 low beam, which a previous owner installed upside down. It was also not sealed, and the lens fell off as soon as I went to pull it out.
The car is a 1985 Berlinetta Camaro, the one with all the weird electronics
You know more than me lmao I'll just nod and agree that that one had weird electronics
I can’t say I miss my ‘83 Berlinetta V8 and it’s electrical issues from high school
Mine is battered and has weird little problems, but I love it with all my heart. Most of my electrical issues become very obvious once you look at the part causing it
In your case it is probably safer to drive without lights and let your eyes adjust. Instead of lights going out and not being able to see.
Isn’t that the Ford built by Mercedes?
It's quite possible, I suppose, although if it is it's an unusually reliable engine for Mercedes lol
Let me tell you bout the Sprinter van…
LUCAS- Prince Of Darkness!
Do you know why the Brits drink warm beer? Because LUCAS makes refrigerators too!!!!
Back in the '70s Lucas decided to diversify its productline and began manufacturing vacuum cleaners. It was the only product they offered which didn't suck.
Power saving mode those germans really are the best at what they do
So were not gunna talk about how you're going 120 mph and this is happening?!?!?!
this is how they indicate you are down on the headlight subscription
My bulbs went out all the time in w211, i had like 7 error messages scroll after starting the car.
That’s just your car blinking.
Only took 349440km to notice!
Did you put another quarter into the dashboard for the lights feature? That's important.
This looks like an E Class - the quarter slot is to the left of the steering wheel. The slot on the right side is for the motel-bed quality vibrating seat feature.
It's a Mercedes, it's normal
No different from blinking really, you lose your entire eye sight when you close your eyes.
Your car is tried, maybe let it down for a nap? 1 hour or 2 is ideal.
only if the police are in pursuit
That’s what happens when you travel faster than light. And by the way, it’s strange that no one complained about the speed — especially the Americans, for whom 140 km/h is a cosmic velocity.
Check the fuses to see if they have a good connection.
Peak Mercedes. That was probably the instant they renewed your headlight subscription, good thing the card went through quickly.
You didn’t lose them. They are still on the front of the car. All good.
Your car is sleepy
Your car needs to blink too sometimes
The car sneezed
Bro is lowkey going 200 kph while filming
Usually when a ufo passes by or when an alien is by the road, the lights go out so there’s nothing to report on these subreddits.
Bro is playing FNAF IRL
Looks like you're running low on headlight fluid. Normally it'd be a $300 fix but just for you I'll refill it for $250
Don't be a puss just use the force!
Keeps the lamps cool.
Subaru blinker stalk from around 2001 would want to have a nice talk about this subject.
Its normal to shit urself in this instance 🤣
Yes, very normal for a broken car
He's not exactly a normal man, but... he's got a bit of excitement.
Did you give a lift to death? I think his aura has a disabling effect on things that maintain your health and safety such as car lights in the dead of night
That's a rethorical question, right?
Just up your carrot intake and lose the lights all together
You just drove through a patch of Dark Matter it's fine as long as you're not an astrologist. There, I've made the one psychic stem student on askshittymechanic furious. Twice.
It’s just the wind making the candle flicker, don’t worry just keep driving and when the wind dies down you’ll be golden.
Yeah, dont touch the switch
no, clearly fckn not. Take it in for repair and stop driving at night until its fixed
Car is blinking. Imagine how hard it is to keep your eyes open in the wind.
It Warpspeed!!!
Na☠️
Kick the dash approx where the radio is.
It is your cars way of saying "might as well have the headlights off if you are going to drive this slow" your car yearns for more accelerator
It is your cars way of saying "might as well have the headlights off if you are going to drive this slow" your car yearns for more accelerator
Jesus that’s absolutely terrifying
You forgot to fill up the lights fluid.
Your blinker fluid is probably leaking and causing an electrical issue. This can be fixed by putting diesel in your car
It's just the wind blowing the candles
Usually, it is because either the headlight relay is overheating or the light switch is overheating.
If you have HID headlights this is normal.
They need to cool down. Totally normal
I don’t know
But that line of E’s are masterpieces. Genuinely love that line
Absolutely.. no
Power-saving feature. Just jiggle the gear shift so the car knows you’re still using it.
Is it normal to drive 200kmh? Not here
The headlights are getting too dry, so your car has to blink. Just add some headlight fluid.
Did you refill your headlight fluid?
You have a headlight fluid leak or someone dropped a couple of xanny bars in your gas tank.
It is not normal but it did happen to me once but my head lights did not come back on.
My cause was a blown fuse.
Yes, although you might want to slow down a little and avoid exceeding the speed of light next time
Its your car blinking. Your headlights were getting dried out from the speed. Youll be fine.
Damn man you going well below the speed limit speed up slow poke
Did you have to do 180 kph to test this?
That's a standard Mercedes feature, faulty wiring.
Oh my god that’s terrifying
Yes.
NEXT QUESTION.
Your car is signaling it's distress to others..
Yes, especially in new cars.
Yes, but it's ok since it is only for a little while.
I thought everyone knew car headlights have eyelids.
It may sound a little silly, but I want to emphasize how serious this question is. Are you fucking stupid?
Your headlights are flickering & you think the best thing to do in that moment is drive 100+mph while recording with your phone.
Second question: Wtf is wrong with you?
I had the same "feature" in two of my Citroen C5s. I had to turn off the dash lights, so it would keep the headlights on.
No, but the way to fix it is to record a video while you're driving.
Perfectly normal, no an issue at all.
Just time your blinks with it and you won't notice
It’s when you’re running low on blinker fluid
You wanna see something really scary?
Totally normal. That’s how they stop you from going faster.
Yes, nothing to see so they shut off to save energy. It's the environmental thinking
If you are ratching the speed of light, yes.
The fact you didn't immediately slow down is concerning
That is absolutely terrifying
Oh I recognize that dash….
…didn’t have that particular issue but certainly had many others, particularly electrical…
Normal? No. Typical of a Mercedes? Yeah.
It's a modern energy savings method. You only need to be able to see every few seconds or so, so why not cut off the lights periodically to save watts?
Guess youre going to have to track that gremlin down soon
I wouldn't worry about it. /s
Totally normal 😳
Yes!
It happened to me once. In my 89 Mazda 626. It never happened again. I had this car for a few years. It was a long time ago.
